Locals and vary a lot. Like if its in a college town, they tend to be ok. My local is a bunch of weebs that smell bad.
Don't be intimidated though, you will have fun, and you will get destroyed by somebody, possibly everybody. We all started somewhere.
Never been to a major so I can't say, but locals are definitely worth trying out.

samifaceon that subject (and im not disagreeing with you, it was not the fanciest hotel), i picked the la quinta for the price, but also with places like that they are more lax (usually) with noise. the fact that none of our parties were shut down is still astonishing to me. i don't know what the plan is for this year, but if we dont hear anything official i'll probably book there again.
I saw Blank piss on a wall and not get kicked out, that place was beyond lax.
