Hey guys, there's been some behind the scene discussions going on over the past few weeks with what to do with #tf2.pug.na, and I feel ready enough to announce some of the changes happening to #tf2.pug.na
Perhaps the biggest change in all of this is that we're going to be moving IRC networks, from Gamesurge to GeeksIRC. Some of you may already know about GeeksIRC as #tf2.mix.nahl along with at least one other major pug channel already/going to be making the move to their network.
You may ask why we're switching networks from the tried and tested Gamesurge to a newer network in GeeksIRC. There are several advantages from GeeksIRC which is beneficial to both the end-user as well as administrators.
For end users, the most beneficial change is the automatic IP cloaking for all users. What this means that your IP address will not be visible to other users, UNLESS they're either an channel administrator or GeeksIRC staff member. A nice feature that comes from this is the ability to set custom virtual host domains.
Another great feature of GeeksIRC is the fact that every single channel is provided with a WebIRC client. This makes it very easy for users to access #tf2.pug.na, especially for those who are new to IRC or new to pugs.
For myself as an channel operator, I get overall more finer controls of operators and user modes, as well as having 24/7 support from the people over at GeeksIRC.
Now with the impending switch-over to GeeksIRC (early next week is the goal), there are a couple things that will need to be sorted out once the change is complete.
Stats:
All stats that were recorded during our time at Gamesurge will be carried over into the new network. However, a few things may need to be done on the user's end to make sure that their current stats are transfered over properly. When you register on GeeksIRC, if you want the least amount of trouble with migration, simply use the same AuthServ name that you had on Gamesurge as your NickServ name on GeeksIRC.
If you wish to use or accidentally used a different NickServ name on GeeksIRC, please contact me so I can manually change it in the database.
Restrictions:
All current restrictions will be transfered over between networks. If you're restricted on Gamesurge currently, you'll also be restricted on GeeksIRC for the remainder of your restriction duration.
Bans:
All current channel bans will NOT be transfered over between networks. HOWEVER, do not expect this to last long during the migration period after the move.
Admins:
Certain ACTIVE admins will retain their Operator status on the new networks. For those who are currently inactive, you will have to reapply. With this being said, we will be looking to add on additional admins once everything is settled with the migration.
Everything else will function the same as normal, and probably better than before once we're fully on the GeeksIRC network.
