#90 War Of The Web -Place your votes in TF2 General Discussion
Leader_Of_LightWe might have some time and schedule issues; when is generally the best time for hosting an international tournament?

http://www.worldtimezone.com/

While I understand that's international but having US people play that early is guaranteed that you're only going to have younger kids and those that don't work available to play. While if you have Euros play at 11-12ish, they would still be able to play. They maybe tired the next day, they would still have an option to decide if it's worth it while US cannot leave work early to play a game,

Leader_Of_LightGood news everyone! I found someone to host the tournament so it won't be a terrible experience. Also, the tournament is planned to start next week.
TaggerungIs there even an official thread or something for this?
Forgive me if I missed it

Actually, the official thread is the one on SPUF, which is the place where I first presented the idea and where I met the man who will be hosting it.
shredderI'll stream and cast it if no one else will. Hit me up with the details (when/where/IP) and I'll be there. Mystery caster TBD??Great, the tourney will probably be some time next week and my pal has to provision the server first so I can't tell you the IP just yet. Also, do people want to practice or something first? And do we have to provide a server for practicing?

Edit: Game is set to be next friday 11 am PDT and a second at 2 pm PDT. If they can get a team, Tf TV is going against iOgaming. If not, then they're versing the champion of the SPUF and Gamefaqs matches.

Are you sure that's the best time? I mean most people are still working on Friday at that time, so both having players and spectators could become a real issue

Having a family limits the amount of time I can play. But, family > tf2 :)

(Most days)

Kuza! We aren't the oldest anymore! Rejoice!

But no seriously, good for you man. As I posted before, I'm 31. While that's an unusual age for a gamer, it won't be for long. esports is still relatively young, and I got started with the original team fortress mod when I was a teenager, when esports was literally JUST starting to become a thing. Most of the people posting in this thread will still be playing games when they reach our ages too.

I think maybe the older generation is playing more casual and the younger crowd more competitive now and moreso in the future. Let's be honest, when you're 14-20ish, free time in generally in excess.

TF.TV must use x-box controllers, or whatever weird thing you want like trackballs, touchpads, etc

#9 Need Some More Coaches for Newbie Mixes! in TF2 General Discussion
prestonGeknaiirHaving two coaches per team will only make it worse since each player has their differing views on how to play video games. Also why would you have one less newbie play?
I disagree, if the coaches know how to play the game, they should have similar views on the basics of 6s.

Also, having one less newbie play means that player is more likely to be playing optimally (ie not out of position, supporting the team, not going for dumb plays). In most cases, a higher teacher-to-student ratio offers a better learning experience.

Put another way, what would be better, playing with 5 coaches or having to play with 5 other newbies? I would argue playing with experienced players would teach more things like how teammates -should- react in certain situations.

edit: I only recommend multiple coaches if there aren't enough newbies to fill up a mix

IRL then yes, when talking about newbie mixes, a lot of times you will just end up having half trolls mess around off classes and treating it like a low level pug.
Hell, there is a group of people that would alias to different names to act like they have never played just to troll new people.

#4 Need a quick "mentor" for a bit in Mentoring

As I said, I understand that a mentor can't help DM, or a slump, but that is why I am only asking someone to watch a single POV scrim playing live. If it's just that, then it's just a slump and no biggie. But who really knows, I've been out of this game for quite a bit (or at least taking it seriously) and there has been quite a bit of meta changes over the years, so it couldn't hurt.

#1 Need a quick "mentor" for a bit in Mentoring

I didn't want to bomb my friends list to bug everyone, so I figured I would put it here. The problem that I've been having the last week is that I have been unable to hit shit. It doesn't matter if it's in a scrim/match/pug and I don't believe I have changed any settings. I'm sure that it doesn't help that Metalworks wasn't something that was played in the past but it feels more than that.

Basically, I just need someone to watch a live POV scrim early in the week with me to see what is happening. Why live you say? I feel like when you correct bad behavior right when it happens it will stick more.

Also, I know that DM'ing more would help DM but I am playing the same amount that I used to and it just seemed to go from OK to utter shit. I am not in the position to be able to play more often anyways. The only thing that I can think of it that I changed pre-rendered frames from '3' to '1' but I would assume that less input lag would help, not make it worse.

Thanks

g monitor. I have a chance on buying it for a decent price. I am sick of using the Acer input lag 120hx monitor and was thinking about purchasing this as a replacement. The problem is that I haven't ever used, or even seen it being used, as a good gaming monitor.

#44 Help reporting art theft? in Off Topic

I am just wondering if this is a big deal to artists in the digital realm then why is no one using watermarks. I don't think I have put out one thing in the past 5 years of my career without watermarking the PDF. I work in politics so it's a little different with sensitive data but even if it's not, I still want my org to get the credit.

#26 Dolphin: Wii/Gamecube Emulator in Off Topic
the301stspartanThat makes no sense whatsoever. Also average wii games are around 4GB and I guess you would need more than 1 second to download them.

That's not really true, I used to, umm, backup Wii games all the time until they bricked it and if you remove (clean) the pointless "info" on most Wii games they will average 2-3 gb

#29 Which cell phone games do you guys play? in Off Topic

Simpsons is something that you will never see an end game, since everything takes real time. Like 24 hours to build any building, starts to get real boring after a month but yet I am still playing it.

Cut the rope series are pretty good, but some of the levels are quite hard (annoying since you know what to do but is hard with a small screen) using a phone.
