There are serious issues of communication and interpretation within Islamic faith. It's pointless to attack the validity of their association with Islam without also understanding these issues. Unfortunately, I'm of the opinion that many of these issues much be worked out from within Islam, which as it stands is far from becoming reality. Regardless though, whether they are real muslims or not is a pointless discussion, since with whatever answer we come to, glorifying or villifying a population of a billion because of it is wrong.
