#8 Alias based lastinv in Customization
Arkanoid0When you switch weapons using one of the @slot# commands, it sets the weapon you came from to "lastslot". You can change the first command in @slot1 from "slot1" to an alias that does other things like toggle view models, change crosshair, etc. on a weapon by weapon basis, something you can't do with the "lastinv" command.

Sorry for the possibly stupid question but how is that any different than the broesel crosshair switcher?

MR_SLINI thought Machinima pays higher CPM than adsense?

Machinima never pays higher than adsense, they're getting a cut from what you make in exchange for some security (contracted stable CPM, exclusive ads, referrals, ads on related channels, etc). Networks wouldnt exist if they didn't make a profit.

Specially machinima, seems to be the most hated network of all, with payouts half the CPM of google directly and in some cases ridiculous clauses like lifetime contracts and network exclusivity clauses.

SalamancerThanks so much for the helpful post. I've emailed Machinima already, looking to end the contract.

I may experiment with more vids again, including shoutcasts. I can't make any promises about coming back out of retirement because I've applied to a new job that will be far more stressful... but I want to see just how well I can really do. If the money is good enough, it will entice me to keep churning out good content. And yes, in a sense it's about the money. I won't go back to giving up a sizeable chunk of my social life and travel plans for low pay, as much as I do love TF2.

Edit: If it's just Adsense alone, then yeah, not worth it at all. The big bucks come from the video ads and other auctioned content, so unless I can hold onto those, I'll have to keep the Machinima thing and stay hidden in retirement land.

Don't take my word as gospel, I am talking from a couple of years experience I had in internet marketing but specifically youtube marketing was never my focus. Feel free to search around, but the perception I get from the experience I have and the things I have read is that networks have a much lower payout and very often screw the content producers. Especially machinima.

Here are some links I have come across online that might be of use to you: Link 1, Link 2, Link 3, etc, etc...

Also what was the case before is that networks were mainly used by gaming content channels due to these networks being able to handle the channels copyright claims and also because many countries or people couldn't get easily partnered with youtube, for example if you had 200k subs but you lived in a non partner supported country you had to partner through a network. Nowadays thats less and less the case, youtube partner program has extended a lot and the application process to be a partner is much easier.

SalamancerOK wait hold up. Valve is fine with anyone monetizing videos on YouTube.

Does this mean I don't actually have to get paid through the Machinima network, and could just upload vids on my own? That would like quadruple or quintuple my CPM... in fact, it would make TF2 video production an almost-viable job.

Someone explain to me why I'm wrong and I still have to use a network like TGS or Machinima please.

I wasnt even aware you were partnered through the machinima network but from my understanding and from the experience I have with google advertising and other google products, all they do is simply link a adsense account to the content creator, you are free to monetize content directly without being associated with any network.

Valve is one of the few companies (others being mojang with minecraft for example) which are totally fine and even encourage people to produce content from their games and monetize it.

So yeah, I think what you said was absolutely right. You could possibly make a living out of it (not with your current subscriber count) but if you increased your fan base that would be feasible. I know people dont like to disclose it too much about this style of life but I believe people like star and even with a smaller subscriber base are able to make a decent living out of this.

I have never been partnered with machinima or any type of network but from my knowledge I have never heard of any advantage of being associated with a network like machinima, all I have heard from them were about very restrictive and slave-like contracts with ridiculous clauses and huge margins for them (networks).

SalamancerYouTube has also been allowing game companies to trawl the site with bots looking for their game content. http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/1sm26m/the_death_of_the_lp_gamers_will_no_longer_make/

I got one of these notices on my SimCity video, which is cool because it was a worthless shitty video anyway. Luckily my TF2 vids haven't been touched, I assume because Valve doesn't hire massive, seething piles of human foreskin for marketing and legal departments, but EA is of course as evil as ever.

#45 yo etf2l fucking sucks. in TF2 General Discussion
enlaneKanecowithout even hearing their side is the best thing to do in this case.Threatening to ban or punish teams for forfeiting when they can't play

What has one argument to do with the other? I mentioned we didnt hear their official response, which is true, even if they did do that we still didn't hear the official response.

Also, there are 20+ volunteers on etf2l staff, as far as I know what we saw posted here could well have been an off the record unnoficial response from an admin on a bad day, lets show a bit of respect for the 20+ people donating their time to our scene and not bash a whole league because of 1 person.

Clearly extrapolating a couple of bad administrative decisions to a whole league and the entire team of admins without even hearing their side is the best thing to do in this case.

#11 TF2 Lobby- Can anyone access it in Off Topic
VortexI really like tf2center as a substitute for tf2lobby, but I think people are overstating it as being "so much better."

The community is ultimately the same as the tf2lobby community which means the same amount of 5-0 rolls, the same amount of people who quit mid lobby, and the same amount of people who offclass the entire duration.

I'd say of my past 5 tf2center games, 3 of them were 5-0 stomps and 2 of them were rcon quit within the first 5 minutes. That being said, I do like the layout of the site and the mumble integration.

hmm no sorry, its premise is entirely different, just the fact that you actually use comms. And mumble integration.

Its not the same as tf2lobby even if the community is the same

#5 Bazzar.tf Crystal Matrices in Off Topic
downpourdo the people at bazaar.tf have a lot of time on their hands or do these games have a purpose

The objective is very obvious here, promote the use of bazaar and hopefully steal some users from tf2outpost which is the huge trading website by default.

To be honest tf2outpost is becoming worse and worse, Im really glad these guys are doing an effort to create something better for the community and they are really interested in it. Also afaik the owner of bazaar plays comp so he will always have my preference over outpost. I really hope more people start shifting towards this site. So much better, great usability and has much more features such as auctions, buy now trades, etc etc...

PS: The solution is here

#4 Time Diffrence Clocks in Site Discussion

The event thing in the site does convert events to your timezone but its still so confusing (ie: this weekend I told slin the time of our bball cup and amidst my terrible timezone knowledge and some confusion on his side the event was set 2 hours later than when it actually started.

It would be nice to have something with all the standard timezones for the different scenes. Or a simple forum post for future consult would do as well.

#14 is steam down? in Off Topic

The weirdest thing happened to me...

I was playing a cs go MM, on t side, 1v1 with 20 secs left, sneaked with my awp on the guy behind him on spawn and just when I was aimed for his head the whole server lagged the fuck out, next thing I know I saw 4-5 corpses of me fall besides me and I was still alive, . We lost the round to the timer :(

Damn you steam!

eeeKanecoIf you use youtube feather beta http://www.youtube.com/feather_beta you can load almost anything instantly, but it doesn't display comments on videos, google really knows how to fuck their users overhow is not seeing comments a downside?

THere are various reasons you might want to read the comments, for example someone who actually manages a youtube channel would prefer to view the comments on their own videos, and some people always like to see the comments on videos they watch.

As horrible as the youtube comment system is, small niche channel comments are usually decent.

I have had the same problem for months, like a video loads in chunks and when I select an already loaded chunk it will start buffering again and never start, its the worst video player ever, guess its since they implemented DASH.
