_KermitI think I said in the last thread about this but I'll say it again, the bitrate on youtube will still be massively lower on videos than a download you'd be given with the video. Don't get me wrong for most things it'll be great, but the downloads will still be the better option quality-wise.
Its not the bitrate. Their official recommendations for 1080p videos with High quality is around 50Mbps bitrate. I have been testing it for months and it still distorts and lowers video quality even at the highest bitrate they recommend for each resolution.
Its their encoder which is shit, I can compare any local file I have with the videos I uploaded on youtube and I can see an immediate difference both in quality and smoothness of the video.
Its great that they're adding 60fps support, but I wish they would give more attention to their shitty encoder.
Here in Portugal there is really no difference between CS and Computer Engineering, actually 90% of the degrees use the engineering denomination, in a couple universities they call it computer science but its basically the same thing as computer engineering.
I know the CS denomination is much more prevalent in the US but here is the other way around.
mikejsedit: don't take software engineering unless you already self harm
I think this is wrong. At least around here, they teach you from the ground up, starting from the very basic in any new class. You're not expected to know how to code already, but it certainly helps if you do.
tf2pickup.net is your go-to place for pickups in europe.
NoCourtesyI graduated and I’m on my gap year. I still don't really know what I want to study, but I’m leaning more towards computer science. I have a couple questions
-How open is a computer science major? Because I’m not too sure what i want to specialize in specifically (games, security, software design, etc...). Do you do a three/four year course, and then decide what you want to study or do you have to know from the start?
-I graduated with the IB, but I stupidly chose Math Studies. Is that going to be a problem when entering a university?
-How work intensive are the studies? Is it like medicine where you have to work 10 hours a day for two years straight, or do you have some spare time?
-To anyone who was unsatisfied with their choice of studying CS, why is that?
-How is class time organized? Is there a scheduled math class, that specifically focuses on the math aspects of CS, other classes that deal with a particular coding language etc... or is it all tied into one thing?
Thanks
I think it should vary a great deal between countries, well maybe not so much in europe if your univ adopted the bologna process, then its a bit more standard.
If its anything like mine, the first 3 years are very broad in terms of subjects but even if you only finish your bologna degree you're qualified to enter the work market already, even without a major. Majors are pretty broad I think, theres always those you mentioned then there stuff like Artificial Intelligence, Distributed Systems, Computer Science itself is a major, more linked to algorithms and mathematics.
Math studies is gonna help you with all the math classes I think, nothing wrong with that.
Workload is pretty huge, not gonna lie, between all the programming projects, weekly labs and assignments/tests. I am still adapting after being out for 2-3 years. But if you have discipline I think It can be done and still have time for other stuff.
I am mostly unsatisfied with the entry years because you have a lot of physics and mathematic classes that I never expected to be this indepth, but once you get through it I think you're pretty much over the hard part.
Obviously this varies between places but I only have classes in the morning, until like 1-2 pm. But sometimes I start at 8 am which is a bitch to wake up.
Hey jay, I think the approach you're taking with these edits is really creative, when I was grading the tf2connexion contest I really loved your video, your smooths are really good (great angles) and the transitions between them as well, I just think you need to work maybe on the colours a bit and the overall flow of the video.
Sometimes it feels like you're breaking a bit the flow just to add an extra scene or element and that might not work that well.
I don't think it deserves the hate its getting. Specially that 1st SFM smooth was really quality
I'm doing a computer science degree.
I could be finishing my major by now since I entered uni 4 years ago, but the transition from highschool to uni was pretty shocking to me due to the whole atmosphere and general workload so I failed miseraby the first year, , despite having a really good overall grade coming from highschool. So I just stopped and was working for a couple of years. Came back this year with a bit more motivation.
Point is, if its anything like in my country beware of the shock coming from high school and be prepared for a crazy workload
Also, I hate calculus
Looking forward to my 30 fps drop
AlmieHaha ok, when it happens twice in a row, it's not funny anymore. With all due respect to Tooni, while his movie was enjoyable, he did make some beginner mistakes - plus there were quite a few better entries in the contest.
Now, if there is another contest next year, I would recommend having more than 1 moviemaker in the judges, in fact, the judges should ONLY be moviemakers, or it ends up like this. Then again, who knows how many entries you will get next year, since many editors probably won't feel like entering...
w/e #rantover, congrats to salade au thon and grid
Now you really rustled my jimmies, am I not an (at least somewhat decent) editor?
Also its really pointless to argue with the results if you don't for which aspects each movie was graded. Fun fact: My note was the highest by far between all judges for Googler's movie. And while I don't agree with the rankings necessarily, and my top3 was different, I'm just a member of the judge panel, and it's a group decision so my opinion has as much leverage as any of the other judges.
Now throwing a tantrum over this and blaming the judges and saying no one is gonna enter next year is certainly not the best solution. Afaik tf2c is one of the few organizations that still supports moviemakers in the scene so just be mature and don't act like a spoiled kid.
I just finished grading all the movies this week.
Let me just say it was a long session but really fun to see so many different edits and amazing frags.
While there are some really underwhelming entries there are also a lot of really cool movies and excellent frags in the contest. Good luck to all and may the best one win :)

ForbesAccording to the Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Germany has the second highest income tax burden of all OECD’s 34 countries. Of course this is not surprising considering Germany is the father of “Sozialstaat” or in English “Social State” founded in 1870 under Then Chancellor Bismarck’s reforms.
Government cannot make anything "cheaper", it just hides costs by socializing them across a populace.
Government does have the power and influence to make things cheaper/less costly. But even then I fail to see how socializing costs is bad?
Better to have a strong safety net than no net at all. Germany is pretty good at that.
