#17 Does anyone notice how much smoother it feels? in TF2 General Discussion

The game runs much smoother for me, but I'm still on DX8. Everything looks anti-aliased too, even though I have all AA settings disabled.

#17 Advice on headphones? in Hardware
lemon_pulpSennheiser HD 598 have an amazing sound stage and overall comfort. Not suitable if you dislike people hearing what you can. I only use them indoors so that doesn't concern me. (my current)

I recently had to make the choice between Sennheiser HD598 (open), Beyerdynamic DT990 (open, 250 Ohm) and DT770 (closed, 80 Ohm). I previously owned a pair of Sennheiser cans, I ruled the HD598s out, as I'm not a fan of Sennheiser's plastic build and general bulkiness. Both DT770s and DT990s feel sturdier to me and man, those velour pads! So comfortable!
Finally went with the DT990s because of the soundstage and less boomy and more natural sound compared to the DT770s, and the coiled cable. I don't really need closed headphones, since I only use mine at home anyway.
All three pairs are amazing, it all comes down to personal preference to be honest.

Though the prices probably exceed OP's budget, especially in Australia. Sennheiser HD558 are a good and cheaper alternative to the 598s (they're almost the same). ATH-M50s are also great but since they're on-ear, I wouldn't choose them if you plan longer sessions. Don't underestimate comfort.
It may be obvious, but don't pick high-impedance headphones if you don't have an amp to drive them.

Your best bet is to find an audio store and try different pairs yourself and maybe ask for advice there. You could also order some online, keep the headphones you like and return the others, you'll have to pay extra for the shipping though.

#3 ABS vs PBT keys (keyboard) in Hardware

The PBT keycaps on Poker 2 are top quality, personally I'd choose them over ABS with backlight.
PBT usually have a slightly rougher texture and they don't really get shiny/smooth like ABS (not as fast at least). As far as I know, PBT keycaps are thicker than ABS on Poker 2.

If you're willing to spend more, you can get both PBT and backlight on Massdrop (could be a problem if you want DE layout though):
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/kbc-poker-2
Of course the backlights won't shine through PBT keycaps as they would through ABS but it'll still look amazing.

Ask yourself if you really need the backlight and if yes, just order that version - you can always get a set of PBT keycaps later.

#24 blizzcon in Other Games

It's seems to be more similar to SMNC than to TF2. Knowing Blizzard, it will have lots of interesting mechanics. The game looks more about clever use of those rather than pure aim or movement.

I'm looking forward to playing it.

#16 Windows 8.1 and TF2 / Steam in Q/A Help

I've only experienced slight stuttering/refresh rate problems with dual monitors (144Hz + 60Hz) in windowed mode. Full screen works fine.

#25 ASUS VG248QE vs Benq XL2411Z in Hardware

The panels are very similar (if not the same), so it's good to also consider the casing. Do you prefer beautiful matte (BenQ) or disgusting, shiny, fingerprint-attracting plastic (ASUS)? Obviously it's just my taste, to each his own.

#8 75 hz vs 60hz in Hardware

http://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU

I used this tool to run my old LG monitor at 70Hz@1080p without artifacts. Some monitors will allow more, some less.

AT YOUR OWN RISK, find the highest stable value and see how it works. The difference between 60Hz and 70Hz isn't huge, but it's noticeable.

#104 Twitch now scanning VODs for copyrighted content in Off Topic
  1. Buy a website for $1,000,000,000 (ONE BILLION DOLLARS).
  2. Ruin it with copyright laws.

What a fucking brilliant idea, why not make Google+ mandatory to "improve user experience"?

Too bad it's the "YouTube issue", they got the huge user base and it's too late to make people switch to an alternative.

#4 Better Colors for 144hz Monitor in Q/A Help

http://pcmonitors.info/reviews/benq-xl2420z/

Picture Mode= Standard
Brightness= 37 (TS1) / 100 (TS2A and TS2B) – according to preferences and lighting
Contrast= 50
Gamma= 5
Blur Reduction= Off (TS1) / On (TS2A and TS2B)
Color Temperature= User Mode
Red= 96 (TS1) / 95 (TS2A and TS2B)
Green= 96 (TS1) / 92 (TS2A and TS2B)
Blue= 100 (TS1, TS2A and TS2B)

I used this website's suggestion for my XL2411T and the colors are quite good for a TN panel.

#45 The Razer mousewheel problem. in Hardware
downpourbuy a g400
cant really fix bad build quality

What?! I'm on a G400s (had a G400 before) and it has one of the worst wheels I've used. Other than that it's a great mouse, but Logitech could really do something to improve it.

#309 The 120Hz Monitor Thread in Hardware
ulmyxxLexwpminnowsi picked up the vg248qe earlier this month for like £270

which is like twice the america price but definitely worth it after you tweak the colours slightly

Whenever I look at electronics prices in the USA I feel like I'm getting robbed here in EU.

Sales taxes are higher in eu

Exactly what I'm talking about.

#35 New pc is laggy in Hardware

When you spend €300 on a CPU, get a decent cooler as well. The additional €30-50 isn't much compared to the price of your PC. You'll have much better temperatures and eventual overclocking possibility.

You're lucky that your CPU is still working.
