#30 TF.TV WHIPS, what do you drive? in Off Topic

http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/4/558/1009/38893004011_medium.jpg

Not my actual photo because I don't care enough to photograph my actual car - same thing though - 1996 caddy in red :D paid 3.3k (in cash) for it.

Nicest ride I've ever had. Drives itself practically, surprising amount of power, and I adore heated seats.

#8 Cherry mx red vs blue in Hardware

if it doesn't ghost it's golden, no sense paying an arm and a leg for any more has been my experience lol. I use blues, but they're pretty loud - if i lived in a dorm I'd be annoyed.

I bought a PC build on new egg because fuck it yolo

Good bye 780$ - but at least the kiddo will play tf2 on his own computer and not anxiously stare at me when i try to do homework. I also set him up with his own steam account so he won't have to sully mine by playing mge.

#3 LF Medic mentor in Mentoring

I could at least provide advice, I can prolly handle demoreviews but I also have quite a few videos about medic play on my youtube that could prove useful if you've not seen them already.

It should provide you with basically all the basics - I know you've been playing for a while so you should be able to do the rest yourself :D lol.

A big part of medic is how your team plays and plays around you. There comes a point when there's really not anything more you can do personally beyond gaining the experience to read situations properly and make proper snap decisions lol.

#253 ESEA and CEVO in TF2 General Discussion

The obvious best choice in all of this, is for the scene to remain largely with ESEA for at least one more season. The sky will not fall, they will not steal all your personal information, lpkane will only shit on you if you bother him.

While that is occurring (which I imagine *will* be the case at least for the upper divisions of TF2) CEVO will have its first real new season. I don't know when they intend to open registration, but that first season should be testing the water there - since right now I have no evidence that they can even run a league with any sizable amount of teams. I imagine several teams will play in both leagues - which will ultimately be a great thing for TF2. I'm guessing they'll start before ESEA opens registration in late January.

If that CEVO season is a disaster (like their last "open" season and the vanilla tournament), we won't really have much choice than continue to split between the two leagues or return to ESEA or look into other avenues. If CEVO starts early enough we may know before registration for ESEA even closes.

UGC would be willing to accommodate, but a large transition would take much longer than late January - an all volunteer force operates more slowly.

It's the responsible choice to straddle the two leagues, for one it provides continuity, and it gives us a plan B if CEVO ends up to be sub-par.

I'm not trying to personally attack anybody working on or with CEVO, I just have my doubts about a league that has very little TF2 being played in it having the ability to cope with a massive influx of new players.

When I started adminning for UGC we had 40 teams. I ran things by myself. It was fun, it was easy. 20 matches a week, scheduling was ezpz.

The next season I had 130 teams. I couldn't cope at all, crap was delayed, disputes sat on the table for a while, scheduling took hours to do. My poor spread sheet was over taxed so teams ended up having wonky schedules. We did end up recruiting some help for me, but one of them ended up being questionable and was let go, causing me to take on a larger work load as we looked for new people. I eventually burnt out and had to step back, I couldn't handle it anymore.

Luckily we'd secured 2 guys willing and able to do the work, and drew some of the HL admins into the pool to help out when things get hot, and forn massively reworked the admin side of the site to streamline things and make work 100% easier. It took time.

It's irresponsible to just assume CEVO will cope perfectly with us. If they do manage to cope and people prefer them, then we can talk about moving the whole thing over there. But to talk about packing up entirely and moving into unknown waters is silly and irresponsible, particularly given that nothing ESEA has done has directly affected any of us (unless you ran the client in the off season) - unless your willing to go with NJ's unsubstantiated claims.

#30 Does anyone understand racial pride? in Off Topic

But I could tell you how much better a hamburger made with beef from the butcher shop is as opposed to beef from just about any other source - given you know how to make hamburgers. I can't stress enough how different fresh meat is from processed or packaged meats.

#26 Does anyone understand racial pride? in Off Topic

Well also... There was no Axis in world war one :/ The word you're looking for is Central Powers. And yes, the sinking of the Lusitania and the Zimmerman telegraph were useful political tools for justifying America's entry into ww1, but not the major deciding factor. German desperation leading into unrestricted submarine warfare, and impending Russian collapse (and intense lobbying from France and the UK) were what really did it in, although Wilson and co., had been searching for reasons to join in the war for some time, particularly because it looked pretty clearly like Germany would be unable to win (always good to join a war when it's almost over) and that the victors would have a major stake in deciding the future of world geo-politics (a handy thing to have as well).

#27 2 political parties, essentially in Off Topic

A few things that will pertain to the OP:

Whenever you say, it is my opinion that, I believe that, they say that, from what I've observed, etc, it makes me die inside. Don't ever write like that - it only serves to add useless crap to a text - you're either stating what you believe to be are facts (so you needn't preface it with, in my opinion, etc) or you're wasting my time. It does not demonstrate collegiate level writing skills. You can thank me later for saving you from getting your papers panned.

American politics are a joke, but it's more to do with *how* elections are executed in this country (by district, as individual candidates) than some kind of collective psychosis. It's very difficult to run as a non-major Party candidate because of the difficulties in acquiring funding and putting out your platform and message. Whereas, the two major parties are known quantities to most people, so it's easier to simply declare yourself in favor of the GOP or Democrats, rather than research any third party which will, generally, be struggling to get its message out, along with having difficulty participating in governmental and electoral functions.

It's also not a revolutionary idea that our society, which quantitatively presents itself to us as freedom, is built upon profound qualitative non-freedom. For example, in order to even have a reasonable conversation with a stranger we have to behave according to certain norms or we'll just freak each other out, hence freedom resting upon unfreedom.

You also present an argument about rights not being inalienable. Sure, I'll give you that periodically in US history, peoples' inalienable rights have been violated. I don't think there's a single kid that grows up in this nation that hasn't heard of slavery, Jim Crow, the genocide of Native Americans, the slaughter of the "christianized" tribes, or the Japanese Internment camps. That's not new or interesting information you present here - what I'd be interesting in hearing is why you believe this is allowed to occur and what are the motivations behind such alienations of supposedly inalienable rights. But you don't, and that makes me sad and also makes your post rather pointless and incoherent.

I'm happy to discuss complicated ideas on forums - but at least present me with an argument and not a list of grievances laden with anecdotes and appalling writing.

Ps. Sorry if I come off as being kinda harsh, I'm only trying to be helpful.

Freshman Dorm Debate night ended up with me starting a little Socialists group :/

Also best flavor: Cookies and Cream - you just can't beat knock-off oreos in ice cream.

#6 ESEA and CEVO in TF2 General Discussion

Well CEVO had other issues besides just the prize pot - mainly wide allegations of admin corruption as well.

I would also be quite tentative about a switch to CEVO given how poorly everything they did prior to the reboot was handled.

I will never forget having a playoff match scheduled for December 26th and not being able to change the date. I will likewise never forget the Vanilla tournament that suddenly morphed itself into a season after several extensions beyond the start date.

It's also time to give up on touting the "malware" nature of the client, beyond the bitcoin miner, because frankly there's no evidence that anything of the sort (beyond the bitcoin miner and standard AC practices) existed. If you want to take a stand against ESEA take a stand against the incompetence that allowed the bitcoin miner to go into the client - because there isn't real evidence that any other activity has ever gone on.

Switching to any league will be a *long* road. CEVO and UGC can promise all sorts of things for example, but it would take a long time to get to where we would want to go as a community.

I also don't understand why people who are upset with ESEA aren't more actively voicing their opinions to the people at ESEA who aren't idiots. Lange's letter to Torbull is probably the best thing that's been done so far. Hell, if I were more concerned I'd bother Killing about it at the very least.
