Maybe it's because I'm bad with my money or I already have brain damage since I play HL medic but paying $1.4 (cad) a month is nothing at all. I wouldn't mind paying that to not deal with immature people in lobbies since from my experience, it's the worst part about it.

So the mixes were pretty successful overall. I am hoping to do them every Saturday and will definitely need a lot of coaches since I expect the amount of players to double or more once I advertise in more places.
If you're interested in coaching, just hop into the mumble anytime starting at 9pm EST, go into the coaches channel and the admins will direct you from there. I would prefer if coaches had at least gold experience since they have a deeper understanding of how the game should be played and what works and doesn't.
I had the same problem, I had to restart my computer to fix it.
I talked to grizz after and it seems stabby had a bigger role than I thought in all of the miscommunications that happened. He wasn't the only one to blame of course and neither was grizz. I hope grizz still considers organizing future events and I'm willing to help him anyway he needs.
Cross-posting with UGC forums.
I guess my team not knowing the rule change for payload until after it affected us was more stabby's fault, but changing a rule literally before the tournament starts is not a good idea. Why not play 2 halves of payload? It is known that the defensive team usually has a small advantage and a half is usually about 15mins, so double that is just as much as the typical 5cp map and makes it fairer. Also, as far as I know there were no clear rules about ringers and in general, the rules should've been posted before the event on this thread, instead of me having to ask brick about everything. It seemed like if they were just made on the fly and not "professional" at all. This includes the map picking, ringers and expected play time.
I also get that you needed to have something on the stream because of the viewers, but you can't blame us and messaging stabby every 5s about getting info does not help. Two of the servers we tried playing on were being DOS attacked (that's what I've been told, I'm no networking expert) and it was unplayable. The server basically gave everyone 10fps or less. We needed to have 18 people in the server when we finally settled on using Noble's server since he said he could stop the attacks but first everyone needed to be in. Just because of how long all of this took we needed to get another demo ringer and of course we would try to get the best we can (we asked Xan before b4nny but he was unavailable) but since there were no clear rules about ringers neither team was sure what to do. Jackster's team soldier also had to go to do 6s stuff so we had to wait for them to get a ringer as well. The 30 minutes or so all of this took grizz kept insisting we gave him stv info when we had told him multiple times we had to wait in order to not get attacked.
In the future if something like this is organized and you feel like it's just overwhelming, there's no reason not to ask for help. I'm sure people would've volunteered to make sure everything goes smoothly since this sort of event is good for the community and gives more relatively unknown players a chance to shine. GO FEINT.
Worst organized event I've experienced yet. Would not sign up for another tournament organized by grizz.
retrogradesounds good. will probably take part in a mix or two once finals are done, looking forward to helping out some new players even if i cant coach. did you post this on r/tf2 as well as r/truetf2? there may be more people there looking to start out in competitive.
I have posted in r/truetf2 and UGC forums but I don't want to post in r/tf2 just yet as that would most likely bring way more players than I can handle this first time doing it, I want to get familiarized with the system and everything. For the second newbie mix and on I will certainly post there as well though since the whole point is to introduce new players to competitive including the ones who have just not heard about it or visit competitive-related forums.
retrogradegreat idea! i would love to know what the threshold for coaching is, but even if i don't make the cut for coaching i would love to take part as a player.
For this first time I've personally asked high plat players to help coach since I wanna give people the best possible experience. For the following events however, I'm thinking of having any gold+ player be able to coach and see if we can get enough coaches from that pool of players, if not I'll open it up for silver as well.

If you already know the basics of TF2 and want to sharpen your skills and make the jump to competitive play, come join us Saturday night for Newbie Mixes and learn how to play competitive 9v9 Highlander (one of each class) games with the help of experienced players! For this special first time, I've personally asked plat players to help coach so be sure to take advantage if you're interested.

We will start at around 9pm EST this Saturday May 23rd. To start playing, join the mumble server with the instructions provided below and then the channel with the name of the class you wish to play along with the experience you have. If you're confused about this, don't worry, there will be more specific instructions once you join the mumble server.

Since this is the first time we organize this, we hope it will be somewhat small to get everyone familiarized with the system (including the people helping out). We're gonna have about two TF2 servers available to start with (meaning 36 players at a time, 4 coaches) but we can get a couple more if they're needed.
Now for the thanks part. Thanks to Mamboulay for helping me organize this, KevinIsPwn for answering all my questions and helping me with the setup. A big thanks to tragicservers for providing the mumble and TF2 servers. Thanks to all the coaches and also thanks to everyone who read this and is interested in playing.
There's more specific stuff directed towards new players on the reddit thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/truetf2/comments/36b9wy/new_highlander_newbie_mixes_this_saturday_may/
The sooner I buy the ticket the cheaper it is please help a broke college student out
Orb of Destruction ('Basic Attack): Zenyatta fires his orbs seperately or can channel for a few seconds to rapid-fire multiple at once.
Orb of Harmony: Zenyatta places an orb over an ally. So long as Zenyatta remains alive the orb slowly restores health to the ally. Zenyatta can only give one orb per spawn.
Orb of Discord: Zenyatta places an orb over an opponent. So long as Zenyatta remains alive the orb amplifies the amount of damage they receive. Zenyatta can place only one orb per spawn.
Transcendence (Ultimate Ability): Zenyatta enters the state of transcendence for a short period of time. While transcendent, Zenyatta cannot use abilities or attack, but is immune to damage and automatically restores his health and that of nearby allies.
Fov hurts my brain and the HUD makes it hard to easily recognize things with peripheral vision.
Spamfest will carry. But will it be enough.
