#63 ESEA S15 Unlocks in TF2 General Discussion

While Killing didn't touch on this, I think the main issue with the quickfix is that it's such a game changing weapon that a decision on it needed to be made pretty quickly after the season was over. It wouldn't have been good for anyone if teams had spent the last month or so practicing with the quickfix only to have it banned about a week or so before matches for s15 start, and I think it's pretty safe to say that if left to a vote, it more than likely would have been banned. Being at LAN, it was pretty easy to gather that the general attitude towards the quickfix from the majority of the teams playing was pretty negative. I think Killing made the right call here, and in my own personal opinion I don't think any of the changes the quickfix brings to the game are positive and it shouldn't have a place in 6s in its current form.

Something quick and fun I did in about 5 minutes or so, will make "Good Job" flash on your screen like a hit marker when you do damage

You might want to mess with the xpos and ypos values depending on your resolution. I use 1600x900.

Thanks to rays for giving me the "good" and "job" 'crosshairs'

Powerjack pyro to mid is legit for a surprise play. Beyond that he's not anymore useful than he's been in the last 5 or 6 years.

Off for everything except, melee weapons, flamethrower, all medic weapons, and every spy weapon that isn't the revolver.

#104 Are you proud of being a (competitive) gamer? in Off Topic

It's not something I'm ashamed of, but when most of your friends don't care about tf2, and your family either makes fun of you for playing video games or just tells you that you play too much video games and don't focus enough on school, it becomes something you don't really want to talk about too often.

TheManWithNoNamepost #27:i am not saying it should be a huge consideration (if you totally ignore players you lose your player base) but ignoring the viewers/casual in these kinds of discussions (rule/map sets) are one of the things that keep TF2 from growing
post #33:look, i am not saying that the viewers perspective should be considered as 51% over the players perspective; but i am saying that i think it should be considered if you want the game to grow...

This is what I disagree with. It doesn't matter that you have a "fundamental understanding" of the game. You haven't played the game at any competitive level by your own admission Your opinion is not informed enough to be considered by anyone making decisions on how we play the game due to your lack of experience. That's it. It shouldn't be that hard to understand either.

Mr_Owl2sy_morphiendTheManWithNoNameup front: i do not play competitive tf2 at all
So please posit for me why your understanding of the game is on par with that of anyone that has ever played this game competitively. Please I want to hear why your opinion which you value so highly, is at all comparable to i49 MVP james "yuki" stanton.

he literally said in his first post that his opinion should not be a huge consideration when making these decisions. I'm not sure why you keep saying that he thinks his opinion is equal to anyone who plays competitively, much less someone who plays competitively at the very top level.

Hell, you're not even making arguments at this point, you're just attacking the guy for daring to share any opinion at all.

I don't agree with a lot of what this guy said, and I think his comment about viewers streaming to HL because 6s players are dicks is stupid, quite frankly. But he shared his opinion about the topic at hand (with full disclosure that he is a spectator, and his opinion should be taken with that in mind), and you're telling him that he shouldn't even get to share it.

Maybe I just don't get it.

I think it stems from the fact that he's more or less said that NOT taking spectator's opinions into consideration will keep the game from growing which is honestly a pretty moronic mindset.

This is the previously mentioned Killing post about why changing the rules in consideration of the viewers and not the players, is potentially harmful to the game.

No matter how much you think you know, manwithnoname, if you actually went out and started playing scrims/matches/pugs, I think you'd be quite surprised when you find out how much more there is you don't know, simply because you haven't played 6s before.

And it's the same with unlocks, you may know how they work and have used them before in the pub game, but that doesn't mean you know anything about how those unlocks affect the competitive game like someone who's actually experienced their use in scrims/matches does.

gr8stalinI know Munch - he's a Highlander pyro player who wants to play 6s. He knows a lot about Highlander play from experiencing it. He knows how and why pyro is relevant in HL - he is well informed.

I just want to point out that I've actually played more 6s than highlander at this point, rofl. I only played like, half of a season of highlander with a team in Gold that ended up dying and that community challenge thing etf2l did like 3 years ago. I just pubbed pyro a lot since I originally bought the game in 2007 and got into playing 6s around early 2012, but knew of its existence for several years before hand due to being friends with MaskedJackal. I wouldn't really consider my opinion on how highlander should be played to be all that valid, especially since I didn't really have that much fun with it when I played it over the summer.

But yeah, not to detract too much from the point june/stalin have been making, before I actually started playing 6s, I did watch a lot of it on youtube (this was before tf.tv existed and streaming was not as big as it is now) and while I was able to get a very basic understanding of it through watching casts/player PoVs, I have grown to understand much much more about how 6v6 is played in the year and a half or so that I've been playing it than I ever would have if I had only stuck to watching it. Even then, as someone who is probably around the mid-open skill range at best, there are other players who have been playing this game competitively for much longer than I have and/or have played it at a much higher level, and thus have a greater understanding than I do about certain aspects of the game. You have to understand that experience really is a big deal when talking about how a game should be played competitively, and that's the point we're trying to make here.

You can only switch stream quality if the channel is partnered. If you're watching someone that isn't partnered you have to watch at whatever quality the person streaming has it set at.
