#13 Mother 4 in Off Topic
KohakuMixed feelings about this. On one hand, it's pretty cool to see how ridiculously dedicated the Mother fanbase is and this honestly does look pretty professional. But as impressive as that professional-looking display is, seeing the title "Mother 4" on their site annoys me greatly, knowing that it's a fan-made project with no permission from the original creators at all. I probably wouldn't care as much if they didn't make it a numbered sequel, but it feels awfully arrogant to call what amounts to fanfiction Mother 4.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this gets a CnD, and I wouldn't really feel bad if it did.

You can look back and interpret it how you want, but Itoi has said in an interview like, years ago that if Mother 4 was ever going to be released, he'd want someone else to do it. I doubt that Nintendo as a company would feel the same way, but this is a project that's already been going on for years if I remember correctly. I sort of feel the same way about them outright calling it "Mother 4" but considering I'm actually replaying Mother 3 right now and remembering how much I love that game, I would like to see how this fan project ultimately ends up.

#5 Mother 4 in Off Topic

I don't want to sound like I'm trashing on the game, and I'd probably at least try it out when they release it, but I don't think any game calling itself Mother that isn't written by Shigesato Itoi would really have the same feel to it.

It looks like they're putting a lot of effort into it though if the site is any indication so it could turn out to be pretty good.

#37 College Majors in Off Topic

Used to do Computer Science, but I'm switching to English starting this semester because I found out I was shit at writing code but pretty good at writing words.

DeathanchorNetworking and Security Engineering master race.

As someone who spent time in the Engineering school at my college and roomed with two other engineering majors, I can say that they're all pretty much this pretentious about their major.

#105 Powerjack update -> pyro viable in 6v6? in TF2 General Discussion
r4ptureKind of off topic but I just wanted to post in this thread again to point something out
2sy_morphiendI don't think anyone that has seriously played the game for any real amount of time was complaining about a stale meta. Robin Walker talked out of his ass and UGC set itself on fire because for some reason they put absolute faith in a guy that has probably watched less competitive tf2 in his life than many of them do in a night.
I see so much of this it seriously makes me laugh and question the "great knowledge" of the general tf.tv consensus. If you or anyone honestly, HONESTLY think the guy who thought up, created, and maintained this game since 1996, who was involved in all aspects of the games tiniest details, the majority of which none of us even know, and who works for a company renowned for their top quality products and industry leading standards, is somehow absolutely clueless about the competitive aspect of of the game he created and maintained for 17 years, you are either highly delusional or have some serious cognitive dissidence going on.

JUST SAYIN

Robin Walker didn't create team fortress by himself, and he barely has anything to do with it today. To think he's still some great mastermind behind everything Team Fortress is ridiculously stupid.

Also it's quite obvious that Robin Walker doesn't understand 6v6, a format which he had nothing to do with conceptualizing and tf2 was obviously not designed with it in mind. So his opinion on our meta is about as valuable as someone who has only ever played in pubs. The fact that he was trying to compare it to Dota 2 is laughable at best.

#96 Powerjack update -> pyro viable in 6v6? in TF2 General Discussion

Hooey asked me to post this since his computer is dead and he wanted to put his opinion here, these are all his words not mine:

I feel like pyro is a much stronger class than what a lot of people are saying here. lol. I'm just going to say, anyone caught in range of a Pyro will instantly die, either via flamethrower, or puffed up in the air and crit flared, or axtinguished. So, basically, a smart Pyro knows what fights to pick, and he will basically murder anyone 1v1. If a Pyro is being pocketed, more than likely, for a Scout to be in range to kill him, he will be lit on fire and then critted to death before he even has a chance to do much damage. Let's talk about airblast. A large amount of the damage done in 6's come from projectiles. Pyro has a tool to completely nullify projectiles if you perfect the timing like I have. Pyro is a great pocket class because he has a tool to basically keep all damage off of the medic and demo. Pyro is not fit for a flank role cause romaer/scout do it better. He's a great pocket, though.

Deflects, if you master it, will basically allow your team to never worry about soldiers ever again. A soldier shooting rockets at Pyro means free 140 damage, and he will most likely die from fire damage or be cleaned up by someone else. If soldier decides to waste his time to shotgun the Pyro, the Pyro's teammates can collapse on that soldier and just easily focus him down. Pyro is a hilarious bait for my team to use. A pyro can nullify all of Demoman's damage output, and throw it back into his face too. If a Pyro gets into the range of Demo, he will basically melt him down, or demo will kill himself trying to kill him. Oh and airblast can basically deny bombing soldiers and fuck up ubers if Pyro is in smart position to do so.

Pyro is basically capable of countering all 6's classes, heavily soldier and demo, and the only really counter to Pyro is complete focus fire on him. Usually, this is done by a Scout combo of 2, but even then, if the scouts arent on their toes, I've murdered scout combos with my medic being alive too, various amounts of times cause I just fuck with their minds so much. Only thing that counter Pyros are Scouts if they have the obvious range advantage and Heavies. Heavies are a funny thing though, they could be a complete counter, but if a Pyro is ubered, heavy is basically a free kill, or if Pyro suprises Heavy, a good old flare gun/ axtinguish/ flame combo will melt Heavy down in like 2 or 3 seconds.

But let's talk about Powerjack, my computer is dead, so I haven't been able to use it yet, but I'm just crafting theories here. Powerjack's use seems like it would only be good for rollouts and coming back into fights faster, or possibly escaping but the way I see it as Pyro, you either commit, do work and die, or commit and die. Scouts will always be the ones to finish Pyro off, so using it as an escape tool really wouldnt do much. I'd much rather use Axtinguisher and have my free 195 damage when I uber in. Again, I havent messed with it yet so I wouldnt know, but that's just what I think of it right now. I'd probably be using it as one life time thing, for roll outs to mid, and that's about it.

On topic of unlocks, I feel like Detonator needs more love. It's an aboslute great tool for mids, turning Pyro into more of long range class. Since it's AoE you could light multiple targets on fire and screw up the heals of your enemies, meaning, enemy medic won't be able to focus heals on one person and someone is bound to die from afterburn at some point. It also mincrits a nice 45 damage. So your team just focuses people who ae on fire, and Pyro just keep the harass up, and you switch to your degreaser when scouts get close, which is a deathwish for them, soldiers bomb, or to keep spam off. Since Detonator reloads when you don't have it out, you can do both at the same time w/o a problem. Oh, and it can destroy sticky traps, aka detonate stickies off Badlands last, scouts rush onto point/spy decloaks

Uber Pyro's depending on map and the enemy's position is the scariest shit in the game. You can use it to murder everyone and airblast and axtinguish, or flaregun, or just get in close and light multiple people on fire at once and deal more damage than soldier could ever do. Where Pyro works depends on the map and the area of the map, it all varies, but there's places where uber Pyro does wreck shit. If uber Pyro is on a last and he can't do much, for lets say, like Snakewater or Badlands, you uber Pyro in onto the point, and he'll blow stickies off, and your demos stickies off the point, forcing them to go onto the stickies, and into the Pyro's range for them to die and get bursted to death, or for them to get airblasted off so he can continue to cap.

In conclusion, and answer to the thread's question, Pyro already was a viable option, no one bothered to learn to use him to his full potential like I have and a few other people have. Grape included, if I recall correctly. Pyro is the most frustrating class to fight against because of how he works and how he will basically win every single 1v1. I myself, when I watch people play against my Pyro just cringe, because it looks so annoying and frustrating to play against. People are just too afraid to try out new things because everyone is so used to just using cookie cutters and just follow what top players already done. It's why Invite players will stay invite, while they continue developing new strats, everyone else will just try to copy what they have already done, not even bothering to do something new.

#87 Powerjack update -> pyro viable in 6v6? in TF2 General Discussion

The simple answer is no, there's so many other things about pyro that have already been stated in this thread that being able to get to mid faster with the powerjack doesn't make up for. So no, he's not any more viable to run full time than he was before.

I'd still rather have a solider or scout at mid with me.

scrimshawi don't really care but i'd like the hear the justification for releasing it a day earlier to the people who paid

The entire point of having a paid version is to make it more enticing than the free version so people will actually buy it.
