What? Seems your rage has evolved into sheer idiocy.

PhaserPeople are saying we don't need LANs, all of the Invite players are saying they need it for motivation to keep playing(like endgame for an MMORPG), but a significant portion of the population says we don't need it to play TF2, the others are saying without an endgame the game will die
I think the first LAN was season 5 or 6 right?? Before that i don't really think anyone had an issue with the championships not being on LAN regardless of CEVO-P or ESEA invite. I think during the time TF2 was really entering it's prime and there was a lot of excitement and interest in the game...the LAN scene really meant something. Hell season 6 probably had the biggest upset ever and that would have been incredible to have been apart of in person. The reality is that we will probably never see that happen again when the same 2 teams have been going back and forth for the past 3 years. While i have respect for the skill and dedication plat and b4nny have invested into the game and their teams, why is LAN still such a big factor? For them i'm sure LAN is awesome, knowing you are still one of the best and will come away with some (hopefully) profit. Do you really need LAN to tell you that? If you can stomp a fellow invite team off-classing online...or 5-0 roll a 3/4 seed on normal classes...what difference will LAN really prove? Wouldn't it be easier to just play online and actually make a nice profit other than a mediocre one? Is it even worth it anymore for the 3rd & 4th seeds...realistically knowing you won't get above 3rd & 4th place? Maybe if you get community funding, but in essence it's like robbing Peter to pay Paul. I think our community goes above and beyond supporting the game to keep LAN's going, but it's not their responsibility by any means.

I honestly don't see how the competitive scene would die without ESEA LAN. It's not like TF2 gets remotely near any attention as the major competitive games out there right now. If the term endgame is being brought up, it's not the ESEA LAN...the real endgame imo are the international LAN's. i46/i49 were absolutely amazing to watch...i49 was probably the most enjoyable LAN event I've ever watched for TF2. All 4 top teams were totally capable of winning - that's something that would be awesome to be apart of. I wouldn't mind, however, hearing a real POV from someone like enigma/plat/b4nny...maybe i'm missing something.

A season 6 type of upset will never happen online.

FzeroLet me ask this about top level tf2 play and those people that goes to LANs, if it's honestly that important to you, are you willing to completely pay for the trip completely out of your own pocket?
I'm just wondering where the line is? Is going to LAN so important to not ask for a single donation?

Thats what we have done for the past 4 seasons.

pine_beetleI'm not getting payed for this to be clear. We're going to have big cash prizes. Not medals not hats.

Talk is cheap. Let's see some backup.

MerchantPlatinum#367 - all I'm saying is that if there is nothing to compete for, an incentive (money, fame, recognition, in-game unique items, WHATEVER) then what is the motivation to try and tackle the task of becoming the best? The first season might go off fine because of the sheer spite everyone has for esea right now, but I'm telling you without an adequate replacement for what we already have, it will stifle the growth and competition of this game
Lack of prizes won't stifle competition for all. Just the higher divisions (maybe). I think that smaka really explained it well in the post game interview that he gave about how when you are at the lower levels you really want to make it to the next division but once you make it to invite you can't play for that really so prizes help. That being said CEVO HAS money prizes. For this season there were only 7 teams and there is still a $600 prize pot. The CS:GO division has 117 teams from what I can see but the prizes are:

MAIN DIVISION - $1,750
1st - $1000
2nd - $500
3rd - $250 + 5x Zowiegear PTF Mousepads

INTERMEDIATE DIVISION - $750
1st - $500
2nd - $250
3rd - 5x Zowiegear Hammer Headsets

OPEN DIVISION - $50 St - $250
2nd - $150
3rd - $100
4th - 5x Zowiegear GRF Mousepads

I'm not saying these are what the prize pot will be but let's say it came down to the finals where you were fighting b4nnys team for either $167 each or $83 each (And you wouldn't have to pay for a LAN). Is that enough to make it competitive for you?

Well see there are two types of players in this game. There are the players like banny and his team who play the game nonstop all day long because they love it and have no other responsibilities. Then there are players like me and my team that love the game but cannot invest nearly as much time as we would perhaps like to into playing tf2. Now currently there exists one reason for players like me to invest as much time as I can spare to try and challenge players like banny, and that is the competition that exists at esea lan. The money is secondary benefit but it's really about the competition. Taking time out of your life to go compete in Dallas and winning is much more rewarding than winning an online game. I literally don't care about regular season matches anymore because they don't mean anything. If the prize was 60 per person online, I wouldn't care if players like banny won it or whatever. I would continue to play the game for fun as I always have, but there's no end trophy, prize, whatever worth trying to compete for. I believe this sentiment to be shared by a lot of the players at the highest level, hence my argument for an adequate replacement for esea being necessary to fuel the desire for u up and coming competitors that have the same mindset as me.

It's fine if you disagree but that's what I see happening. I'm curious to see the logistics of nahanni business plan for ascending cevo above esea, but I'd tend to think she's only in it for a season. Shes a wonderful lovely person but she spreads her wealth and efforts way too thin instead of focusing in one area.

I lied, I checked during lunch. Maela is right, except I think he'd be hard pressed to find2 metaphors worse than mine. As for #147,i do realize it. The exact thing you're talking about is why I started competing in the first place and I have thoroughly enjoyed competing against up and comers over the years, players like clockwork, lansky, Rando, yz50, all had drive to be the best and compete. This season has been miserable, and boring. Switching to another league with no incentive for any new clockworks or lanskys to come along will be even worse.

#131 thanks for reading and appreciating the subtlety. #132, not really. I've made my point and any time I've asked for a reasonable alternative or even something coherently on the works I receive some hearsay response about something that might happen. I'm done for now. Will check back tonight for any semblance of a promising solution.

Would you leave your girlfriend if she put a camera in your room? If you left her without a decent prospect, you may feel morally sound, but you're not getting laid for a long time.

SneakyPolarBearPlat, for the vast majority of us, it has never been about the viwers, or the LAN , or the competition. For me -- and I think for many many players (all the way to low mid invite) -- it has always and will always be about a love of the game.

I don't care about LAN or prize pools, all I want is to play team fortress 2 without installing malware on my computer.

ESEA has been great in its prize pools and LANs, but you have to recognize that 90% of players in comp tf2 play for one reason and one reason only: fun competition. If the 10% of people who only play to be sure that they are the very best (read: LAN) cannot find another reason to play, then unfortunately they will be lost.

There are some really promising prospects in terms of leagues and I know that me and my team (as well as many others) are finished with esea forever.

The true question now is will invite teams boldly go and lead us to a new league or will the 99% of tf2 players (if you will) will find a new league and kill esea tf2 once and for all. I have faith that even in this second case the competition will live on, if only because we love it so.

If 90 percent play for love of the game, why do you need the 10 percent to make your move successful?

So show me an adequate plan that suggests growth and stabilization of the game and ill support it, but I'm not creating it for you. And x3 time to shut the fuck up. Unless you're going to contribute.

I'm a realist. Everyone had this major push to attract more streaming viewers the past few months. I've done my part and stream fairly consistently when I am playing. Now you want competition to drive the viewer influx to bring new sponsors leagues tournaments etc, but now you're flopping and you want shitty competition to somehow sustain it's own growth. Think about the hypocrisy that goes on with this community.

Do NFL quarterbacks help run day to day managerial operations for the league? The hell does being invite mean I should have to out in effort to make sure a successful migration happens. Bunch of problem makers and no solution guys in this community.
