PlatinumKhakiPlatinum If the community wants to go to another league, go! We are only 2 teams.
I just noticed this cracker jack bit of logic. If the tf2 community leaves ESEA, that means the tf2 division also disappears since ESEA isn't going to run a 2 team division. So what your post is really saying is, "We really like winning money and a trip to dallas every 3 months, and we're pretty sure the tf2 community won't be able to organize and migrate to a new league without the invite team's instigating this migration, so we're just gonna ride this ESEA thing for as long as we can."
Why do you think we win money? I've paid 380 min. For the past 5 seasons and the only reason I break even is because we come in second minimum. But to your other points, yes I'm not putting extra time into something that will fail, why don't you do it?
Because I don't play tf2 anymore, and because I'm not a top invite player.
Also I like your optimism for the future of competitive tf2

Do NFL quarterbacks help run day to day managerial operations for the league? The hell does being invite mean I should have to out in effort to make sure a successful migration happens. Bunch of problem makers and no solution guys in this community.

Platinumthe301stspartanPlatinum, I'm sure top invite players are pretty intelligent, why don't you invest some of those tf2 hours in the stock market if money is your only incentive?
I think the incentive for some people might be having fun playing and getting better at tf2 and possibly win money, without installing viruses that send their personal information to ESEA and raise their power bills in return.
I work 11 hours a day to make money. My tf2 time, which is limited in itself, is for tf2. I get esea is sleezy as fuck. Who is gonna step up to make something better? I sure as hell am not, are you?
I'm already doing more than you just by not being a top competitive player advocating the use of a league that installs malware on people's computer instead of supporting change.

You can't be serious.
TF2=small NFL=not small
Invite teams are influencial because their games get a lot of views and thus interest leagues in supporting tf2 because that's how they get ad money.
what is simple logic

I'm a realist. Everyone had this major push to attract more streaming viewers the past few months. I've done my part and stream fairly consistently when I am playing. Now you want competition to drive the viewer influx to bring new sponsors leagues tournaments etc, but now you're flopping and you want shitty competition to somehow sustain it's own growth. Think about the hypocrisy that goes on with this community.

You can't be this ignorant. Of course NFL players don't have anything to do with organizing the league, the NFL makes billions of dollars and is one of the most popular competitive sports in the world. competitive tf2 isn't even one of the most popular competitive video games, so of course people in the community need to step up to push it further, and as an invite player you shape what the community decides is best for the game

pine_beetleShenaniganpine_beetleMGEMikepine_beetleIt's very important for a competitive league to induce competition, this is why everyone flocked to esea in the first place. It's why esea has been by far the most competitive league worldwide year after year. Euros getting there shitstomped by the Americans at I46 was the direct catalyst to their success at I49. platinum and other invite players shouldn't have to be the ones to put effort into helping anything get off the ground unless they want to... all any new league structure really needs from them is a commitment that they will play in their league and take it seriously for the first season or two where the only prizes will be from league fees or other minimal sources (community funding, possibly one or two private sponsors) before it gets off the ground and can try to get real sponsors.

I'm willing to forgo ever playing on a competitive team if it means it frees up my time to work on a viable alternative.
If any alternative league wants to contact me for any assistance, just add me on steam and I'll be more than willing to help

growth and stabilization of the game? have you not noticed from your seasons of experience that the community stabilized awhile ago??
But then again like plat has been explaining, he's just some stupid fucking nfl quarterback with a myriad of health disorders from being tackled for 12 seasons straight, so don't listen to his inane ramblings.
But come on, do you really think esea is going to shell out a big prize pot and lan for just the 8 invite teams that stay while the rest of the community shifts?
also stop comparing yourselves to games that are much more popular like dota/cs, you guys have never been and will never be a major game or receive sponsorship from anyone outside the community. get over it and stop playing video games for anything but fun.
"lol we need money to have an incentive to be good/have fun" - invite shills, circa every esea season since the top teams solidified in season 4-5

Plat, for the vast majority of us, it has never been about the viwers, or the LAN , or the competition. For me -- and I think for many many players (all the way to low mid invite) -- it has always and will always be about a love of the game.
I don't care about LAN or prize pools, all I want is to play team fortress 2 without installing malware on my computer.
ESEA has been great in its prize pools and LANs, but you have to recognize that 90% of players in comp tf2 play for one reason and one reason only: fun competition. If the 10% of people who only play to be sure that they are the very best (read: LAN) cannot find another reason to play, then unfortunately they will be lost.
There are some really promising prospects in terms of leagues and I know that me and my team (as well as many others) are finished with esea forever. NATF2L, a new UGC paid league , and CEVO all seem willing to commit the time and energy to expanding their league.
The true question now is will invite teams boldly go and lead us to a new league or will the 99% of tf2 players (if you will) will find a new league and kill esea tf2 once and for all. I have faith that even in this second case the competition will live on, if only because we love it so.

How about the community stops funding teams to ESEA lans and we'll see what happens. I paid 700€ to go to i46 from my own money even when I knew I wasn't gonna win. Maybe you really should take a break from tf2 and come back when the migration to another league has happened and is past the initial baby steps.

Immediate growth is off the table. Aim for lack of criminality and basic competence at running a tf2 league.

The desire to win and respect for your opponents breeds good competition. Maybe some people in this community need a tangible incentive to want to win but I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of players who don't already have multiple series championships under their belt simply care more about proving themselves.
Any new league will only be taken as legitimately as we make it. If we have loads of teams offclassing it kills competition and breeds even more foolishness because winning the league (or division) no longer proves that you are the best.
Also plat, you seem to say that esea providing a lan directly drives the top NA team's determination to win, however you reference the summer of 2012 as the peak of american competition. Why would you say competition decreased after that? We still have had esea lan, and we knew a team would be going to i49. Especially knowing that most likely only the s13 winners would go to i49, shouldn't the push to win that season have been even higher? The fact that it wasn't is evidence that the desire for players to prove themselves VASTLY outweighs and tangible gains we get from winning. After i46 you already had your international championship title, so that raw desire to prove dominance was diminished.
However, the majority of us still have that desire, and this is what drives us to play this game seriously.

I don't think that a new plan is a smart idea. I think that a good idea would be to elevate an existing league and pressure them to give us the features that we want. I wonder if CEVO is willing to create/sponsor an invitation-only LAN.
ESEA is the best option right now, but CEVO and/or ETF2L could easily become a better league once key changes are made.
There are a lot of things that ESEA gives us right now that we take for granted. CEVO has serious promise, but they have to add live stat-tracking, a LAN, a decent prize structure, and a few other small things in order to tip the scales in their favor.
The amount of human capital, time, and resources required to build an entire league is absolutely staggering - and it would involve likely thousands of dollars and plenty of manpower (at least 10 people).
Our best bet is to let non-TF2 people build the league and give them a minor cut (a little $) in order to make it all work. ESEA did this for us, but upper management at the league have compromised their position.

plat does bring up a good point in a lot of his posts that some people in this thread seem to be missing, mainly that the biggest problem with making a new competitive league is a lack of central leadership. for some reason a lot of the people in this community have decided that iT and mix^ are the last word when it comes to whether or not TF2 will stay in esea, when neither of these teams have said or made any kind of action to demonstrate willingness to take on a leadership role. and they shouldn't, honestly.
the word committee keeps coming up as a way to make decisions. this might be the most ass-backwards way of thinking, as i see this community thrive under bandwagon politics. i would not want to play in a league where every feature and decision was decided by a group of radical kneejerkers who hunt for +frags.

all I see in this thread is what might have been good points undermined by the fact that the most active arguments consist of people who resort to ad-hominem attacks and insults instead of saying anything substantial
you can disagree about whether or not mixup should have offclassed in an invite match for fun, or whether esea's complete lack of integrity is worth the lan, or who should put effort into creating a new league (which everyone seems to be convinced should be "everyone but me") but at least do it without acting like fucking children
the last few post haven't been as bad but goddamn if the last 3.5 pages before haven't been absolutely atrocious

If 90 percent play for love of the game, why do you need the 10 percent to make your move successful?
[quote=SneakyPolarBear]Plat, for the vast majority of us, it has never been about the viwers, or the LAN , or the competition.

PlatinumSo show me an adequate plan that suggests growth and stabilization of the game and ill support it, but I'm not creating it for you. And x3 time to shut the fuck up. Unless you're going to contribute.
ETF2L has already shown explicit support for the idea of a NA division and CEVO has shown very interested in welcoming new players as well as well as UGC.
Both ETF2L and CEVO have prizepools, albeit smaller they are compensated by being free to play leagues.
You should not take this issue that lightly if you truly care about the game, because whether you want it or not you're one of the best players in the game as are many other invite players and people will look up to you invariably so it would be good if after this season lan some invite players/teams really took a stance and made a decision where to settle, but if you wanna keep riding that ESEA horse, I'm afraid you will be riding it alone (possibly with no lan). Multiple people have been banned 10 years for simply questioning the admins, influent community members and sponsors have publicly dropped the support for the league and everyone is fed up with what has been happening, the malware on the client was the last straw.

breloomradium I wonder if CEVO is willing to create/sponsor an invitation-only LAN.
yo. the whole point of CEVO is that it's KLAN free.
The spectacle of LAN has driven a lot of new blood into Open over the last few seasons. I think that you NEED a LAN for that reason alone. It's literally our Super Bowl from an exposure/marketing standpoint. I think that the migration would have happened already if CEVO were to say "we're running a league funded LAN event".
How the LAN participants are FUNDED needs to be addressed, but I think the that idea of a LAN championship is quite an honorable one.

The real question is how many innocent will come into this thread gobbling up Platinum's every word thinking he's right?
