london_callingyeah i was hoping we could decide the maplist for ourselves for the DIY tournament. i'll be organizing "teams" this weekend, so get ready to be confused.

We do intend to allow the non-community members at the event to play in the diy tourney right? Have we decided about having an entry fee or not?

#1 Possible Small US Lans for tf2 and others in LAN Discussion

I am not sure if anything will come of this, but there is a start-up company called Iron Gaming which has provided production setup for other medium/small US based LANS (AGL, Gamers 4 Giving, ect).

They have hosted a few LANS before for games like halo 4 and have apparently paid out the winners.

They are currently having a vote for one Console game and one PC game for their "Community" supported games. They have $50k of their own investments for the prize money of their community supported games.

They are aiming to do a season with online qualifiers and LANS which all lead up to a big final at the annual Rooster Teeth Expo in Texas this summer.

You can fill in the blanks for 4 or 5 games that you want to be supported. Might be a hoax. Might not be. Do it if you want to support our game or other worthy games. might be worth getting in touch with them also.

RJ-BTW guys they supply the monitor but they don't know yet if they are supplying 120 hz or 60 hz monitors but they 'll let me know asap.

There is a fine line between providing monitors to rent, or making you use theirs. Quakecon has/had rental service which is nice.

tomroadrunnerRastsyWhy do I even care?
Streamers and big community players (besides total biscuit) are blindly hyping this game like no other, even fucking fatality is stooping himself so low to play this shit, and not even giving a damn about the issues.
There has been an annoying person in my house constantly talking about the game since it was announced, and I see him blow 60 bucks on this train wreck of a game and it turns out like this.

Implying a lack of intelligence by someone thinking a game is fun despite the issues makes you look like the one that is lacking. The issues may bother you more, and that's fine, you're more than welcome to share your opinion. When you use that opinion to try and artificially elevate yourself, you come off like an ass.

I haven't purchased the game yet, played the beta though. Seemed like the Pacific Rim of videogames. Big, rock-fuckingly stupid, but really really fun. Lots of people are saying the same thing. It's not a masterpiece, and I'm personally unsure of whether I think it's worth $60, but you'd do yourself a service if you avoided swinging your opinion like a mallet instead of simply sharing it.

We play tf2 I'm quite aware that there is fun to be had with a game with issues perfect performance and amazing gameplay.

The bottom line is the game is half-decent, and could be so much more. A lot of people are glossing over that and encouraging people to just buy it. I literally don't care what you think of me or what anyone else thinks of me. Just would like people to be a little more informed about the game and the climate around it before they make their purchase, and not just fall into the hype. Yes sometimes you have to swing your opinion with a rocket propelled mallet, but you have to fill an extreme sometimes just to get people to see a reasonable middle ground in their heads.
Being someone who doesn't exactly have 60 bucks to throw around for games every day, getting entertainment for my money matters(Praise be our lords steam sales, and thee humble bundle). Don't want to see anyone being disappointed about a very hyped game. I've done that before at least a few times. Being a fan of the System shock games Bioshock comes to mind. Perhaps I expect a little too much from gaming these days. I'll be sure to praise them when they fix their shit.

#2 suicide. in Off Topic

I've had a friend who was on the verge of suicide multiple times in the last 5 years. First of all to clarify for you in this case you have the right to decide if you live or die. No one will ever tell you that suicide is the answer. Loved ones will miss you, but don't feel pressured to stay in this world because of that. Decide to live in this world because death is scary, death is final, and you don't get to say oh yea I would rather live mid jump into traffic. Decide to live because living is literally everything, existing is everything and you don't want to be nothing right?

In terms of taking greater risks some people might say you are doing things that make you more alive then others. I'm not particularly one to agree, but I sit on my ass and play video games as a passion.

Friends that ditch you because you are suicidal are not really strong friends, It's really upsetting especially if most of your friends have ditched you because of that, but realize that you are most likely better off without them.

Ive battled OCD for the last 10 years of my life. The best thing you can do to fix that shit is to talk to someone who has the same ocd tendencies as you, and share experiences. That is the only thing that has even somewhat helped me function normally in 10 years of battling this stupid shit. Also realize that ocd tendencies often mean that you are more intelligent then most so you have something to be proud of in that regard.

Thoughts about murder can range from the every day "oh if I killed him how would it effect the world and my life" to "I want to kill people because it would make me feel better" They also range in seriousness. If you feel that you cant control yourself enough to not murder someone you need to inform the authorities and ask to be taken into custody. That's really serious shit, and you have no right to end someones life like that.

In terms of drug abuse you might look to medical marijuana as a solution to these things. I have heard it can help with ocd though I have yet to try it. Just be careful to not be admitted to the Psyche ward when talking to your doctor. Don't do hard drugs, Think you have no control now? You will have 0 when you are fucking cracked out.

If nothing I have said has helped so be it, but this is my two cents. I'm here for you might be bullshit from your so-called friends, but I can tell you that personally that's not true, and I'm sure many other members of this community actually are here to help. If you want someone to talk to about this, that has undergone the same feelings, I can put you in touch with my friend who had the suicidal thoughts.

Sincerely

Nicholas (Rastsy) C.

#49 Titanfall in Other Games

This game is mediocre at best. The development team is slow as balls (haven't fixed majority of issues from beta which literally played like the e3 demo.), and is trumped by the xbox360 devs (bluepoint) who care way more about optimization and performance then they do. Game has 60 fps cap (for reference even the shit call of duty's have at least a 90fps cap. If 60 fps cap is bypassed by a getto vysnc trick game has retarded sensitivity tied to fps. Imagine 40 inch 360 because you have 400 fps for looking at a wall. Cannot be custom capped by other programs. Most likely they cap it because they are aware of the problems that they added to the source engine for no reason. Speaking of the engine they dicked around with it for no reason, completely changing the structure or the console, and locking you out of every useful performance, or experience variable that there is.

Weapons feel uninspired and lacking, or are literally broken.(satchel charges) Hit reg is completely based on how many people are crowding up the games population thanks to the stupid cloud server crap they pulled.

The burn card system is the stupidest thing, and breaks every other semblance of balance when either a titan drops within the first 10 secs of a game, or someone has a gun that has double the damage of yours. At least everyone fucking sucks monkey nuts in this game and cant hit their shots anyways.

The game is a huge important big budget title and uses the source engine, but they didn't go to valve for publishing on pc? Seriously? I feel like valve would have helped them with the source engine and made sure that the game would at least live up to the hype a little better if they sided with them, much like turtle rock studios works with valve.

Perhaps valve didn't want them to join up with them because they thought they were scumbags, and all of the infinity ward crap that happened with Activision was actually them being scumbags and not Bobby Kotick literally being emperor palpitine. Which I have to say is a very important public image fiasco that they needed to address, and eliminate. Its not helpful for long term profits, and general faith when you are still not sure that the company is not a bunch of scumbags.

Game feels unfinished, and rushed in every possible way even the main menu seems like a work in progress.

Feels like it is going to be abandoned. The game doesn't look like it has any kind of future (Bf4 anyone?), and is just another immense waste of potential. Not worth 60 bucks.

Why do I even care?

#15 Shootmania Storm. Thoughts? in Other Games

paid 20 bucks for it when the ipl thing was still going on. wrecked carnage on my first game of it. Got my monies worth. The interface is so awful that no one understands how to get games going which is probably why no one is playing it. its a semi-ok cool idea I guess.

eXtineThis is the more complete schedule for the event - http://lanfest.forcerun.com/schedule/ and this is the current rule sheet for TF2 - https://lanfest.intel.com/upload/chapters/3/Sacramento_2013H1/LANFestFall13_TF2_Rules.pdf

I've been told that the rules are still fleXible, but we should get suggestions into them by Friday. I can write an e-mail that will get passed along tonight.

ESEA Whitelist and slight adjustments to the maplist are all that needs to change really. Gpit, Well, Coldfront, and Standin out, Snakewater and what else added in?

Would they be willing to have non-"valve maps" pro_viaduct, koth_coalplant, cp_metalworks? sunshine??? or could we at least do that for our community tournament?

manaI'm confirmed to go.

I'm literally flying in hours before the LAN, attending, and then going back to the airport for a Sunday morning flight. This is going to be weird.

Mana are you flying out just for the lan?

The lan usually sets up some servers for the tf2 tourney, and I'm sure if you asked them nicely enough they would throw them on again. I'm pretty sure that we pugged on them last time before the tournament.

I'm down for a buy in tournament with cash pots or reasonably cool prizes. I can speak for my team being down as well. I just hope that it doesn't get in the way of other events because i want to play in the cs tourny as well, and make people feel bad that they play battlefield.

In regards to them putting the game on friday at that time, I just question what they are doing to the community that consistently brings 30-40 players to these things.
