#50 favorite racing games in Off Topic

Nascar Racing 2003 had a bunch of mods too. Made by the people who currently run iRacing, and previously Grand Prix Legends, which at the time was the most difficult racing simulation of the early 2000s. It's similar to TF2 in that it has a technical depth that leads to having a high skill ceiling, i.e. rocket/sticky jumping.

Gran Turismo games have always been awesome. GT5 is still great for quick runs. I've personally had racing wheels since I was 16 (and I'm almost double that now), but don't use mine much these days.

#18 144hz question in Hardware

Something someone else said should have worked by now, but to just remove it from "multi-monitor" mode.

Right click desktop > Screen Resolution/display settings > click the other ghost monitor > disable/disconnect this monitor. You may have to look for the advanced options. its more obvious in Windows 7 than Windows 10.

#9 if you google inches per 360, tf.tv is 2nd result in Off Topic

\

Enterimgoogle puts sites you visit a lot towards the top of the results if they seem relevant to the query, jsyk. try doing it in a private browser window or better yet, a Tor session.

Yup I did that to verify I wasn't crazy.

#65 Overwatch Open Beta Live in Other Games
mathsad maybe i'm alone in this but the hud in overwatch is one of the worst i've ever used. being "polished" isn't an excuse when its not practical and you are constantly looking down away from the action to look at your health or ammo. there's a reason lots of custom tf2 huds put the health close to the crosshair or make it extremely big.

Better than paladins, at least it actually feels done. Presents abilities well to newbies. Perhaps health could be more upfront. Battleborn is even more of a cluster-fuck in terms of UI and distracting things, so when you compare OW to modern new shooters it's at least super clean. (haven't played doom/any cods/bfs)

KerchtrippaSince when is the default tf2 experience shit? What are you talking about
Playing soldier or demoman with cl_interp 0.1 is most definitely shit.

This and it's just not as welcoming to newbies. No dmg numbers by default, the quick match or find a server experience seems poor from their perspective when you're used to queueing quickly for other games.

Gunboat_DiplomatShun3. There's many advanced movement mechanics that are easier to understand than sticky/rocket-jumping. Rather than just those 2. Tracer blink/recall, widow grapple, junkrat jumping, reaper teleportPress shift for advanced movement

Several that are more fun, like mercy healing shift. Fly to any target makes support more satisfying. 6v6 tf2 is beginning to feel limited to me with just soldier/scout/demo movement options. Sure perfect rocket jumping is satisfying but you can still perfect your blink skills and find creative places to use movement.

Glad some had deeper thoughts than trashing it in one line. Seems like a fine experience that happens to utilize my learned-from-tf2 skills, strange to see such bashy reviews from tf.tv but there are valid points.

#34 Overwatch Open Beta Live in Other Games

tf.tv full of so many god FPS players that you don't realize how biased you are about a game that is so out-dated.

Quick pluses of OW:

1. Quick to play, jump into a game, with a completely standardized format of 6v6. No finding a server, clicking a quickplay icon that makes you wait a few minutes to find a server that may or may not have a legitimate game.
2. An extremely polished HUD/UI/interface. It took me all of 10 seconds to change my key bindings for Zenyatta when I realized I wanted to swap jump/orb of harmony. It's really well designed in so many ways.
3. There's many advanced movement mechanics that are easier to understand than sticky/rocket-jumping. Rather than just those 2. Tracer blink/recall, widow grapple, junkrat jumping, reaper teleport
4. Teamwork still required even in pub play. If your teammates solo feed into a point you will not suceed. When randos team up and work together, strong team play wins out.

Of course all of you are Gods at the game, you've spent years playing a movement oriented FPS that OW has been admittedly modeled on. Are you saying you don't enjoy top scoring games on a regular basis? Keep in mind you're playing people who have just started playing the OW beta and probably don't play FPS often.

Go watch the Gamespot part 2 (return of 90s shooter) to see that 1. OW is based around movement skills 2. the OW team understands why TF2 competitive was mildy popular but that many hated normie TF2 for things like insta-spawn 2fort meat-grinders.

Many casual gamers are getting into OW because they see the fun that can be had in team-based FPS. Some of these gamers had been turned off from TF2 for various reasons. The default TF2 experience is shit. The default OW experience is extremely well polished and makes you want to play as a team, with friends or solo.

Thursday nights at 7pm ET this has a pug tournament: https://discord.gg/0sSujyxnYPcJ7W0Z

This is a channel with an EU pug bot but we're trying to get more NA people to play: https://discord.gg/0rQQ4suZCUXPjlVq

#38 Warmth Solutions in Off Topic
I already keep the thermostat way too high (It says 80 deg F, but I don't believe it for a second.), and my electricity bill this month is telling me I need to find a better solution. ... At any rate, heating the entire living space (700 sq ft) is kind of silly, because I spend the majority of my time at my PC in my room.

Do you have a heater in both rooms controlled by the same thermostat? You need to turn down your heat level in living room and raise it in your room. What kind of heaters do you have? Floor Radiators, standing radiators, air-blown, etc?

If you have no heater in your room and only 1 in the living room get a space heater.

The thermostat sets the room it is in to the temperature it is at. Sounds like you're heating you're living room to 80 but this does not permeate through the rest of the house/heating system.
