I'd take dying to a pubber's random crit over dying to S:76 any day. At least the former actually had to somewhat aim.

Yeah, the game is not enjoyable to solo queue in at all. I also highly dislike how hard it is to outplay people with all these abilities.

Might be fun to pub with some friends, but beyond that, this game doesnt seem very good.

tf.tv full of so many god FPS players that you don't realize how biased you are about a game that is so out-dated.

Quick pluses of OW:

1. Quick to play, jump into a game, with a completely standardized format of 6v6. No finding a server, clicking a quickplay icon that makes you wait a few minutes to find a server that may or may not have a legitimate game.
2. An extremely polished HUD/UI/interface. It took me all of 10 seconds to change my key bindings for Zenyatta when I realized I wanted to swap jump/orb of harmony. It's really well designed in so many ways.
3. There's many advanced movement mechanics that are easier to understand than sticky/rocket-jumping. Rather than just those 2. Tracer blink/recall, widow grapple, junkrat jumping, reaper teleport
4. Teamwork still required even in pub play. If your teammates solo feed into a point you will not suceed. When randos team up and work together, strong team play wins out.

Of course all of you are Gods at the game, you've spent years playing a movement oriented FPS that OW has been admittedly modeled on. Are you saying you don't enjoy top scoring games on a regular basis? Keep in mind you're playing people who have just started playing the OW beta and probably don't play FPS often.

Go watch the Gamespot part 2 (return of 90s shooter) to see that 1. OW is based around movement skills 2. the OW team understands why TF2 competitive was mildy popular but that many hated normie TF2 for things like insta-spawn 2fort meat-grinders.

Many casual gamers are getting into OW because they see the fun that can be had in team-based FPS. Some of these gamers had been turned off from TF2 for various reasons. The default TF2 experience is shit. The default OW experience is extremely well polished and makes you want to play as a team, with friends or solo.

MagikarpCradleAre there gonna be community servers? Not exactly an answer to your question, but I do not think there is any Blizzard game that has community servers in:
SC:BW, SC2, WC3, WoW, Hearthstone, Diablo 3, or HotS.

the feature isn't official but it exists for Wow with private servers, or for BW. Perhaps for diablo 2 too but i'm not too sure.

maybe i'm alone in this but the hud in overwatch is one of the worst i've ever used. being "polished" isn't an excuse when its not practical and you are constantly looking down away from the action to look at your health or ammo. there's a reason lots of custom tf2 huds put the health close to the crosshair or make it extremely big.

i think the game is fun but as a fps it's definitely lacking. competitively i can see how people are into it but man the magic of games like unreal tournament or quake or even tf2 just isn't here, might be just nostalgia.

instead of looking at overwatch as a tf2 replacement, people should really treat it as a different beast. will be interesting to see how it develops when the game fully comes out.

The biggest single problem I have with OW is all the clutter on my screen during every single fight. The overwhelming amount of eye candy is what needs the most fixing.

the biggest issue with the game is the disparity between fun and winning.

a team can be on defense and go 5 roadhog (pudge). This will actually be VERY hard to deal with if you dont have full cooperation from your team.Roadhog is fun to play. You hit your hook, get a free kill, maybe someone else hooks after you, and you back up and heal yourself.

the attacking team now has 2 options: pick the counter to 5 roadhogs and play them correctly (zarya) or lose. This issue exists throughout the game in some form or another. Blizzard doesn't want to put in class limits, which means they dont want to balance around single heroes, but then they also want this to be a watchable esport. It makes little to no sense.

Theres still a lot of time for this game to get better. It's definitely not tf2. The teamwork required and the timing of spell usage makes it different from tf2 but in overwatch clockwork cant just join b4nnys team and consistently get 2-3 kills in a mid or a flank to win you the game. Your entire team needs (like 100%) to be playing well for your team to win which makes it semi unique as far as fps games go.

At the end of the day though its just 6v6 payload and half of the assault ults can kill 6 people before they can react to it which to me isn't fun at all. Blizzard has been open to feedback and clockwork and I have sat down with their esports director already. He's a smart dude. Once him and the design/gameplay team sit down and make the game not feel like a gimmicky 1shot lightfest it will be good (if that happens)

If it doesnt happen, theyre still gonna pump infinite money into marketing and esports, so players who want to live off gaming should be giving it a chance regardless for now. steel started streaming last night, had 700 viewers at 12pm and 5k by midnight. The money, and the plebs will be there. Dismissing it because it's 'lacking as an fps' which is definitely is btw, is probably not the right move if youre looking to stay up to date or want something to do while valve does whatever its doing with tf2.

There are definitely a lot of turn offs in this game. They still have a month before launch and I think we have to remember TF2 launched with dustbowl/goldrush initially with random crits. Time can do miraculous things.

yeah like what's happening itt. it was just a thread about the open beta, when did it start becoming a pissing contest? the imaginary war that tf2 players wage on this game makes no ducking sense.

it's cool if you don't like the game/think it's too easy/for casuals/whatever but the tf2 comparisons are stupid

trippaSince when is the default tf2 experience shit? What are you talking about

it's pretty bad dude. it's a clusterfuck aesthetically, is optimized like dogshit, has way too many weapons and dumb shit to keep track of, and a lot of the default maps are just bad.

it's hard to think about what it's like to be brand new to tf2 in its current state because you probably started playing when it wasn't inflated with trash and ran like garbage so that's the "default tf2 experience" you have in your head. but it's objectively a terrible first impression. just try to imagine being a player for the first time and dying to a level 3 sentry and seeing the engie behind it, then you respawn and die to another guy playing engie but this time he has a robot fist and his sentry is tiny wait is this the same class what is going the fuck on? why did it have a red barrier and kill me from across the map?

i have a lot of friends who have somehow dodged playing tf2 all these years and that's what their first impressions are like. just lots of confusion and low framerates. there's too much shit in this game right now and it's super unpolished.

Game is fun to play with a few decently high skillcap characters like tracer

there is alot of dumb stuff like auto ults (76, reaper, widow) but overall its not that bad. If you haven't played Pharah yet I'd encourage you to do so, you'd probably crush people

Also the lack of health bars on allies outside of supports and 76 is really terrible and to a lesser extent the lack of damage numbers is also pretty off putting

saamyes how on earth could a thread about the new 6v6 class based shooter posted on a forum for discussion for of an older 6v6 class based shooter turn into a discussion on which one is better it's honestly baffling

yes it is a class based shooter. but nothing about this game outside of having classes and a payload game mode resembles tf2 whatsoever. also, most people don't think of tf2 as 6v6, that's just us. so 99% of people making the tf2 comparisons don't have this "6v6" thing in mind at all which makes their comparisons even more nonsensical.

you're literally all saying the game is a watered down tf2 or a casualized tf2 as if blizzard wanted to make another tf2. they didn't. there's a three part series about the making of this game and they allude to tf2, like, once. they wanted to make a team centric fast paced shooter with a unique twist to it and that's what they did.

or maybe people are comparing it to tf2 because everyone here plays tf2 the most and they are trying to decide if overwatch is a better game and they should switch over

it doesn't matter what sort of game blizzard wanted to make if people don't enjoy it

ok sure, so let me rephrase "why are people comparing this to tf2" to "stop comparing this to tf2 it's apples and oranges"

there are plenty of reasons to dislike this game and none of them have to do team fortress 2.

TF2:
-Free
-9 characters with loadouts you can customize for different experiences
-91 maps
-17 gamemodes (18 if you count training)
-Custom maps means that there's always something to do

Overwatch:
-$40-$120
-21 characters with 2 abilities, 1 ultimate, and 1-2 guns
-12 maps
-4 gamemodes
-Unable to host servers or make maps

Although, we are comparing TF2 after 7 years to Overwatch in beta so this isn't really a fair comparison

So I really glad that I got a chance to play the beta. At first I was thinking, "nah not gonna try it until the price dropped". Plus really enjoyed playing tf2 for several years now. And I can say this gives a whole new alternative for me to enjoy. It was fun to play, counters for each hero, and teamwork is encouraged (although still trying to figure out the meta and play styles on the different types of maps).

Just bought the game this morning after having so much fun last night. I missed out on tf2s release and this is the most fun I've had in a new game for quite some time. Yes, I will continue to play competitive Tf2. Yes I will probably spend some time to check out the competitive scene. Why not? Blizzard just announced a 10,000 dollar tournament. Tf2 has never had that type of esport backing. And I wish we did. This is a breath of fresh air on the new take blizzard has taken on fps . Sure there are obviously some issues with the game on general. But the fact I had fun playing, the esport side of it is (potentially) taking off, and how much work blizzard in general put into the initial release is awesome.

Just my personal initial reaction.
