#21 Why it’s time to say goodbye to TF2Center in TF2 General Discussion

Further criticising the complete mess that is TF2center at this point feels both like beating a dead horse and wasting energy, so to stay on the constructive side of this discussion: if people step up and this whole project (which I will from now on refer to as Operation !Rep TF2Center and none of you can stop me goddammit) goes somewhere, if people want I'll gladly help with the replacement however I can where writing is needed, can also throw in some input on design if it helps. If a team gets together to work on a Center replacement, whatever form it may take, let me know.

#98 DeutschLAN drops TF2Center sponsorship in TF2 General Discussion

TF2C's administration team has serious issues. In other shocking news, Team Fortress 2 is a video game and Earth is not, in fact, flat but rather more of an imperfect sphere.

#4 TFTV Community HUD Proposal in Customization

I cannot support this idea enough. Maybe stylistically similar to the TFTV spectator HUD but optimized (visually speaking) for gameplay rather than spectating? I would be so down for that I would switch from takyahud in a heartbeat.

Incidentally, the above is also a genuine suggestion to TLR to change their name to TFR, so that they can get sponsored by dental practices who will get advertisement every time Mirelin calls them "teeth-ee-are" in a cast.

#1 ETF2L S21 Playoffs Delays: The Aftermath in TF2 General Discussion

The year is 2019. After 4 long years, the bugs have been polished out and the ETF2L Season 21 playoffs are beginning.

nR lost their sponsorship many years ago and after having gone through every other cereal mascot in the time between the main season and playoffs are now named Captain's Crunchers, thought by many as their best name to date, even beating Coco's Poppers. Due to this distinct name advantage over The Final Resort, who have changed their name to avoid confusion with people named Tyler, CC are set to take this series in a clean 6-0 sweep after Sideshow fucks up the configs.

Permzilla, coming back fresh from his 5th retirement, has finished allowing all of TF2's weapons on the 6v6 whitelist in order to finish the game off for good. ShaDowBurn now uses the Beggar's Bazooka exclusively which has been buffed to fire 9 perfectly accurate Direct Hit rockets on a full load, except when mercing for LEGO when he uses his exclusive Genuine Unusual StatTrak Promotional Factory New "LEGO Brick" Rocket Launcher to promote team synergy.

The first game, casted by Season 18's Caster of the Season Admirable and Season 19's Caster of the Season Admirable, with an exclusive appearance from Season 20's Caster of the Season Admirable on camera, starts in disaster as CC realise they need three mercs to TFR's one, as the Anti-Cheat staff have finally reached their goal of banning every player to live or have been born in France. The only French players still standing are baud, who conclusively proved his innocence by pointing out to the AC team that he is in fact Belgian and not French, and KnOxXx, who the AC team tried to ban for aimbotting before realising he can't aim.

With NiCO having been banned after the shocking discovery that his mum was playing for him the whole time, TFR try to bring in sheepy; unfortunately, the merc is denied by Reason. TFR try to dispute this on the grounds that Reason are not even playing in this fixture but admins rule that the denial stands, forcing TFR to use ShaDowBurn on his third PC; his second is already in use as he is also playing in the place of Herr_P, who is trapped in a nightmarish alternate dimension of infinitely long train journeys. CC just borrow KnOxXx from Reason, who plays Medic for them; when asked who their last two players will be, KnOxXx claims that with his superior strategic maincalling they will not need more than 4 as Zebbosai can switch betwen Roamer, Pocket and Scout as needed. CC's scout, captainthecruncher, approves of this toxicity.

Minutes before the game begins, Team Fortress 3 is released. Playoffs are delayed until a bug is fixed which causes Pyro to still be in the game.

#755 The Gun Mettle Update in TF2 General Discussion
PyromancerDo you think the new Powerhosue map could ever be used in competive? I don't think hl would be good for it but maybe 6s?

I think 3CP is already played in 4v4 so maybe there? As for 6s, I think 3CP would be hard to find a sensible ruleset for with how common mid-to-second rolls are. Combine that with how little space there is to cover between the mid and last points on Powerhouse and I feel like an awful lot of rounds would be literally won by the midfight. Perhaps a specially-designed 3CP map with more distance to cover between mid and 2nd could work in 6s? It's an interesting thought.

#76 TF2 update for late 7/3/15 (7/4/15 UTC) in TF2 General Discussion

Random late-night/early-morning thought - while I personally think it's certainly worth giving the medigun change a little time window to play itself out and see how it goes, what would people think of something like mediguns always dropping with 0% uber, except in the event of a non-suicide uber drop in which case the medigun drops with a flat predetermined percentage of, say, 20% or 25% or so?

My logic here is that it would remove this potential for ridiculous winner's advantage snowballing and juggling nonsense but still give a small advantage as reward for dropping the med like Valve seem to be intending (as I absolutely agree personally that getting a full uber for dropping the med is by far too significant of a reward) which adds some potential extra momentum to getting a med drop but doesn't just give basically guaranteed round wins

EDIT: Extra note, this would also hopefully mitigate the problem of constant pussy-popping instead of milking; while no medic is going to take the risk of giving the enemy a free full uber on top of the one they already have because it simply is never worth the risk, giving them 20% or 25% might quite often be worth the risk of milking.

#751 The Gun Mettle Update in TF2 General Discussion

UNNECESSARY WALL (it's late at night, I've finished my due Saloon writeups and I'm bored out of my mind)

After having some initial time to play around with some of the changes, some thoughts for anyone insane/masochistic enough to read all of this shit and care:

Picking up weapons fits into the game surprisingly intuitively. Opens up some cool new possibilities in competitive (this whole business of mediguns dropping their uber % is a potential concern but equally is potentially very cool, we'll have to see how it plays out) and being able to just pick up some dude's Force-a-Nature or whatever in pubs if you want to piss around with it instead of what you're currently holding is super fun. With that said, the pickup interaction boxes or range or something needs to be tweaked because right now picking them up in the heat of battle feels kinda unresponsive and clunky.

Black Box isn't quite as dead as first anticipated but still has kinda been slaughtered in cold blood. Nowhere near the weapon it used to be; sure getting +20 from a close-range direct is kinda sick but not worth the splash tradeoff at all and it feels like a much worse weapon overall, which really does not feel like it was necessary to me. Would like to some tweaking back in the other direction, if not a revert.

New Air Strike and Liberty Launcher are ballin' out of control, especially the LL. Looking forward to using them in scrims and hopefully matches if they remain on the ETF2L whitelist in the long run. 5 rockets is very reminiscent of the old Cow Mangler, being able to jump and still have a "full" clip to work with, but without the shitty reload speed and hitting directs with the LL's faster rockets is easy enough that the damage reduction is somewhat mitigated. Combine that with having the option of being able to jump more with a banner or shotgun and this thing is seriously sick. The Air Strike, meanwhile, is actually quite useful as a weapon to, y'know, actually kill things with now and is no longer almost impossible to get initial momentum and snowball with as the weapon was designed to do.

Escape Plan changes are cool, having a more ammo-efficient option for building as Solly is convenient for the pocket and maybe lets the Scouts play together on flank more?

Reload bug aside, Shortstop having its own ammo pool and now having the extra utility of being able to surf rockets halfway to the stratosphere at will makes it potentially pretty viable? Can't really comment on how effective it is as a roamer with bad hitscan but my team's Scouts are reliably informing me that it kinda wrecks house. Fun weapon to use at any rate and I look forward to convincing my Scouts to try my new strat of running Shortstop to mid to instafuck their Demo then picking up the other team's scatterguns.

The previously monumentally pointless Panic Attack at least feels like a useable weapon now which is neat, in fact I'd even go as far as to say that if you could get used to the unnecessarily awkward mechanics it's actually reasonably good, but christ that thing needs to have the ability to hold the stored shots for a few seconds before releasing them because the current mechanics of it just feel unwieldy and "off".

New minis get fucked super easily while building, new Loch-n-Load still feels kinda useable without being insane. Good good.

Engie changes are nice. They feel good, the class is less tedious to play. Fun stuff.

Detonator and Scorch Shot both feel considerably better now, especially the SS which has gone from worthless to pretty cool.

New Quickiebomb feels REALLY damn good. Like, that's some serious damage. I'm not a Demo main so I can't really comment on how effective it really is or isn't but I get the feeling it'll see some serious and frequent use. Iron Bomber changes are cool, haven't had a chance to try the Bootlegger yet but I fucking love the idea of it.

Spy changes are pretty sick, the 20% damage reduction is warranted I think and lets Spy get away with a tiny bit more without being able to just straight-up get away with anything. DR changes I can't comment much on as someone who barely uses it but on paper they seem good and having played with it a little bit it still feels at least useable and not completely killed, but I'm no Spy main. Also the new Big Earner is super good fun.

Baby Face's nerfs were completely justified and the boost reduction on taking damage + more boost reduction on jumping is exactly what I wanted to see, to the point where I even sent pretty much that exact suggestion to Valve via the suggestions form thing on Steam a few months ago (not that I'm delusional enough to think that I affected anything lol, I doubt it was even seen and I'm sure plenty of others suggested the same since it seems fairly obvious)

Pretty Boy's nerf was much needed, that thing was way too good and weapons that are equipped purely for the passive buff they give and are never actually used as weapons are always cheesy. Fan o' War buff is pretty cool but I don't really think it makes a huge difference or anything.

Sydney Sleeper OH GOD KILL IT. Using it briefly in pubs was hilarious; quickscope quickscope quickscope quickscope and every hit on someone after the first does like 64 damage. Feels like it'll be super annoying to play against.

Hate Snowplow, don't like Powerhouse particularly, kinda like Suijin except for the hilariously badly thought-out sightlines everywhere, the fact that Snipers can hide in trees and the fact that like 70% of the map is a roof, never particularly liked Borneo but it's cool that the creators will get some love.

Haven't played with any of the rest of it yet, but do have to admit that while some of the skins look godawful the majority of them at least look passable so far and some look pretty cool indeed. Blasted Bombardier sticky launcher in particular looks great, considering getting one.

Overall, despite being buggy as shit (which is slowly getting fixed - thanks Valve!) this update is excellent IMO and certain aspects were handled absolutely flawlessly (e.g. ammo boxes having physics)

THANK YOU VALVE

le wall has departed

#12 Gun Mettle weapons found in files - workshop? in TF2 General Discussion
yttriumIt's fake until they show where in the files this was added.

Entirely agree with everything said here, but whilst I don't think we should trust this unless sources can be cited, I think it's just nice to know what we're dealing with in the event that it happens to be real, particularly with the Afterburner being present in the "leak" and also teased on the update page.

After raiku selflessly scoured the Workshop to find everything, the final tally seems to be:
Two sniper rifles
One rocket launcher
Two Engie primaries
Two Engie pistols
One multiclass shotgun
One knife
One kukri
One Demo melee
One minigun
Three (!!!) mediguns
Two needleguns
Three flamethrowers
One Pyro shotgun
One Pyro melee
One sapper

As yttrium very eloquently and correctly says, leaks like this are always fake until proven real, but if it happens to be accurate we're dealing with some serious stuff.

#10 Gun Mettle weapons found in files - workshop? in TF2 General Discussion

To the people saying this was confirmed fake, etc. - this may be correct, but unless I'm very much mistaken, in the picture on the update's Part 2 page, look at the weapon pile in the bottom right corner of the "weapon balancing" picture; is that not the Afterburner (the green flamethrower) there in the pile? The tip/nozzle/whatever of it is quite distinctive and it looks identical.

botmodei hope these are just reskins
god we do not need new items there are too many terribly designed/balanced ones already

I kinda half-agree; I don't think that we don't need new weapons at all, but I agree in the sense that I do think it would be pretty silly to add new weapons with so many that are still imbalanced, either in being underpowered or overpowered or just straight-up conceptually flawed.

Once a lot more rebalancing has been done, bring the new weapons on, would be great, but while so many weapons still need tweaks that should be the focus for sure.

#1 Gun Mettle weapons found in files - workshop? in TF2 General Discussion

Figured the easiest way to do this without hijacking would be a new thread.

In the main Gun Mettle Update thread 89zombiez posted about new weapons found in the game files (EDIT: it should be noted this has NOT been confirmed and sources have NOT been cited) with the update:

http://i.imgur.com/svsFoxG.jpg

It's almost certain all of these are from the Workshop, does anyone have Workshop links for all of these so we can figure out what some of them are?

The ones I've gotten so far:
Multiclass shotgun
Engie pistol
Engie shotgun(?)
Sniper rifle
Sniper rifle (no seriously)
Sniper kukri
Pyro flamethrower
Pyro shotgun
Medigun
Medigun
Medic needlegun
Spy sapper
Spy knife
Demo sticky launcher
Heavy minigun

These are all the ones I could find myself; anyone got the rest?
