#48 books to read in TF2 General Discussion

I like Dan Simmons and Robert Heinlein right now. Also, Dune is definitely a solid book, one of my all time favs.

#31 NA Newbie Mix in Mentoring
ScholarHaha, thats cuz Vick is dumb and went over to the new map pug to bring players into newbie mix when there were already enough mentors. I am sure Vick is now aware of his mistake.

Wut.

I brought over like 3 people and they were mentors. Having mentors hopefully gives the game structure. If anyone has complaints about specific people PLEASE MESSAGE ME and I'll talk to them and then kick them if it continues. That's the only way this is going to work.

#27 NA Newbie Mix in Mentoring
Saltysally1one of the lobbies got stacked and i did too well at demo man and made tino angry so i can't play, i do talk to much though sorry vile it was literally keeping me up to play the rest of it.

Salty stop. Saying shit like "i did too well at demo man" when you are IN A NEWBIE MIX where the goal is to teach new players how to play and give them a welcoming experience to the scene, which isn't available otherwise makes me want to ban you from the group.

OhMyZeus but having the Comms there and let people know what its like being in the actual pug hearing the coach interact with the team.)

Sal and Brad/Pyyyour did that yesterday, it was really good.

#66 Growing competitive tf2 in TF2 General Discussion
brendenI may be off here, but i would say a lot of people who are interested in the scene have the initiative to find out where to go (it's not that difficult), but are apprehensive about taking that dive into the "deep end," so to speak. Organizing fun and inviting environments to ease in new players might help with that hurdle. Just my 2C.

We ran around 30 PUGs today. You should join the newbie mix group :)

#34 Growing competitive tf2 in TF2 General Discussion

I'm just going to post what I've been doing, which has been starting up newbie mixes. If anyone wants to help, just message me on steam or here or wtvr. I'll make a post sometime about them if people want, maybe an official article?

I think one thing that could be amazing for the community would be a website idea that I had a little while ago where people could gamble items/metal on competitive tf2 matches. This will push traders, pubbers, etc. into the competitive scene, and I think people will want to play a lot more if they could participate in other ways. At the moment, most people in 6v6 are just tf2 "purists" IMO.

#15 Salty Salty in Off Topic

I downvote him for a variety of reasons:

1) When he posts something stupid.

2) When he misrepresents himself.

For example, I've pugged on his team a couple times, and the first time Shwan, an IM pocket soldier who's been playing competitive tf2 so something like 3 years now was coaching us. Salty not only disrespected him and didn't listen to calls, but he also partook in absolutely idiotic plays that even if successful would not have benefited our team in any way (for example, going alone as scout into the upper lobby of badlands last when the rest of our team was defending last).

Shwan explained why that was bad and how it could easily end in losing a round, and salty did not listen and acted like his "knowledge" of tf2 was better than everyone else's.

He blatantly raged and acted extremely immature the other times I pugged with him and when he posts on the forums trying to act like he knows something about the game, or that he is a good teammate and is looking to improve yada yada, I downvote it because I feel like it is disingenuous and can possibly lead to regrettable decisions.

I will change my opinion of him if I talk to him, play with him, and see his posting and attitude about tf2 improve (like my opinion of BamBam, a known hacker, who I've talked to and played with since he got caught, and I think he's making better decisions in the community now). Just bringing that up as an example because my opinion of a person is not hard to change, just that right now, salty sally is not moving in the right direction.

I'll say one last thing for anyone reading this that is new in the community, but just understand that in a team game, you have to be nice and make good impressions at the beginning. Once you are established and have people to play with regardless of what you say, you can talk shit about whoever you want, but until you have established yourself as a good player and more importantly, teammate, you are on dangerous ground in the community and can easily be entirely shut out of the competitive community.

#4 viewmodels off in Q/A Help

What I use is a crosshair switcher.

https://www.google.com/search?q=tf2+crosshair+switcher&oq=tf2+crosshair+switcher&sugexp=chrome,mod=0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

There's a couple different kinds, so figure out the features you want and then go from there. Most of the differences are in what buttons you want to use to switch weapons. I know the one I use has mousewheel, number keys, and the lastinv or Q functionality. I like having all three available to me, so I use that. In the switcher you can pick whether you want viewmodels for each weapon slot and you can also pick FOV and crosshair.

#5 Marketing competitive TF2 to the general players in TF2 General Discussion

I agree with Atmo. I think those little clip type videos that kirby was doing for natf2 members a couple months ago are probably going to be the most successful.

I do imagine that the most popular ones are going to be SFM movies like on reddit, which is a general tf2 audience. Reddit makes it obvious what most people who like tf2 are like.
