#2 Connection Problems in Off Topic

Are you playing wi-fi? I dunno how much help I can give you, because my internet is also shit but it might be interference. Most routers operate on 2.4ghz, sadly so do tons of other appliances, microwaves especially.

Honestly, you're best off contacting your ISP. It's hard to troubleshoot with the information given.

#9 Invite Player Aliases in TF2 General Discussion
wgrillzeasiest way is to go to their esea profile and click the 'history' tab.
It gives all their previous used esea aliases, which usually includes their most known one.

Didn't realize you weren't the same guy who was trying to argue that LoL was only popular because Riot invests a lot of money into tournaments. I also don't know if "everyone knows this" because it seems that "valve doesn't care about tf2" seems to be the #1 excuse people make why TF2 isn't a huge esport. I'm also derailing this thread horribly.

TO ACTUALLY TALK ABOUT THE TOPIC.

Should be kinda cool. I always thought painkiller was a good game even if it was just a quake clone. I also cringed reading that article because the TL;DR was "fatal1ty has never lost anything ever in his life, can relic take this away from him?" - so rip him up relic. Rooting for you.

#6 Invite Player Aliases in TF2 General Discussion

The players aliasing are just basically making life a lot harder for the casters. It's kind of a lose/lose for them. For example, if someone casting always refers to mason as "spacedog" then the people who are already familiar with competitive TF2 scene will be like "who the fuck is spacedog" while on the other hand you can't alienate potential new viewers by casting with names that the people aren't aliasing by. If you're saying "mason" and he's not aliased as mason then people will just be really confused.

The players are just having fun with aliases, but for the sake of casting you should probably just stick with one alias at least for ESEA matches. I can't think of another popular game that has this problem. I alias all the time but my ESEA name remains consistent, and I think that's true for a lot of other games, I've never seen players change their names in tournaments and casted matches as much (or at all) as TF2.

If you haven't noticed I'm really bored so I'm making tons of huge posts today.

#35 ESEA in TF2 General Discussion

Our match yesterday had a few huge hiccups where everyone on the map wouldn't be able to move for a second, but besides that there was no consistent choppiness. Shutter doors seem to always be a problem on ESEA servers and I don't know why, they take 30 years to open.

scrimshawVortexthe301stspartanVortexI've never seen TF2 front paged on twitch.tv once.
lol
By front paged I mean on the "top games" list. I don't monitor twitch all the time so I can't say it's never been there, I just I haven't seen it. For example, there's a total of 212 viewing TF2 right now while even fucking Runescape has nearly 2500 viewers. Runescape. Are you shitting me?

The point is that games like SC2, DotA2 and LoL have a consistently high viewer count, and if TF2 is ever on the front page of twitch it's only because a major tournament like ESEA LAN is on there. On the other hand, almost every player from EG on SC2 and DotA2 (I don't watch much LoL streams but I know the solomid guys get more views than both of them combined almost) get thousands of viewers just from them playing matchmaking.
almost all the casted invite matches get front paged

Pardon my ignorance then. Like I said, I don't monitor twitch all the time, especially not during match time because I have my own matches. I still think it speaks volumes that during "downtime" where there's no matches happening that TF2 gets ~1k or sub ~1k viewers total and there's 17k people watching voyboy stream matchmaking on league of legends right now.

I'm not picking on TF2, I'm saying FPS games in general don't get consistent views. They get spiked views during tournaments, and even during tournaments they'll always be behind DotA, SC2, and LoL even when there is no current tournaments being streamed for those games going on.

the301stspartanOn a sidenote, I never understood why CPL pooped so much money into Painkiller. Isn't it like, more obscure than comp tf2?
The same reason LoL is popular in a way, the dev pumped it hard to tourneys and the like. Riot was just better at it.

???? that has nothing to do with why lol is popular
It has everything to do with why LoL is popular. It wouldn't have half the comp scene it does if Riot wasn't pumping cash into every tournament. If they just stopped, even now after it's established, prize pots for LoL would plummet.

I understand there's a ton of hate for LoL and I prefer DotA a ton myself, but you guys are really ignorant if you think that the only thing keeping LoL from being the game with the biggest casual playerbase and the highest consistent (by a large margin) stream viewer count are Riot hosted tournaments.

LoL is really accessible, free, and has been hugely popular before Riot hosted their global tournaments. The vast majority of people who play LoL are casual players. The way you make it sound is that LoL is like shootmania or painkiller where the only people who played the game were competitive players in it for the tournaments and as soon as there was no money in the game it instantly died.

That being said, no matter how much valve promoted TF2 it would have never gotten as much attention as LoL because FPS games as a whole target a much smaller audience. I think it was sirscoots or someone from EG who had a big "the future of gaming" video, but the main highlight is that FPS games are not taking the spotlight for stream views or the competitive scene. DotA, LoL, and Starcraft are obliterating games like CS and CoD in viewer count and I've never seen TF2 front paged on twitch.tv once.

EDIT: The video I was thinking of was this http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=pFwLqQCqWrI and it was djwheat not sirscoots @ 4:40 is relevant.

#42 What's your typing speed? in Off Topic

First try, but I don't think this is very accurate of how fast I can accurately type grammatically correct sentences. On sites like typeracer my WPM is dramatically lower because capital letters and punctuation slow me down by like 15WPM.

He got the classes right, he got the fact that arctic joe is your best player right, and he got the fact that you guys have been scrimming as a team (even if you didn't have coconut) for much longer than any other new open team right.

If you're going to say his information is inaccurate, you should probably tell him which parts are false. I don't see any.

I think Zambler has Time Warner because most canadians have to suffer with them. I switched to Century Link and have been getting random disconnects and moments of 60% packet loss where my ping is unaffected on netgraph but I warp everywhere. I just need to buy a long cable (very long) because as far as I can tell it's only the wireless portion that is the problem.

EDIT: Zambler has corrected me that I was thinking of Rogers Cable, and that he uses Telus anyways. Sorry, Canada.
