Damn, nice hussle by the Preds. Really good effort to take out such a hot team like Anaheim in the first round.
- Blues over Stars in 5: Dallas is a young, offensively minded team. The Blues are big guys that hit the crap out of their opponents. Even if Dallas takes the first, the impact of STL's heavy-hitting style is going to crush them. Plus, the defense/goaltending combo in STL will definitely match or surpass Dallas' insane offensive talent; Elliott has been a monster in most of the games, and when he is, his team continues to win.
- Sharks over Predators in 5: Predators showed a lot of poise defeating Anaheim, but the Sharks have had a long break and the Preds just finished game 7 tonight. They're going to be tired, and both teams are well-rounded teams, but the Sharks just looked so strong defeating the Kings so heavily, especially considering they had to play against guys like Kopitar.
- Penguins over Capitals in 6: Capitals are an impressive team, but their lack of experience against a Penguins team that is rolling on all cylinders whereas the Caps started to look weaker towards the end of their Philly series (the Flyers hit them pretty hard, the Rangers didn't make the Penguins get hit physically nearly as hard) will be the decider imo. I would've predicted Pens in 5, but the Capitals are pretty resilient and the combination of Ovechkin's god-tier offense and Holtby's otherworldly play (although a bit weaker considering the lack of shots Philly had against them) will definitely outmatch the Crosby/Fleury combo on the other side.
- Islanders over Lightning in 7: This is going to be a good series. Both teams are young, talented and pretty stacked on the offensive line, but I think NY's recent playoff series have left them hungrier to win whereas with Tampa, they've had numerous deep playoff runs in recent history and one has to wonder whether the hockey gods will allow this continued success over and over.
