JuiceBoxFreshman year, my GPA was at a 3.9 ( mainly B+s in everything except math). Just finished junior year with a 4.53 (Straight As and A+s) getting a 97% on my Precalc final!

Senior year is gonna be a nightmare since I'm taking 6 AP courses.

IT'LL BE WORTH IT I SWEAR.

hey man, I just graduated HS (class of '15). I graduated having taken 7 AP courses senior year and 9 AP exams total. it's EXTREMELY worth it. I'm coming into college starting with Calc 2 and Comp Sci 2, and completely skipping all natural science/ social sciences/ English req's (physics, economics, psych, lang). I'm also partially skipping the history req's (government). after I clear my remaining history requirement, I'm essentially free to take whatever classes interest me. I want to major in Computer Science, and I'm considering a minor in Math. I'm also in my school's honor college, and have to take some required course to graduate with an honor's degree.

the amount of AP credit I'm coming in with will make all of this so so so much easier. I'm able to focus pretty solely on Math & CS courses and ignore all the stupid requirements I didn't want to take anyways (more gov, more english). I'm able to freely pick my humanities and general honor's requirements, and that's dope. currently I'm enrolled in honor's philosophy.

on a 5.0 scale, my freshman GPA was 3.2 (lol)
same 5.0 scale, my senior GPA was 4.9 (LOL)

I moved into harder classes and did better because I cared a lot more and there was a lot more on the line.

you can do it man, and it's so ridiculously worth it.

some words of advice:
prepare to have a possible nightmare enrolling in some college courses. I'm technically enrolled in Calc 1 rn because my Calc AB scores haven't come in yet. as soon as it shows I passed the test I gotta call and have them put me in Calc 2.
go to barnes and noble to study for your AP tests if you haven't been doing this already. you can sit at barnes' starbucks and use the AP books they have on the shelves without buying them.
look ahead at the college of your choice's AP credits. sometimes you can skip some AP exams as you already got credit for it in a previous exam. for example, I didn't have to take the Lit exam because it cleared the exact same classes that the Lang exam got me credit for. don't take exams blindly!!

good luck mate, and again, it's worth it.

ThoxoalosecIt's an imperfect system but we do our best. The blame isn't on the drafters, it's on the drafting system. I'll talk to Kevin and the other admins about what can be done to help gamers who have been waiting a while.
I'm working on a mumble bot (for something else) that could be adapted pretty easily to give user time in channel and maybe pugs played in a mumble text message. If you're interested, let me know

This sounds insanely useful. Accept my add plz

parki waited 3 hours to get into one 3 weeks ago; granted i was in beginner soldier, but still, people start getting salty after waiting for a couple hours and watching someone who just joined the mumble get drafted over them.

#27 Newbie Mix Coaches in TF2 General Discussion
OrdooIf it's any consolation, I messaged Kevin right before mixes were due to start to message me if he was in need of coaches. He never responded, so I just assumed they were good.

Turns out he might of just missed my message, woops

All good, I'm sure Kevin was busy talking to himself on his recording BotIsPwn.

torritprolly gonna drop by with my euro OGs again, its just that last week was a bit tiring for everyone i guess

Awesome! You guys were great when you came. Don't worry about making it out each week - it's crazy to think someone will want to coach each and every weekend!

fireindaarcadeI know people often aren't sure about whether they can coach till the last minute, but is it worth keeping some sort of spreadsheet for who can coach different weeks?

Thanks for reminding me of this idea - this was thrown around a lot as a solution back when pie_hero and the others took over mixes months ago. We couldn't figure out a solid way to make it work though, if you've got an idea on the specifics of this add me and we can brainstorm it up.

GetawhalealosecDamn, and I felt alright not being around this week because of our strong coach showing the previous week.
Want to just mention again that this is what everybody thought this past Friday, and it took us 20 minutes before we could even start our first mix because of a shortage of coaches. I'm not certain that we had a true admin at first either.

Great post otherwise, good to hear that rules and guidelines will be enforced to make it better for everyone. Hoping we all continue to come together EVERY week (or as much as we can) to nurture the growing competitive scene.

Yep. I talked to KevinIsPwn about being there, so I thought I was good. Other admins are usually super beast about being there too. Not even the "head" admin is free from the bystander effect :(

Damn, and I felt alright not being around this week because of our strong coach showing the previous week. Since this post has got some good attention, I'll drop some knowledge here instead of bumping my previous thread.

To coaches: we pretty much always need coaches. Like all the time. Always. After a night of having a lot of coaches, the bystander effect sets in. People show up on a populated night like two Fridays ago and see a million coaches and are like, "cool, other nerds got this". Then each coach that helped out that week, or anyone who didn't help or maybe didn't get to help cuz we had so many coaches don't show up the next week cuz they think "ahh, others will cover". And no one shows up lol. It's a serious help to even have one coach come and coach one game.

Again, if you're interested in this but dunno where to start, add me on steam, it's linked to my TFTV account. If you're a team leader who's interested in the sponsor thing I'll be working out over the next couple weeks, also hit me up. I NEED interested teams to help get the ball rolling.

To players: If you're in open, do not play in newbie mixes. This goes for all gamers - regardless of your possible previous play in newbie mixes. You guys who have played mixes for months and are now playing in open, you ballers have graduated, you're good, haha. You've got your team to scrim with and newbie PUGs to play, you for sure no longer need exposure to the game type through newbie mixes. Spread your wings and pwn noobs yourself.

I and other admins will be making personal checks on any regular newbies to make sure y'all aren't overstaying your welcome and playing newbie mixes like PUGs. Newbie PUGs exist for a reason. We aren't here to be a place to veg out and play some dope comp TF2; we're a place to help young comp TF2 babies learn how to walk.

Nub_DanishalosecI came here to defend my boys z fighters after reading dflame's remark but all I see is proto being an even bigger idiot.

proto, if I were you I'd keep my mouth shut down tight. You've got no position to shit talk dflame when you're getting carried hard by your team just like you did in the finals last season.

aint even proto

meh whoever it is seems pretty dumb

#31 A quick word on newbie mixes this Friday in TF2 General Discussion
radiumI'm going to grandstand a bit, but there is no point in someone with mid/high open DM doing a newbie mix. You are ruining the teaching experience for players that don't know how to stop you.

absolutely agreed. message us any players with extreme DM or any straight up sandbaggers and we'll get them squared away.

Ond_kajaIt's almost 6AM, going to bed. Thanks everyone for playing, organising and coaching this event.

thanks for coming out to coach man. it was much appreciated
