bicycleforratseven though my AOTY was Chthe'ilist - Le Dernier Crepuscule
since everyone else is talking about more than 1 album i will too
EVERYTHING I LISTENED ENOUGH TO TALK ABOUT (IN ORDER)
1. Chthe'ilist - Le Dernier Crepuscule - very dark and murky death metal about things that take place inside the cthulhu mythos. has some of the greatest bass guitar in all of death metal in recent years and a very large finnish death metal influence (some go as far as to say it's Demilich worship, but i enjoy this way more than Demilich). this is my most played album from 2016. why does quebec have so much good metal... i will never know
2. Vektor - Terminal Redux - pretty much everything i expected from these guys and a little more. very detailed songwriting and fantastic openers and closers.
3. NAILS - You Will Never Be One Of Us - misanthropic metal/powerviolence that doubles as great background music for weightlifting
4. Blood Incantation - Starspawn - more good death metal with great drum production and a large US old school death metal influence
5. Vermin Womb - Decline - vocals actually blew me away. the dude sounds like a fucking monster. both entertaining and satisfying.
6. Anicon - Exegeses - this is the black metal album that stuck with me the most, i wouldnt think 2016 was too good of a year for black metal anyway
