You can't use flat textures like that because it gives you a clear advantage over your opponent. You should be playing with the same settings as your opponent in a competition.

It's cheating being able to see through explosions, not as apparent in tf2 as it was in tfc but it's still giving you a clear cut edge over your opponents whether or not it's slighter than tfc.
