#2 guy_ scout/utility looking - low-mid? in Recruitment (looking for team)
/utility

its been so long since ive seen this. welcome back!

I have no idea how updated you are on the scene but I'm going to try and help you out. The main league for 6v6 in NA is RGL. I'd say look for rgl-intermediate level((which is not comparable to esea-IM) teams/pug groups and feel out where you stand from there. Nowadays scouts play either the pocket scout role or the flank scout role which is analogous to pocket/roaming soldier. Since you're old school af playing flank scout would probably suit your playstyle more.

http://pug.tf/ is a great resource for finding people to play with.

your current non-meme loadout options are winger, boston basher, and the wrap assassin so feel free to mess around with those.

#3 tulaman lft in Recruitment (looking for team)

Tulaman plays a lot of dm and as one would expect, has great dm. His gamesense is good too but he would be much more effective if he was more talkative in game. That being said, he is totally worth a tryout and with the right team he could do some real work. Pls just bully him about talking more its literally the only thing he's missing because he does not miss.

#2161 mastercomfig - fps/customization config in Customization

Im trying to use prec 2.0.5 and I'm having trouble getting it to work. My lovely friend kevinispwn suggested I might have to install it abnormally as I am using mastercomfig.

install configurations i have tried:
1. tf/custom/prec/*prec cfg files*
2. tf/custom/*prec cfg files*
3. tf/custom/prec files as vpk
(i converted the files to vpk by using the vpk .exe in the bin folder but I am not sure if that is ideal for this)

pushing gullywash last by going through launchpad is underrated. you wont get stuffed by a pyro, you can shoot all the popular sentry spots, you can milk pretty hard and if it is trapped there's only gonna be two stickies there at most. it offers a lot of flexibility because u can go basically anywhere from launchpad quickly I don't think its necessarily the best way to push when your uber ad is really tight(might work if u double soldier it tho) but if its big and you can go for frags it is indeed a truly epic entrance to choose.

edit: oops gully not snakewater

I like koth for the lack of stalemates but I think its bad for figuring out who's the better team when its a close match up. It isn't uncommon to trade the point back and forth then luck out and happen to be the first team to reach 3 minutes. You can trade rounds back and forth and "get lucky" in 5cp too but the rounds you win against evenly matched teams feel more satisfying because you had to execute more things properly to get there. Since there are more things your team has to be good at, you're also less likely to.be evenly matched in the first place and even when you are, there's a better chance it'll be in a way thats interesting. For example, a team with really good mids vs a team with amazing last holds/transitions. I also dislike every team fight happening in the same area and I find the whole not capping so your spawns get there faster thing really annoying and artificial

My ideal game mode would combine 5cp and koth. Idk how it would actually work, but i think there's a way you could use a koth like timer/capture point system to encourage constant in 5cp style maps. It would probably come at the expense of the both teams are attacking and defending at the same time dynamic tho.

#36 Medic design opinions? in TF2 General Discussion

^i agree with this. Making the medigun more interactive is really tricky though because the nice thing about how ez the medigun is to use is that it lets you look around freely for bombers and flankers. It would be cool if medics could increasetheir heal rate by keeping the beam as straight as possible, but i could see it being really frustrating when you should be keeping your head on a swivel but theres a 1v1 in front of you and you need to give your teammate the edge.
the crossbow does a pretty good job at making you feel like your heals are influenced by your skill, but its really annoying to drop uber because someone asked for a bow. I wish you could pop uber no matter what weapon youre on. they should also make it so that if you kritz all of your med weapons are kritzed too. that would be fukn epic lmao

#2 Yoshi interview in TF2 General Discussion

Which shield do you use and why do you use that shield in particular?

Chargin' Targe is my favorite shield because it provides maximum survival. I believe sixes is a numbers and positioning game; you really don’t want to die unless it saves your own Medic, you kill the opposing Medic, or 2 opposing non-Medic classes. Almost all explosive damage is reduced to 30, and you can survive sticky traps and krit rockets/stickies, meaning you only have to worry about scouts, who are very easy to kill with a pipe. The lack of charge turn radius is an issue but I have figured out ways to slide off slopes and walls to reduce its downside, and I can predict where opponents are trying to dodge in the rare case I use it on offense. I also use that knowledge to roll out quickly for mid-fights when combined with a grenade jump. In the event a scout chases you, it is a good safety valve for escape and buying time to reload grenades. The other shields provide little resistance and focus more on charge impact damage and mobility which is not a good tradeoff. They are better for demoknight playstyle since swords and wee booties provide more speed and health replenishment.

Why do you host autobalanced lobbies?

It provides less likelihood of stacked teams. I agree with naysayers that it doesn’t always work, but it does work more often than people choosing their own teams. Some players have difficulty enjoying the game unless they get a win, so they usually stack. They are usually the ones you hear in Mumble blaming anyone but themselves for poor play and suicide the whole game for damage stats. Another benefit is usually they do not join auto-balanced lobbies so we are left with just people who enjoy TF2 gameplay whether they win or lose. I choose ETF2L because it reduces the number of offclasses allowed and adds potential for more rounds of gameplay to enjoy.

Do you have any tf2center memories you would like to share?

I miss when the site was more popular and lobbies would fill even if there were 7 active at a time. The admins didn’t take down fun maps like plr_hightower or koth_trainsawlaser. Now no fun is allowed, and too many people troll the chat and complain if there is even a slight deviation from what has been done a million times. Players were friendlier in the past; I miss that. I rarely speak in Mumble anymore because often there is an echochamber of arrogance and it is emotionally intelligent to ignore toxicity.

What are your hobbies outside of tf2?

I mostly travel around the world, but that’s been put on hold this year with the pandemic. I study new languages in my spare time. I am big into finance, trading, and investing. I write software for work and fun. I enjoy rock climbing and long-distance running; I competed in the USA 50 mile road and trail championships in 2015-16.

Any update ideas for your plugin?

Someone mentioned adding sound effects or a sound notification when they are joined to a slot. I am thinking of adding support for the Skill Index to PugChamp and also showing team win probability on the lobby pages. The extension has a link to Reddit at the bottom if anyone wants to leave suggestions.

Any shoutouts?

Just a thank you to those who enjoy the game, win or lose, and show kindness and empathy to their peers whether new or experienced.
