I've played with the maintainers of OF before and got to know them a little bit, they just wanna see more people experience an uncorrupted blend of fortress classic and fortress 2. They're also really talented and exactly who Valve strive for to entrust their production to.

I got to fulfill my role as backup for my team in a LAN qualifier match for Mad Men-AKA-nNn against Chess Club. Lost 5-4 on process, we had two backups including me playing this critical match because our pocket ragequit the game and another player ragequit over the other player ragequitting. And IIRC the other backup had to off-class because the only other option was to have me play soldier and I wasn't even that great at rocket jumping. We did well, played my best ever I think in that game. But lost, probably because effectively we had never really played altogether before like that due to really strange circumstances. And yea, team died after gg's.

MiG-21bisI am too lazy to do the math, but I think the main issue with ping is we are limited to sending information at the speed of light. I am not sure how much we can decrease ping with better hardware, it may not be much improvement at all.
in short yes; we can beam data as fast as possible but whatever is receiving the data must process it and that takes the most time; based on current technology and principles to handle that system contrivance, we wouldn't see any difference like lower pings to servers
alfaI feel like trying to perfect the art of hiding cheats in TF2 takes more time and focus than actually getting good at the game cus top players will always spot even minor fuckups in your shitty cheat. Besides idk why you'd cheat in anything below invite...
