#6 Stopgap for shitty stvs in TF2 General Discussion

Ridiculous they don't test this shit before pushing their snapshot builds. Just further indication it's all about casual and MVM.

Good luck getting this fixed soon, I can only imagine the frustration you guys are dealing with. Like Lange said, hit them up - maybe if enough people bitch and moan it'll get addressed in a zero-day. There was already a post on HLDS about it, so Eric knows... but a single message there won't always make a difference. Probably won't be addressed until Wednesday/Thursday of next week in a snapshot update.

"Rambunctious" is a really polite way to describe me... expected "precocious," "aberrant," "capricious," or even "eccentric."

klananaduder hates sparkles.

and kittens.

Haha yeah, pretty much.

Honestly, I take much more solace in people telling me they started played TF2 or got into competitive because they heard a cast I did. That's much more gratifying and rewarding than a weapon.

:D how about the little us extv clipsorters who watch hundreds of clips haha

Too bad that the rest 60 people of eXtv aren't gonna get anything

Like it matters? They're just pixels.

Send me your unusuals if they are just pixels and clearly don't matter. Community weapons show people's dedication and hard work they have put towards helping the video game they enjoy playing, which is pretty awesome. Some people are willing to pay hundreds/thousands of dollars for community weapons, but I guess they are just pixels o_0.

I don't need a weapon to qualify my contribution to the community. I don't see why it's so important. Shouldn't the work you do be good enough? If it's just to get an item, then was it really for the community in the first place? Just seems selfish to need an item to signify what you've done.

SteveCHELLO? EXTV IS GONNA BE THERE

Yes. This is confirmed. Can not comment on how sober we'll be, though. But my body is ready, hopefully my liver is willing.

#28 Quiting smoking and video games in TF2 General Discussion

Furious masturbation. If you're already shaking, you've got a good start.

Seriously though, stay the fuck away from meds to quit unless you want to start hallucinating, get really super depressed and hurt yourself or those around you. That shit is fucked up dude. Thought you were getting an e-cig? That helped me kick 12 years of smoking overnight. Stepped the nicquid down to 0mg in about a month, now I just fuck w/ the cool flavors because I like them.

#36 Yet another shooting in Off Topic

Connecticut and New Jersey both banned Assault rifles and follow the same 3-day waiting period (which allows time for a background check and "cool-down" period) as almost every US state.

You can not just walk into a legitimate store in the United States and purchase a gun on the spot. This person took the time and effort to source (or apparently steal) firearms illegally.

I used the gun-free zone as a method to illustrate how the gun control laws failed the victims.

The shooter was 20 years old, you have to be 21 years old to legally purchase and possess any of the firearms the shooter used.

2sy_morphiendI'd really have enjoyed to see him kill 20 and wound a dozen more with his bare hands. Gun availability is an issue every where in the nation no matter where you live, the northeast isn't an exception to that at all. Even if he stole the guns, the availability of the guns he stole is a symptom of a nation that has no major political party opposed to the NRA. Yes, mental health service availability is also a major issue in the nation, but saying that the discussion should be limited to that is ignorant of the last half a year (really last 50+ years) and the other tragedies that are the reason that a title with shooting in it has to be preceded by "yet another."

The laws of the US aren't the reason this person did what he did. I'd like to bring your attention to (as far as I can tell) the greatest tragedy to ever hit a school (other than Justin Beiber's music teacher tell him to "stick with it")

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beslan_school_hostage_crisis

385 deaths, mostly from explosives and 783 injured. In Russia. They have gun control laws too. Crazy people are going to kill, dude. The fact of the matter is the CULTURE of mental health needs to change in the US and make professionals more accessible and discussing your emotions, good or bad, more acceptable in this country.

Also, as a gun owner (I legally own 6 firearms) I can assure you that the process to obtain firearms in the US (specifically in my state, Illinois) is quite extensive, but not perfect. This person had a significant history of mental illness and today's events are merely summation of what was probably weeks or months of preparation.

#25 Yet another shooting in Off Topic

The argument here shouldn't be about gun control - but it will be. The argument shouldn't be about what made this person do this, but it will be. I've already heard video games, facebook and reality TV being blamed. None of those things killed those people today. The guns didn't kill those people. They didn't decide to spontaneously fire their bullets into people. A very sick person made all those decisions. It was not "easy" for him to obtain firearms. In fact, Connecticut and New Jersey have extremely strict gun control, schools are a gun-free zone and the shooter was below the legal age to lawfully own guns. We don't need more control of guns, we need to make help for sick people more available, and more acceptable. Mental health in America is a taboo subject - if you openly talk about your feelings, you think you're going to be persecuted. The law failed everyone who was killed today, but not because it was done with a gun, but because the shooter didn't get the help he needed. He would have killed today, whether it was with guns, explosives, knives, poisons, or even his own bare hands. He didn't get the help he needed - we let him down as a society - but not because he got some guns, but because the underlying reasons or conditions that made him want to kill couldn't be treated in time.

#24 Esport spitballing thread in TF2 General Discussion

You're walking a fine line, here, between sports and entertainment. I imagine this is a discussion Vince McMahon had with his dad when he wanted to take WWF national and put it on TV with Wrestlemania... you're always going to sacrifice some integrity in the name of entertainment. Far too often we get the 'media' sensationalizing sports and storylines for their own good, and I think it has an overall negative impact on the sport as well as the integrity of the broadcasters. For example... "The New Orleans Saints need to win this Super Bowl to revive the area after Hurricane Katrina." No. Absolutely not. Or even this weekend "The Kansas City Chiefs are playing for the memory of their fallen commrade." No, they're not - he was a coward and murdered his wife, the mother of his child, in cold blood. These events and their outcomes do NOT hold a causal relationship to each other, but for some reason broadcasters seem to think people are retarded and will be more interested in watching. Don't do that. It's great to have drama but do not fucking invent it - let it happen organically. If TF2 has proven anything, it's that we're split alpha/beta's and we're ALWAYS going to fuck w/ each other, but we're never going to take it too far (at least for the most part). It's great to highlight that stuff, but it shouldn't be focus of our broadcasts. Let's face it... the Saints didn't bring anyone back to life, there's still a shit ton of violence and poverty in Detroit - no matter how many games the Tigers win and that dude still murdered his wife, even though the Chiefs won - never assume the ignorance of your viewers, respect their intelligence, and you'll be fine.

#30 FULLY CHARGED Discussion and Feedback Thread in TF2 General Discussion
TwitchTVJohnWe start with 4-500, end with 4-500 every week. You guys do it right by keeping the most exciting part for the viewers (giveaways) at the end of the cast. People will stick around solely for that.

We sorta do the same thing, where we take viewer twitter questions (about anything.. usually which male would we enjoy performing felatio on) at the end of the podcast.

Fucking YES. Viewer interaction is HUGE. That's something we REALLY wanted with eXv, but the format just wasn't conducive to getting people involved. You guys have a captive audience and if you want them coming back week after week you've got to get them involved and make them feel like they're part of the show - more than just saying their name during the hat thing.[

mustardoverlorddidn't he reference TMP?

He was calling out some guy named like shanny1123 or something who said Hein had a bad attitude w/ the temp in mumble - maybe it was TMP, but I thought he was some other weird name in Twitch... still, that's fine - if that was TMP and DJC knew that, he could have said "stream chat user blahblah1234, who is Hein's teammate TMP..." Instead it just sounded like some random dude who said that and DJC cited it as fact.

AzraelAlso I'm not sure Fully Charged needs to be as long as it is. Cutting it down to a 15 or 20 minute show would help focus a lot, provided you can keep it informative and entertaining. I'd leave the 30-minute+ shows for special coverage like post-LAN or leading up to playoff season where there's lots to talk about and lots to get through. Brevity is the father of wit or however that saying goes.

This is a bit of a misconception... TF2 fans will sit through 12 hours of LAN in a day but can't be bothered to sit through an hour or two of discussion and what not? If anything, the show isn't long enough - an hour and half format would be good - 3 30 minute segments covering 6's, HL and other shit. Give everybody their time and throw in some other segments with commercials breaks between so Sal can make some of that i46 money back.
