#54 THE REMATCH IS REAL in TF2 General Discussion
MF9K was in the wrong for unpausing the match (after 7 minutes) when they did not initiate the pause in the first place. Is there a specifically written rule for this? No, and there shouldn't have to be.

Why isn't there a specific rule for this? If a team unpausing another teams pause is considered the wrong approach, this should be outlined in the rules. There should be rules for anything that is obscure or could be abused.

The 5 minute pause rule is a guideline and not one that we have ever enforced (to the minute) in any division...

This is how its written on the UGC rule page: "A pause may last up to a maximum of 5 minutes." That sounds like a pretty straight forward rule to me. Are there any other rules we should know about that are guidelines?

What should have happened is that both teams got an admin innovated as this issue was occurring live.

Yes, that would have been ideal. You could understand why MF9k might not be the ones to initiate contact, and GC were certainly scrambling around in the heat of the moment. There was no admin input during the crisis, and MF9K proceeded in the fashion that the rules dictate.

Future adjustments to the rules and procedures are needed without a doubt to stop this from occurring again. Either make Platinum Playoff matches from a certain point on have a UGC admin sit in the game as spectator, or make it so the 5 minute pause rule has an eXception for playoffs and an admin must be consulted before unpausing.

Hm... I have to sound off about this...

On one hand, I definitely understand the perspective of MF9k players in regards to their adherence to the rules, on the other hand, it was definitely disappointing for us (the casters and the audience) to get to the penultimate round, then have it be ruined by GC's sudden loss of 3 players. Dunno what happened with Acooma and Pulse, but its definitely disappointing that MF9K didn't want to concede waiting a few eXtra minutes to settle this match 9v9.

That said, I also feel like MF9k acted completely within the framework of the league in regards to how they treated the situation. Don't get me wrong, it's a shitty situation, but MF9k don't have to allow a ringer and don't have to allow a pause longer than 5 minutes. Those are the rules written by UGC. While MF9k's stance does seem slightly spiteful, they are well within their rights as they are laid out by the league.

The sportsmanship behavior clause in the rules doesn't really contain enough specifics to apply here. No racial or homophobic slurs were used and the rest of the issues outlined don't apply. Even if you feel like this was bad sportsmanship, I don't think there is a legitimate argument to punish MF9K here since everything they did was well within the rules. The banter post-match went both ways, GC were obviously upset but MF9K replying with "that's karma" isn't inflammatory enough to disregard results that were otherwise legitimate.

I feel bad for GC here and I know that MF9K dealt them a bad hand, but MF9K followed the rules to a T. Even if you consider it rude, their actions are justified under the rule-set.

UGC's 12.3 rule does essentially say they can disregard any of their rules as they see fit, but I have to admit that I am disappointed to see this rule be used under these circumstances.

I appreciate everything UGC has done to improve this season and the hard work they've put into everything, but I don't agree with this decision. They say fairness is what they're after, but punishing a team that followed the rules that as they are laid out by partially overturning a result doesn't seem fair at all.

Might vlog about it because I feel like this is an important issue for the entire community to air out, but we'll see if I have time tomorrow morning.

I'm dissapointed in how MF9K handled this and I'm dissapointed in how UGC handled this :/

Didn't use any of my quotes, but still an eXcellent article. Well done Foster.

It’s even more remarkable when considering the small number of “TF2” diehards, some 800 according to popular “TF2” figure Wyatt “Ma3la” Smith.

800? Yeaaahhhh that's a small estimate, even for just the NA scene.

Just posted this up:

Hopefully we can get some attention, support, and attendance from the general TF2 community. The sooner we raise awareness about this event, the bigger we can get.

Berry, idk where you live in Oregon, but I throw 12hr byoc LANs once a month with the Portland Burnsiders (In SE Portland). One of our regulars (keeperton) is ridiculously good at Smash, he used to be a consistant top3 finisher in Oregon tournaments. We have a projector that we can setup consoles on, no CRT TVs in the room but maybe we can scrounge one. Hit me up with a PM if you're interested.

CHEERISSJust paid. Oh yeah my first lan event! Now how do you ship your computer if you plan on flying? Any tips?

Take your video card out first and put that in your packed bag/carry on. Best tip I've heard about it.

Yyyyaaoooo!

I am going with some of the Burnsiders. We actually have paid for 1 eXtra ticket right now, and have two sets of hotel rooms booked. We might cancel one of those rooms as we just have 4 at the moment, but we might bring some other friends with us.

If you're attending, definitely give me a holler and we can meet up.
