I really want to see more streams from the top etf2l players. Sometimes there's almost nothing to watch at 3pm est while you get way more people streaming at north american scrim times.
Actually I just want to see Mike streaming himself playing pocket.
KanecoI actually had no idea competitive existed until someone mentioned it on a pub, then I started watching streams/compnews and playing a few lobbies and one day the portuguese community decided to start a portuguese league and this guy (san alex) went on asking one by one the pub players if they were interested or not, about 6-7 teams were put together by the admins by completely new players to the scene and today there are probably 30-40 more portuguese competitive players thanks to that one single thing and I am one of them, there is still a lot to explore in terms of attracting casual players, whether it is to watch streams or even to start playing competitive.
I always wished there was a way to somehow get pubbers to understand/inform that tf2 has a competitive side to it, that would be one of the easiest ways to get more people into comp tf2. I pretty much wanted to play competitive tf2 since the first 50-100 hours of playing the game but I had no idea how to get into leagues or where to even begin. So instead of trying to figure it out I kept playing dreadful pubs. After about 700-800 hours into the game I found out about tf2lobby through maybe a trading website or possibly the ugc website and started playing that. Long story short I found a team and still play comp tf2 1 and a half years later.
If there was just something as simple as valve putting up announcements for esea/etf2l/ugc games like the ones about new crates or whatever bullshit on the main menu, you'd get a lot more players willing to play comp tf2 because they know it actually exists or where to start looking for teams.
LKincheloeOkay, this is going downhill fast...
Change of subject: Does the lack of a monetary prize pool for NA Highlander encourage or discourage the perception of it being a second-tier scene in relation to NA 6s?
If you're going into tf2 competitive whether it be 6s or hl just for the money I'd say to turn around now and go play dota/LoL/starcraft/maybe csgo instead and get good at those games. Highlander in my eyes will always be a second tier thing you could play with your friends as 6s will always have lans and more competitive players that take the game a lot more seriously.
eXtine-58 frag votes? whatevs.
Just got back from work, here's some diffusion.
Marissa asked why HL gets bashed. I think that some of the bashers are 6s players that are scared of HL overtaking it. I'm not generalizing 6s players, just the minority that bashes on HL without GOOD reasons. There are a lot of logical thoughts being discussed in this thread, which to me isn't "bashing".
I think there is a subliminal thought process in some of the HL haters that are scared of the fact that HL is way more relate-able to pubbers, aka the mass majority of TF2 players. What if Valve came in and hosted a TF2-I with just Highlander? <--- that's not gonna happen, but that's the fear of the haters.
Just my opinion, don't really care about the -fragss, still gonna sleep well tonight.
I don't think anyone thinks that. If you're just a 6s player that has no intention of playing hl/never have played it don't you think it would be a good thing if more people are getting in hl? More people getting into comp tf2? Highlander is the closest thing to a pub as a competitive format so it makes sense more pubbers would play that.
Usually people who hate on hl are people who hate playing against dumb pub weapons or 24/7 heavies, spies, etc. Or they might see hl as a less competitive format compared to 6s.
It makes no sense to hate on another format if it's growing the tf2 community.
smoboi suck at MGE. i almost always lose against just random people in random servers.
whenever i do well against someone, they quit. whenever i lose to someone, they quit. whenever we have a close game, they call me "fucking shit" and then quit.
and when i join the reddit server i just end up playing pyros over and over again, or people go spy or sniper in the middle of the match and i just beat down on them without losing a point and i'm not really getting anything out of it.
and whenever i see people i know on the server i leave because they're going to internally make fun of how much i suck like (wow this kid lost to THAT guy? scrub status: scrubbaron of scrubsylvania)
MGE is hard and i dont wanna do it anymore but i never get to practice anywhere else (dm servers piss me off because they empty and become one-sided and change maps every fifteen seconds)
I don't see why you can't just mge one of your friends so you can shit talk each other in mumble while not having to get mad because its your friend and who cares if you win or lose
Kevin "fucking" Mackey
please
blam is good and munch is a cool guy
If they're put in IM they will prob win it
benk you are so good rip
Could definitely play on a playoff open team. Give him a shot
LKincheloeHmm... Maybe a nice sponsor to put a little incentive into winning Platinum..?
Considering you need to be really good friends with the IM/Main/Invite players that make up high platinum and are the teams that win plat or you need to have experience saying to these high tier plat teams that you can play in this level isn't easy at all to really get coming out of gold. You can't just move up from high gold and consider yourself already a good enough player to win platinum, just doesn't work like that.
thinks he's amazing because he captains in pug.na
aka the only way he gets to play
alosex is good and fun to hangout with
