don't slack on RAM speed, it has a significant effect on fps when using integrated graphics. At least 1866 Mhz, recommend 2133+
bandwidth is significantly more important than cas latency in this scenario
MessyRecipeThe best approach for personal servers, if they continue to be allowed, is for CEVO to develop an official server plugin that's required to be used for matches, that automatically does everything needed (not like plugin for SourceMod, but a standalone one, like SizzlingStats or the SourceMod base).
It could provide STV and stats uploading (or just use Sizzling as well for the stats, but it'd be good to only require a single addon), and have features similar to the ESEA servers, like individual players readying up and the "match is live" stuff with the round restarts before it.
This would also be capable of forcing server configuration and whitelists and such, so that teams wouldn't have to worry if the server operator has properly configured their server. This IMO is better than the current approached used in both CEVO and UGC, which requires server operators to manually keep configuration files up to date, manually ensure sv_pure is enabled, and manually execute configs and reload the map before re-execing.
This is pretty much the only way I could agree with a decision to allow the use of non-cevo servers.
shocka1And when I said it should be used once year, I meant strictly for scanning purposes (which I stated in previous posts). All year long, I make sure to update/patch my computer as frequently as possible. But a few times a year I'll run a virus scan.
okay but that means you could go for months at a time with a virus without knowing
hope you don't apply for a job anywhere that requires you to type your ss# during that period
there is very little reason not to run a free antivirus these days, it uses an incredibly small amount of resources and real time protection is valuable. like I said earlier, there has been ONCE that I got a virus but it was instantly blocked. just glad I had real time protection
shocka1kuzaAnti-virus is like the vaccine, you're completely stopping it before you get infected..
how often are vaccines used? mhmmm. About as often as antivirus should be used, only when absolutely necessary (once a year). I'm glad you agreed with me indirectly, genius...
using an antivirus once a year doesn't prevent virus/malware all year, wheras a vaccine once a year prevents an infection (from the proper virus strain) for some extended period of time (i'm not going to pretend I know how long, depends on the vaccine. the flu virus is constantly evolving which is why we get a new one every year)
one time I visited a typically safe website that was hacked and injected with malicious things and it tried to dl a trojan but MSE blocked it
my only virus experience in 10 years of having a pc
off topic
squidThere is a pretty common rule of thumb in venture capitalism - you don't invest in a 'person'.
milehighmilitia12) What is required on a personal server to play a CEVO match? How will the stats system on CEVO's website be implemented if people are playing on non-CEVO servers? Is it a possibility to REQUIRE all matches be played on CEVO servers for paid divisions such that there is consistency in server quality and SourceTV availability?
I would just like to second this one
have people been parading around begging to be casted? Most people I see asking for open matches to be casted aren't the players in that match, but rather people who want to watch it.
A really good hot turkey sandwich
harbleui played in open back before there was intermediate or main. i never expected to get respect for playing in open. i played with the goal of making invite in mind and finally getting recognized and noticed there. the only thing that should really be getting casted at all in open/im/main is playoffs. that's not to say if someone wants to cast a lower division game they shouldn't, the more casted games the merrier. but honestly its regular season and invite matches are played at a much higher skill level and more interesting to watch, if you want recognition get better and make invite. don't expect it handed to you while you're still playing against weaker competition.
to be honest, most of the invite matches this season have been boring as hell to watch
pharaohyhwhIf there's no lan or money to win, there's really no reason to play this game at the highest competitive level. Why devote a large chunk of your life to a competitive game you won't make a return on?
Fun? I know I wouldn't play video games for any reason other then fun. If I make money that's cool but its a hobby not a job
I'm assuming transfers from ESEA will play in paid divisions. I'm not sure why the skill of higher divisions would add incentive to play in the free one. I don't play esea because invite teams are good, I play esea because open teams are good (relative to ugc).
And assuming cevo goes the league servers only route, a free division could really clog up scheduling.
Why would a free division in CEVO have a higher skill level then whatever the top UGC div is?
League servers only is probably the best way to get stv, live scores, and stat integration. Also, ss doesn't do halves quite right atm, that would be nice
