it seems like with the new prize pools, there is no reason not to play invite if you are capable, so for the first time in a while, people are actively trying to make teams in invite. ESEA should of really had a better plan considering this, because ether's team was probably the more deserving and experienced out of the three.

b4nnySince Valve won't add class limits, no class limits are an inevitability in any timeline where TF2 is a healthy esport. Rebalances will be important. I know it's too extreme for ESEA atm. Still, it's not really fair to say that current class limits are more than arbitrary.
So the goal behind all these unbans is to eventually have no limits whatsoever in regards to class limits and weapons, because in a timeline where TF2 is successful, nothing would be banned?
While I agree that this is most likely true, I think it might be a good idea to discuss how likely this is to happen, especially considering the risks. When was the last time the game was updated for rebalances? How much of the current competitive community would leave if this happened? Because I would argue that regardless of how true this stance is, if it only happens 0.01% of the time while the downsides are much more likely happen, it isn't worth undertaking.

I think the problem with that is that a lot of people against unlocks aren't even going to play those pugs because they don't want to play with those weapons off the bat. I know phantom was concerned that everyone in the whitelist pugs were b4nny subs lol
That last part is complete bullshit considering about half the people who played those playtest PUGs were asked just to fill spots last second, and that "being a b4nny sub" was never mentioned. Also, Alfa is against banning weapons and played those pugs, I think all unlocks besides the main ones should be banned and I played the pugs, and there were a few people who were opposed to allowing anything to be unbanned and played those pugs, so I don't know what you are on about.
My big issue with unbanning weapons is that the argument always ends up being people saying, "this weapon isn't that aids, so we should unban it," which is a stupid stance to hold. If the goal is to incentivize Valve to update the game, the last major update was over a year ago, with no news of a new one. If the goal is to incentivize new players to want to try ESEA, open teams fell by 13 teams from S28 - S29. So, what is the goal? These weapons add nothing new to the game, so as I see it, there is no upside to allowing them. Saying that "they are shitty weapons anyways, so it won't impact the game" isn't a valid argument. If only one person is gayed because a scout got out for free or they got to jump around 10 times while no one could hit them, but there is literally 0 upside to allowing them, then it's just a net loss in the end.
Also the fact that we got to play a total of 45 minutes during last second PUGs (and that snakewater game was objectively pointless because people were just memeing super hard) isn't valid enough evidence to claim that some of these weapons are useless yet.

It depends on what you mean by "be the best" and "with enough dedication" but I would say almost 100% yes. Sure, there are some people who couldn't do it because they literally do not have the time or literally do not have the resources to compete, but those limitations aren't very harsh. People have made playoffs / won Invite on 60hz, with nearly 100 ping, with very limited time to play the game, etc. (the quality of your team definitely plays a role in that as well). You could also create stupid hypotheticals that would make it impossible to become the best - like someone who literally has no hands and has to play with his feet could only make it so far - but that's pretty unlikely. At the end of the day, TF2 is a small game with not much competition. It isn't the NFL or something where this question would be much more debatable, and even then, there's been receivers who have made the Pro Bowl despite being half blind in a sport that is 10,000x more competitive than TF2.

i tried out roamer for them a couple nights. saila and jeff are both underrated players, and mak is a great main caller. this team clearly cares and wants to well. this is a very easy team to gel with, and I think will do well next season with some solid pickups. would recommend to anybody.
