Within the sound of silence... because simon has a baby voice compared to the real man garfunkel
Garfunkel > Simon
Toonhud's theme setup is for customizing toonhud to your personal preferences. Whatever you do in it really isn't enough to release a hud, or even to put on the hud modifications thread, and that's putting it nicely. If you want to release a hud on a thread, you need to spend a lot of effort into it and really learn how to make one first (I spent over a year working on huds privately before I released something decent for example, and in retrospect I know I should've waited longer to make something better anyway).
If you're interested in making a hud, there are plenty of resources, which you can find at http://huds.tf/forum/showthread.php?tid=5 . And the hud editing questions thread can help you out with anything specific that you can't figure out. If you do want to make huds, good luck to you and enjoy. But it is something you need to put effort into before you get good results.
And if this is just a joke hud and you don't care for ever making an actually good product, then just don't. Anyone can do this and no one wants it to put it frankly.
Mercyless-so much fucking hostility the fuck is your issue idiots
if his config is crap just don't use it christ
It gets tiring seeing someone once a month who don't offer anything new to the table. The people who make notable cfgs, like chris back in the day or comanglia now, spend a lot of time and effort working on their cfg and finding out how to get the most fps out of it as possible. So you're bound to get hostility when people quite frankly don't put in either, and more often than not being just a worse version of, or even just a renamed, someone else's cfg.
Not trying to discourage you evolve, but if you seriously want to make a cfg then you need to work hard for it. If you can't offer anything new and better than what's out there, there's no good in you releasing it. There are tons of things you can do that other public cfgs don't offer; working well with -default, having a cfg for each class.cfg to exec that run commands that get reset each time a map loads, mem_compact and r_cleardecals in binds, etc. and of course just finding new commands that improve fps. And that's just a few things that I know from scripting, an actual cfg maker should have a lot more than I do. But quite frankly your cfg doesn't do any of that yet and as a user, there's no reason for me to use this cfg over comanglia's.
How can you pick "hidden talent"s (and also bape) when you don't even have legends like platinum, kaidus, mike, yuki, etc. that people who've never touched comp tf2 often know.
Anyone big in esea or etf2l get banned, or just a few ugc players?
e: a bunch of ugc players
PankeymanI forged my very own katana with a close friend of mine.

I wanted to see where you got that from was but all I could find was http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1428092&show=7950
Mad props for actually making a fucking katana
It's pretty easy to just add your own hud crosshair in. I get that it can be intimidating for people who've never done it before, but the selection of hud crosshairs shouldn't make or break a hud for anyone.
http://huds.tf/forum/showthread.php?tid=22 and http://huds.tf/forum/showthread.php?tid=23 are two example guides.
Think disquse's ahudm is going to be able to install crosshairs automatically when it's released though, correct me if I'm wrong.
If you're replacing something existing where the vmt is already included inside the vpk's, you don't need to make a new one. The only reason a mod would need a vmt is if it's going to actually change variables in the vmt.
Sv_pure is more likely to be the issue and all you can really do is make sure that's the problem and/or play community servers with sv_pure 0.
E: for fragvid purposes I heard that running sv_pure 0 after the demo's loaded works but idk I never tried
deetrBurningSmileSomeone should just remake prec from scratch
afaik Valve refuses to sign anything anymore so nobody can do that
Was there ever valve saying they're not signing anything anymore, or just we haven't gotten anything in a while?
I always thought that orange had to send in p-rec every time it was updated to get signed again but idk
lavanine-As to why the removal and install of a new antivirus is so damn big. The most common issues I personally see when people on Steam tell me their pcs are running badly is that usually there is some garbage antivirus sucking up 80% of their disk usage and 30% of their cpu idling at the desktop. As for long drawn out process for installs, Unfortunately the devs of Avast decided to include a lot of junk that are not needed and can hurt performance if not removed. You also have to tweak settings in Avast for it to optimally. As for the long drawn out MBAM bit people decide to do a threat scan rather than a full system scan with MBAM resulting in stuff still being there.
-Not sure about that, Can I get where you got that information from?
-Do you think I should move the bits about FPS configs to the top and merge the mods I recomend into the fps config area?
It might be possible to get two separate guides up at once and then link to eachother. Idk, I just think that imo as someone who knows that doesn't apply to me, it's a lot to go through before I can get things that're specific to tf2.
For the windowed borderless lag + input delay: http://www.teamfortress.tv/10068/fullscreen-vs-windowed-noborder-mode (afaik you can't disable aero/vsync on win 8+)
Mods can be kept separate I think, as long as you get more of them. 2 or 3 they could be merged, but really (and like you've said you're going to do) you should be aiming for more.
Hope to see good things from this!
Mostly skimmed but just a few things I saw:
You probably don't need to step-by-step hold-hands through avast and malwarebytes' installs. A mention of them and saying that you should scan for viruses is good, but the whole antivirus and anti-adware section takes up about a third of the entire guide (compared to the 10% maybe that's inside tf2, which is the most important part and is what people would read your guide mainly for). Considering it's a nonissue for most people, and a lot have both installed anyway, it seems like it's way too much.
And make use of [ code ] brackets imo. When you have something like:
lavanineThen you need to edit your autoexec.cfg and type the following
High quality pc -exec gfx
mid/toaster quality pc -exec stability
It can become a bit hard to know what you mean for people new to cfgs (do I put "-exec" or "exec" or the whole line or?).
Should probably look at some other fps guides for more things to mention / dl. Saying "use comanglia's cfg + 2 mostly-visual mods in the extra section" is a pretty small amount, both of fps improvements and of descriptions. Throw in some pictures, examples, and definitely more mods/cfging if you really want to set your guide apart from the rest.
Some more technical stuff but:
You should avoid using /my_custom_stuff/cfg/ to place your config files (unless you've already got a hud in there or something). /tf/cfg/ works perfectly fine and doesn't hurt loading times. .VPK mods inside custom also work fine, but for obvious reasons aren't optimal for configs. But every folder mod inside /custom/ increases load times a lot (whenever a file gets loaded in tf2, it has to see if each individual file is contained inside every folder mod. Checking for hundreds of files at once, like you do when loading maps, can become pretty bad with lots of folder mods).
Doesn't windowed borderless lower your fps and on top of that give input delay also?
IBA_Chewy2 questions regarding PrismHUD elements that I want in my current HUD (bwHUD)
-How would I add the health circle next to the health number?
-How would I add the killstreak counter?
Picture for reference:
http://i.imgur.com/pKd9NAY.png
I'm quite inexperienced with HUD editing, so I'm not sure how difficult this would be, but if anyone has the answer to either of these questions I'll be very grateful.
For both:
-copy over the materials/vgui/replay/thumbnails/hp/ folder and everything in it (there'll be a lot of stuff you won't use but there's no downside to having them so you can just take everything and save the hassle).
KS counter:
-copy over huditemeffect_killstreak.res
-copy over the clientscheme definition for the mmGenericLabel font and whatnot
Healthcross:
-create a folder named /base_customs/ inside of /resource/ui/
-copy over /resource/ui/base_customs/healthcross.res
-add the line
#base base_customs/healthcross.res
to the top of /resource/ui/hudplayerhealth.res (before anything else, even above the "Resource/UI/HudPlayerHealth.res" line)
-make sure the zpos of everything in hudplayerhealth.res is some number over 100
-move the xpos and ypos of everything inside healthcross.res equally until it's where you want
-make sure you're using dx9 if you're not already
You'd probably want to copy over some of the hudanimations too but they're not completely needed.
Looks like it'd fit more in the hud mods thread than get its own thread tbh, especially if it's not up-to-date and still has to have work done.
Does Woolen know you're releasing it also?
CaydaLooks like they just did a quick google search for the images they're using. Kind of lazy, but can't really blame them if they don't know anything about TF2 or 6s.
It would be nice to have an online resource or ZIP file of more appropriate, competitively-oriented promo images that could be sent to website staff when they are advertising a comp TF2 event. Or maybe something like that already exists? Haven't really looked.
To be fair to multiplay, it looks like they did that for each game (the only image I can't find quickly in a search is league's), so I don't think it's any particular ignorance about tf2.
Getting some good resources for things like this sounds like a great idea though. The talent in this community is too good for generic beta screenshots to be used :/
