#60 ESEA S15 NA Main Happenings/Predictions in TF2 General Discussion
PlingIn the last fully charged, cbear said that Tyrone was returning along with Mackey. Any confirmation on that?

djc said on rr's stream that djc, tyrone, dummy, ruwin, and pyyyour (on demo) were making a team for main, maybe mackey is the 6th?

#5 atf2.org in TF2 General Discussion
cinqI am working to bring back atf2.org, the whole plan is to bring a web client that is easy to use (point and click) with the PUG channels and scrim channel. I am working towards a solution and we should have the service back in a few weeks.

#25 Need help with AP US history in Off Topic
PacifistHijack and if someone is good at APWH can they help me memorize a map?

Hey. I just took my first AP US map quiz and here's a couple tips.

http://www.ilike2learn.com/ - this is a REALLY, REALLY good site for memorizing maps. I am a horrible studier, but to me, this feels as close to a fun game as studying gets. Warning, though, that it doesn't have all the major NA rivers, but it does have most of them.

-Seriously, create your own mnemonics or stupid little sayings and connections to remember chains of countries in continents you don't know. Don't use someone else's. It is so, so much more memorable than stealing someone else's. When I say stupid sayings, I mean like "The Slave River looks like a pair of handcuffs" or how "Yemen, Oman" sounds like "Yeah man, no man" with a Jamaican accent.

-If you're memorizing a world map, or multiple types of maps (like countries vs mountains vs bodies of water, times like two or three continents), don't bash your head against one map until you get it down perfectly. It's frustrating, and you'll forget it all anyway. Keep alternating between maps until you nail it.

-SONGS ARE AWESOME. I learned the States and Capitals song in like 4th grade and I remember it to the extent that I just randomly start singing it when bored in the car on vacation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNUDDaEOvuY

Seriously, don't cram it all in in one night. It's not impossible, it's just really exhausting.

#1 LFT Backup Roamer/Medic Low Open in Recruitment (looking for team)

stats.atf2.org: http://stats.atf2.org/?search=4812622

Hi, this is 4812622~, aka Numbers, aka FastCo. I'd like to backup in ESEA-O this season. I don't really have a preference to what class, as long as it isn't Scout, but my Medic and roamer are much stronger than my pocket or demo.

I've never played ESEA before, but I've played a season of UGC Steel 6s as Roamer and a season of UGC Steel Highlander as Demo. I've maincalled for both of my UGC teams (yeah, even as roamer) and I feel like I have a working knowledge of how the game works, at least. I've also played a lot of mixes, around 170ish as of today. If hours matter, I have around 4600 of them, of which 1500 are actual playtime, but I do play a lot of TF2, pubs, mixes, scrims, DM, jump maps, and demo reviews with my mentors, and I think I'm pretty dedicated to improving.

Here's my (biased) perception of my strengths and weaknesses as a player.

Generally
+ I don't rage. Except in pubs. Pubs make me incredibly angry.
+ I comm a lot.
+ I have lots of free time (available around 4:30 EST and after on weekdays, all the time on weekends)
+ I ping 5-10 to Chicago.
+ I can pay league fees.
+ Willing to watch scrims / go over demos with team.
+ I've never played extensively with the Quick-Fix, so there's nothing to unlearn.
- My UGC teams don't scrim much, but I'm prioritizing them over subbing if schedules do conflict.
Sat, Sun, Mon - generally unavailable 9:00-10:30 EST
Tues, Wed, Thurs - generally unavailable 9:30-10:30 EST
Fri - no scrim

Medic
+ I have decent surfs.
+ I have decent crossbows and needles.
= I'm pretty conservative with my Ubers.
- I miss a not-insignificant portion of flashes, although I think i'm getting better at that.

Roamer
- I have some sub-par rocket jumps. I can do single jumps, and sometimes pogos and walljumps, but that's pretty much the extent of it. My airstrafing is pretty mediocre too. I've been getting into practicing jump maps and rollouts and such more lately though.
+ Despite this seemingly-crippling weakness, I somehow manage to do stuff. I'm not entirely sure myself if this can be attributed to having enough awareness or position or gamesense or DM to compensate, but it's something.
+ I can play Spy and Pyro.
- But my Sniping is very inconsistent, and so is my Heavy, to a lesser extent.

Pocket
+ I feel like my Ubers do work pretty consistently.
+ I'm pretty meticulous in checking for traps.
- My Shotgun is very inconsistent. Some days I hit every shot, other days, none of them.
- Sometimes I abandon my Medic at times when i shouldn't. It comes with maiming Roamer.
- My airstrafing is mediocre.
- I've only ever played pocket in mixes.

Demo
+ I rarely overextend.
+ I feel like I have some pretty good stickies.
- My pipes are inconsistent / usually bad.
- I can't hit the Badlands or Process rollout yet, and I haven't practiced the new Metalworks one, but my Granary, Gully, Snake, and Viaduct are adequate, I think.

What I'm looking for in a team are a cool bunch of nice people who are dedicated to improving.

Thanks!

#73 Powerjack update -> pyro viable in 6v6? in TF2 General Discussion
TheManWithNoNamepowerjack is only kind of viable as the melee for an HL pyro -- not sure which video but huey lewis did a good bit of discussion/testing of it on his stream.

if the speed boost was passive, i think it would be a totally different discussion at this point. in all honesty, if it did not make a difference at a passive 10% increase in speed (gas jockey set + 10% increase in bullet damage downside) why would it suddenly be viable when it has to be equipped and includes a 20% increase in damage taken from all sources?

do people just not think more than 2 seconds before making posts like this? do people really believe that if pyro was not a "viable" class in 6s before, with the old gas jockey set bonus (PASSIVE +10% speed increase, +10% increase in bullet damage) -- after the nerf of the set and an added requirement that you now must the powerjack equipped to get the additional 5% speed increase (15% total speed increase while active and a +20% increase in damage from all sources) it is suddenly something that should be considered?

do 6s players believe that the new powerjack (only useful when equipped) is a better option for a pyro than the old gas jockey set (and his passive attributes)?

All sets were banned by ESEA. The Powerjack itself is not. Before the Powerjack was useless compared to the Axtinguisher. Now it's viable.

Also here is SPUF thread with a bunch of plat pyros (huey lewis, hard ass johnny, tmp, indivicivet) arguing about axtinguisher vs gas jockey. the arguiment is that the axtinguisher is better for killing heavies. there are no heavies in 6s. so the gas jockey would have been better, or so it seems to me.

Not that it matters because Jockey was nerfed into the ground, but still.

#71 Powerjack update -> pyro viable in 6v6? in TF2 General Discussion
kirbyJessikaJungPyro is only viable when defending last really... Other than that, imo pyro is shit.
It can be viable in almost every situation. It works best defending last in terms of consistency.

And let's not keep going with these "lack of mobility" statements. That's not the issue whatsoever. I mean sure, if the detonator worked like stickies or rockets in terms of jumping + self damage, then the class could end up being better (which to others means more annoying), but what the class actually lacks in threatening damage from a distance. The only time the pyro is a threat at a distance is while someone is already on fire. That requires a lucky long/medium range flare hit or the pyro getting up close, which if it was the latter, then the pyro did something wrong now that there's space between the two.

tl;dr stop with "no mobility". it's time to face the fact that the class isn't meant to have high mobility or any capability that matters @ medium/long range. a class like that won't consistently work in 6v6.

the class also neuters the other team's non-sniper long-ranged damage

don't think this is the problem

#35 @keekerdc on the Highlander Lobby Announcement in News
gummyYou know what? Why don't we play a couple pugs with these rules? If anyone is good at config coding, hit me up. I already have a server and a mumble, so if anybody could talk with me about what rules we'd implement, this could be really fun.

just decide bans in irc like you pick players, and then ban anyone who uses banned weapons

#33 Powerjack update -> pyro viable in 6v6? in TF2 General Discussion
the301stspartan4812622the301stspartanI could see a fast pyro work as an ambush weapon to snipe a confirmed QF medic though. But I think an actual sniper might be the better option there.
huh?

in my experience, pyro can destroy a quick-fix uber if he gets close, but you need an axtinguisher, which means you can't have the powerjack

or do you mean reflects or flares or something

I think a good pyro could kill a medic with flames and reflected rockets if the combo gets caught by surprise. But if anything, that would probably work only once in a game.

direct point-blank reflects are 151, which means you'd have to flame the med down before you reflected

it could happen but it sounds really, really hard

seems better against uber really, because you can stall the hell out of them once you force, unlike the qf, flamethrower penetration against a med that can't heal himself is nice too

still think the axtinguisher is better against qf
