#21 ESEA Season 17 LAN in News

Sorry for the delays, as far as I can tell, both mathsad and truktruk are taking breaks so they haven't had the time to sit down and cut VODs. They'll be up, I'm not sure when.

Your post was trying to troll. If you want to "criticize" put it somewhere else besides an event thread.

#1 ETF2L implementing a new system for divisions in TF2 General Discussion

http://beta.etf2l.org/2014/12/17/a-new-year-a-different-etf2l/

Big news from our European friends. I'll paraphrase the relevant (to NA) parts.

This January is going to mark the beginning of the biggest experiment the modern ETF2L has seen. We are excited to announce that we will be experimenting with the Swiss-Style tournament system.

...

All teams will now be seeded into one of four different tiers. Roughly speaking, Premiership will have its very own tier; division 1&2 will combine to have its own tier as will 3&4 and 5&6. Based on 6v6 season 19 signups we have produced this example division of tiers:

Tier 1 (Premiership) – 8 teams
Tier 2 (1&2) – 32 teams
Tier 3 (3&4) – 72 teams
Tier 4 (5&6) – 184 teams

...

Premiership will remain relatively untouched by this change; it will still be run in a round robin style where every team will play every other team once. However the other 3 tiers will witness the bulk of the changes because not every team will face off against one another, instead your team will play a set number of games against teams with the same points or similar match records; it’s important to bear in mind you can’t play the same team twice .

The names of the tiers have not yet been decided, we are open to suggestions but were thinking of following the ESEA/CEVO trend with Premiership/Main/Intermediate/Open.

One of the main features of the Swiss system is a stricter schedule. Therefore the week will now be divided into different segments:

Sunday – Thursday: All available playing days for the week.
Thursday 23:59: Result submission deadline.
Friday & Saturday: Days reserved for potential replays and/or matches where Match Complaints are involved.
Saturday 23:59: Fixtures created and default dates set.

...

Fixtures will now be created by matching teams with a similar points total where possible, ignoring teams that have played each other already. This is intended to create closer matches throughout the season. Another benefit of the division tier system is that there is much less seeding to do for admins which reduced admin workload and also reduces the chance of poor seedings (which do happen).

...

An unfortunate necessity of this system is the elimination of wildcards. There are no Wildcards allowed in the Swiss-System, because in order to function it must adhere to strict deadlines. However in our opinion this minor drawback is vastly outweighed by the benefits of this new system.

Another by-product of the new system will be an increase in ties, particularly in the bigger tiers. To solve this issue ties will automatically be sorted within the table by round difference (rounds scored subtract rounds conceded). This applies to all ties, including ones that affect any playoff positions. Tiebreakers will therefore no longer be used.

Playoffs would now take place in all tiers . This system makes it much easier to run playoffs in all tiers, just one look at some of the playoff trees from Season 19 should make it clear.

...

We hope we have covered most questions regarding the details, but no doubt we will have missed something out. There will be a Fully Charged EU featuring Permzilla to answer any questions or issues regarding the planned changes on Monday 22nd December.

Mad props to the admins for trying to make a change for the better.

Don't forget to tell Permzilla he's killing TF2!

MarxistPlay with your friends, if you don't have any, you'll make some. Stick with them. They'll make the game way more fun and you'll end up wanting to play video games with them several nights a week anyhow. Then branch out a bit, because it's crushing when they quit.

Definitely follow this advice. I started playing with friends, and have been doing it for a long while, and I don't regret any of the seasons I played.

I find all this talk about toxic players really silly. In my time as moderator here (i.e. I read a lot of fucking posts) and all my time knowing anyone playing in ESEA, I don't think I've come across anyone who was legitimately toxic (while playing with them). You can go to LAN in person to meet the top players of this game (in the world, mind), say hi to them and chat with them, and they don't mind doing it, even though they don't have to. S13 was the first season I played, and I went to that LAN and hung out with everyone. To say that the majority of this community is unfriendly is literally incorrect.

#60 ESEA 17 LAN PICTURE THREAD in TF2 General Discussion

I added all the images I had from ESEA LAN.

https://imgur.com/a/DWlUg

Any pictures of the setups were from either froyo, mix^, or eLv. I have a video of 20b's setup. I can't 100% remember whose setup is whose. This is what I remember:

  • clock had several mice on his setup
  • Decimate has the SteelSeries keyboard with the giant plastic board attached to the front
  • nice watch + orange Hien pad + Zowie FK1 was Platinum
  • indust has the KBT Pure Pro 60% with the yellow keycaps
  • shade has the Gigabyte model mousepad (as always)
  • harbleu has the Razer keyboard with a keycap msising, and the hard pad on top of a SteelSeries pad. AND OF COURSE, THE BEATS HEADPHONES.
  • arcticjoe has the Realforce Topre keyboard and the Zowie FK1. cyzer also has one but his is in the video.
  • xalox had the stock Poker 2 + Zowie FK1 and the Samsung Galaxy phone by his monitor.
  • enigma had the noppoo choc keyboard + the blue snowball + the Hien pad and his trademarked Xiaomi Pistons. I don't remember whose hairy ass arms those are.
  • I'm pretty sure b4nny had the Tt keyboard + PureTrak Stealth and the G400.
  • I think lansky had the CM Storm Tenkeyless and the Zowie FK1.
  • duwatna had a fancy setup with his white/blue keycaps and the DeathAdder, as well as the blue snowball.
  • blaze had what I think is the Leopold with some keycaps, and the white mouse. I think it's a Zowie EC1 or EC2.

I have a lot of short video clips coming in, I'll try to get them up ASAP. I'll post again when I do.

#67 stabby-stabby leaving TF2 in TF2 General Discussion

Hey stabby, if you're still reading this, it was really nice to meet you the one time we were both at LANFest. You seemed like a really cool dude, and by all accounts I've heard that's still true.

I hope you get through whatever you need to deal with, best of luck.

#26 Open team LF Scout + Roamer in Recruitment (looking for players)

Freddy and Clor are the most un-weeaboo like people I know so maybe they'll counterbalance how much weeaboo-ness is on this team??

Welcome to ESEA Open: Laboratory Edition.

#6 row LFT Demo Open in Recruitment (looking for team)

I've never played with him, but it's obvious that he cares a lot about the game. Whenever we're short on casters or looking that way, row's been ready to step in. I'm very excited to have him cast next season. He's left nothing but a good impression in the time I've known him.
