overlay that actually fucking works
simple
server connection (not some dumb invitation shit)
faster
doesn't fucking feast on resources

discord

ease switches between channels
wayyy better text chat
easier to connect with your lads
essentially just newer feature/ui wise (videos, pictures, private calls, friend system, etc.)

my take: mumble is always going to be superior for gaming, but discord is hella nice to chill with friends and easily switch between channels. a big one is that the discord overlay just sucks imo (it's always delayed and looks weird) while mumble is easy to identify the person talking. discord is definitely more like skype, tho, and i would never use skype as a video game communication service. mumble is just simpler which makes it better for video games but not much else.

my team choice is so bad sometimes; i've literally left multiple placement teams for shittier ones because of my stupid gut feeling. i just wish i stayed on those teams.

also, i tried to lft as engie when i was new to the site. someone also linked me cookiejake as looking for one and i tried to add him so i could "try out as engie." very naive.

also worth mentioning (which is not a tf2 thing but still hella embarrassing) is this: when i was still a fat boy in high school freshman year, i was playing ultimate frisbee. my pants must've been too tight or something because, while i was running, they straight up ripped at the crotch. basically, i was stuck for the rest of the day with crotchless jeans. that wasn't a good look.

don't play sniper servers; they make you good at shooting (mostly preoccupied) snipers but mess up your aim with most other classes from my exp.

everything else here is solid advice.
