PheeshpissheadI've managed to actually get into the tutorial. The game looks and feels better than TF Classic, and the tutorial is pretty decent, and the game even remembered some of my bindings. but I still can't get into an actual game. The problem is I alt-tabbed whilst it was downloading a custom map and can't get back into it.
What is the error message you get? When you launch it and go to join a server and don't alt tab what does it do? Just sits while trying to load a map?
I didn't get any error messages, it just froze up. I managed to get it working in the end, and even get into an actual game, albeit in windowed mode. The game is fun for a while but nothing special. The movement is fun, especially things like conc jumping, flame-thrower hovering and strafe-jumping, but it's like Quake Live, in that it's fun to move around but the game itself isn't that interesting.
It's like they've built a game around the worst maps and gamemodes in TF2 like 2fort and dustbowl. Even cp maps make you wait for a setup time on every single point. I miss things like damage numbers/sounds, plentiful health kits and shotguns that are worth a wank, Weapon variety too, TF2 has spoiled me on that.
My favourite mode is the attack/defend where you carry the flag onto the point. It's more exciting than the TF2 a/d because the round can be won in an instant even if there are twelve heavies on the point, just a shame about the setup times. I think if I put time into learning the nuances of the jumping mechanics I could have a lot of fun as medic or scout but it doesn't seem worth it for a dead game.
The hilarious voiceovers in the tutorial are worth the download alone though.
