I don't know about an eSports bar, but I do know a bar opened recently (Ossington I think?) that has consoles and whatnot just set up randomly.

Sorry for a post 7 pages in that is solely reflecting on the original YouTube link, but that's what I'm doing.
Having been one of these guys that poured a great deal into competitive TF2 and then burned out, I'm sorry to see others reach that point. I'll be the first to say what I did in TF2's youth is dwarfed to the nth degree by what Lange (and eXtine, and enigma, and so many more) have done and continue to do - but for whatever my small role was, it still sucks to see others push so hard for something and eventually come to realize it's not going to be what you wanted, as I did.
TF2 will never be what Dota 2 is, or what even CS:GO is, or SC2, and so on. More than anything, I feel like TF2 was a victim of the times... so many companies had much greater budgets for the niche PR market that is competitive video games pre-2008 (ie. the recession), and had this game existed in 2003, who knows... maybe a CPL TF2 tournament (or whatever the equivalence) could have existed. But it's not to be.
Who knows what the landscape will be when TF3 rolls around (which, knowing video game company's propensity for sequels, is bound to happen), but Lange's view on what Team Fortress is in its current incarnation is right on the money. And that's a hard pill to swallow.
Pre-flame edit: And yes I realized most people posting here have no clue who the fuck I anymore, and I will quietly disappear again.
StPatrick... TF2 is just their red headed step child and most likely just another way to fund the CS pot. I find it really hard to believe that they don't benefit from us in any way. If that's true then they are terrible businessmen. Our game doesn't fit there, its just easy for them to run because it's a popular source engine game...
Not to harp on the issue because it's been said a few times in a few places, but they really don't. The "business model" is irrelevant, ESEA continues to (or has up to this point) support TF2 as good will for online gaming in general, and probably because it looks good for them to in Vavle's eyes (which is an important relationship).
While I don't speak for Torbull, my impression was he supported TF2 because a) he actually enjoyed the community and the competition, and b) the stream numbers for LANs were impressive enough to keep it around.
While I understand arguing for principles, arguing about "so-and-so isn't getting my money" is a little silly. We're talking about, what, a few cups of coffee a month? One ore two pizzas? Hell, you can drop more at the bar in one night than you can in a calendar year for both leagues combined - and if you're budget is that strained, you probably shouldn't be playing in either.
In that context, suddenly the idea of supporting both leagues and figuring out which one is best for the community becomes a lot simpler (setting aside those with time constraints).
What an interesting turn of events...
Best LAN trashtalk was ruwin calling someone a "snowflake".
Ahh, lame - oh well :/
grillzrkI might drop by if I can get my shift at the bar covered that night.
where do you work?
Fionn MacCool's at University & Adelaide - though if you walk in and ask for "rk", people will look at you weird ;)

Enjoy the weekend all, I sadly have to miss this one, being on the other side of the world and all.
harbleuholy shit long break. i guess its probably to give EU teams time to book their flights. hotel does look nice im excited
I believe it was a venue issue this time around - it was always going to be a little more delayed because of the EU tie-in for CSGO, but venues around the beginning of April were tough to come by, and Torbull didn't want to settle for a lesser venue (*cough* Sterling).
Details still to come on the casting thing, djc or cbear or enigma probably know more than I do at this point ;)
I will sadly be in Bangladesh during this LAN, so enjoy yourself boys.

Un. Fucking. Real.
kuzaThat would be a huge mistake. What if someone leaves their team 6 hours before a match? The team would have no idea. I hope you would at least make it visible for the team players to see this info without the 6 hr delay.
Yeah, you're right, and it's set that way specifically for paying purposes, according to Shooter. Oh well.
mustardoverlordI think it shows on your roster page, just not the player transaction page
Welcome to a post from page 1 ;) hehe
Phaser-the guy who chucks everyone else under the bus after a loss, except himself
-the guy that just can't take losing, and rage quits mumble and possibly the team
-the guy that complains that he can't play TF2 if his ping is higher than 30
-the guy that blames his poor play and or losing on a higher ping server (same guy as above usually)
-the guy that takes video games so serious that he ruins everyone else's fun
-the guy that's ALWAYS the fucking last to join the server after everyone else has been there for 10 mins
yea fuck those guys
I feel like you have someone specific in mind that incorporates all of those things, lol...
