MasterKunirock-There's no way on earth any 5$ usb audio card could be better than any motherboard built-in audio card
In the picture you posted, the traces from the audio connectors are running all the way across the motherboard to the DAC and filtering stage. This is how noise is introduced. The USB unit probably has worse filtering (with the cheap surface-mount non-elecrolytic caps), but it will probably have a much lower noise floor since it's hanging outside your case.

you know anything about shielding? that's the thing it's used to try and avoid those problems, also don't forget one is built-in, the other one is an addition, something that passes through another BUS (usb), try and think about anything that comes with that.

Knuckles_You can't argue with results.

bye rock glad to see you're leaving this thread

this is the easiest way to show you what i mean, after this im done, stay in your ignorance and presumption, i don't care

MasterKuniSetsulGuys, the mystery is solved.
He is salty because he bought a bad USB sound card.

I've read horror stories on head-fi where one of those bargain basement ebay USB sound cards was so poorly engineered that they blew up somebody's headphones. Would not recommend.

the thing is most of those are like that because they're not engineered to work optimally and give you hd audio, they're just made to be used in emergencies or temporarily, oh and anyway my usb audiocard is this one which is probably one of the best you can find around at that price

CHERRYBut main purpose of sound card is processing sound while motherboard does everything, surely it is possible they put something worth more than 10 cents in a card costing 10$?
Not to mention that most people connect 10$ speakers to their motherboards so there's no reason to get something better in stock option.

What are you talking about, the motherboard itself doesn't do shit, there a section which is related to the audio part, and everything is done by that

that is my motherboard, and for the record i use a pci-ex audiocard

mathsadrock-Stop talking only about chipsets, it's not the only part that countswhat part do you think the actual sound is processed on, thats LITERALLY the part that differentiates sound cards dude.

no it's not, please if you don't know what u're talking about, you shouldn't talk about it about it

this is my 5$ USB audio card

SetsulYou can't be this dense.

Your argument proves that the steel rims on a 20k$ car are better than 400$ alloy rims because 20k > 400. Doesn't make much sense, does it?

The ALC898 is on the Z77 Extreme4 aswell. 135$. The Z77 chipset alone costs 48$. And then there's still a lot of other hardware you need for a mobo.

Believe it or not the budget for audio hardware is higher in a 5$ USB sound card than in a typical motherboard.
I'll do a teardown if you send me one.

Stop talking only about chipsets, it's not the only part that counts, on those usb things there's no space for anything else but the chip, the 2 audio jacks and the usb plug, you don't get it, do you?

Setsul#34
Do you really think they'd put 1$ audio chips on a 20$ mobo?
Do you really think the chips on high end mobos are worth more than 1$?
Let's test your theory:
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77%20Extreme11/
400$ mobo
Realtek ALC898.
Let's how much that thing costs:
http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/-New-Original-ALC898_60206816836.html
0.1$
10 cents.
10 fucking cents.
And you're telling 50+$ USB sound cards can't beat that?
What kind of magic did Realtek put in there?

I should probably stop posting, if you still don't get it you're either beyond any help or trolling.

It's not only about the chipset they use, what are you talking about, also if that costs 10 cents on a 400$ dollars what do you think they'll put in a 5$ thing?

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/DZ92-External-USB-2-0-to-3D-Virtual-Audio-Sound-Card-Adapter-Converter-7-1-CH/1199069_1924531331.html

What you're saying is that this thing up here, is probably better than the built-in audio chipset of any motherboard, included that one you posted. Do you actually know what u're talking about?

do we want to discover together what's in that thing?

no, just to show that what's being said is bullshit

SetsulAlso good luck finding a PCI soundcard for less than 5$.

EDIT:
#31
Of course there is absolutely no way a 5$ USB sound card can beat a 1$ onboard chip.

PCI sound cards are obviously more expensive because they are better, not because a PCB three times the size is more expensive to manufacture.

what motherboards are you talking about? 20$ ones? pretty much every decent motherboard ~70$ has a decent onboard audio chipset, or at least better than pretty much any usb audio card existent. Also the PCI audio cards are surely better, but also because the PCB three times the size allows the manufacturers to add filtering and other stuff you cannot do on a few cms x few cms PCB the usb audiocards use, that thing you could do on a motherboard.

CHERRYUSB can't be worse than integrated :O
Still don't understand why would anyone recommend USB over PCI?

usb can't be worse than intregrated? are you sure? i say they're almost always worse than integrated chipset

because pci ones cost more

Knuckles_Can someone recommend a cheap usb sound card? Or explain the benefits to using one for audio input to some of us plebians (^_^)

to be honest i don't really think using a usb audio card would be better than using the built-in one, some of them might be bad, but most of them are always preferable to any usb crap

ProSkeezSetsul is right, the Realtek chips are pretty bad.

You can get around it by buying a cheap USB sound card for $5. It'll remove all the white noise in your ModMic or any analog mic and make them much louder.

not that bad

bearodactylwtf are you even trying to say
the snowball is the same price and picks up tons of background noise
zalman is cheap but not as good quality
you can't say he is factually incorrect in his opinion (that its a good value for the money)

never said snowball or zalman were better, actually the zalman costs 10 times less and it's not that worse, i'm pretty sure there are mics which are as good as that and they probably cost far less, that's what i'm trying to say

the modmic would've been good for the money if it was like 20 dollars, or something around that

downpourpeople need to understand that mechanical skill isnt something you want in a game if you want to make money
people dont wanna spend hours grinding a game to get good aim and movement, they wanna play a game to have fun and feel good and put as little time into improvement as possible.

what ruined the world of videogames in a nutshell?

STOGErock-are you for real?
???

Not allowed to recommend a product I like or something lol?

you're allowed to do whatever you want, also say whatever you want, but what you said there was just not true, 50$ for such mic isn't good, the opposite, you can have something with the same quality for much less than that
