I hope Valve changes it to where maybe you can give kritz, ubersaw, escape plan, and ubersaw for free and replace the milestones with things like Crusader's Crossbow(or free?), Vitasaw, Black Box, and etc.

Offtopic but I can see there being a competitive starter pack with relevant unlocks being available free/cheap on the store/a reward for playing x matchmaking games or whatever. Although I wouldn't count on valve just accepting the current meta unlocks as the essentials but rather encourage players to use various/broken unlocks as they said they're trying to use matchmaking to gather balancing data.

alfaMGE is probably the worst way to improve as the scenarios you get in MGE happen 2% of the time. Pub server is probably way more useful because of how much shit is going on if you want to learn a new class.

Personally when I wanted to get better at sniper/demo a few years ago I just grinded goldrush pubs 24/7.

You play mge to practice the skills you're not already practicing from playing tf2 the entire day, every day. People always seem to think people who MGE don't actually play the game.

Yes, they even gave him a name; this makes no sense, his lore page needs to be rewritten now?

REAL NAME: UNKNOWN
AFFILIATION: UNKNOWN

Also lol@blizzard mocking their customers at the end of the trailer

waits...and waits...and waits

Not too afraid of the skins, but I think there will be an option to deactivate them.

Wat, did they just reveal reaper before the game even launched?
Lmao Blizzard, what are you doing?
Also agree, the skins could be terribly confusing once there are more heroes in the game. They're not as identifiable as tf2 characters. Maybe they'll be optionally deactivateable clientside.

MagikarpPumhttps://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/3rpf23/matchmaking_mode_disables_random_criticals/That stuff is hilarious, but setting that aside, I just noticed that the discussion of how MM is going to be hasn't been brought up, or at least I haven't seen much discussion.

Not talking about 6v6, whitelists, and etc., but more on how the game will be when people enter the server. Since there are no class limits it seems, it is a wonder how people will first start out in the selection of their class or if someone else on the team wants them to choose a certain class. In Dota 2, a team usually wants to consist of a mid, carry, offlaner?, and like two supports. So generally the players most of the time try to discuss who goes what hero to be able to play those roles.

In TF2 with 9 different classes and no class limits, I can only imagine people who are new to competitive will have the craziest team compositions from 6pyro to 6heavy. If our 2121(2 scout 1 demo 2 soldier 1 med) meta does become a norm in MM TF2, it'll somewhat be a battle between players trying to pick the class they want. Imagine 3 players that want to play scout, 2 wanting to play demo, and none wanting to medic(which is also one of the least favorites to many). Unless I miss something in the MM threads about class selection during the MM process or anything else, I can imagine that with the current parameters and things that have been confirmed, there may be a tiny amount of chaos or conflict in the MM system.

People who refuse to play the needed classes will probably just lose a lot and stay in elo hell, while decent players move up to a level where teams communicate pre-game and people actually get to play their mains.

Why would they give a date exact to the day if they actually plan to release several months earlier?

There is nothing wrong with paying for the game. People worked to make the game. If the base game is good, it's okay to pay for it. If the bonus content is good, it's okay to pay for it. If either of them isn't, it's okay to not buy it. Don't see the problem there.

You're right, I remembered the store being in much longer than it actually was. Points still stand though.

I'm not criticizing anybody's decision not to buy the game, your finances are your business of course, but I'm confused why people are surprised and even upset by a game being sold at a regular price. 40$ isn't a high price, it's cheap for a video game. I can't see that having any effect on the competitive community. The amount of money a competitive player dumps into electricity alone to practice their game dwarfs that. If there is serious interest in a game by players who compete for money, a 40$ one-time purchase shouldn't be something to hold them back.
As for microtransactions, as long as it's cosmetics/unlock of heroes that you can get with non-grindy amounts of play, I couldn't care less.

I mean, you either sell the entire game for full price with no bullshit attached or you have a f2p game with micro transactions, both is incredibly greedy and set a horrible precedent.

Tf2 was a paid game with microtransactions for almost 4 years.

Hallowthe reasoning is that with single player story games you know you're at least getting a story. in a multiplayer-only game if you don't like it, that's it. 40 dollars gone. now considering kaneco is portuguese and thus inherently more watchful of wasteful spending it makes total sense

What? If you don't like the story in a story-based game, that's it. If you don't like the platforming in a platformer game, that's it. If you don't like the puzzles in a puzzle game, that's it. If you don't like the multiplayer in a multiplayer game, that's it. That argument doesn't make any sense. If you don't like a game, you wasted your money on it, regardless of what game it is. I don't think Portuguese people are more inherently thrifty than anyone else either, lol.

I don't at all understand the objections against Blizzard selling a video game at a price at which video games are normally sold at. If anything, 40$ is cheap.

MagikarpKind of a good question, but it's just as he said, if OW was $40, and and free shooters like TF2 and a $10 CSGO(most played) are available, there would almost be no point. You do have a point that the game could potentially give tens of thousands of hours worth of gameplay but you never know of course. It's like why pay $40 for Diablo when Path of Exile is free and has been known to be better than Diablo and have extra aspects that Diablo never had?

By that logic, there's barely any reason to purchase any new game. There's always an older, similar game out that's cheaper or free.

Kanecohttps://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/3rpjnl/i_just_spent_30_minutes_at_gamestop_talking_to_a/

It was posted something here but was now removed by the subreddit mods.

Basically it said that the "collectors edition" aka origin edition would be $60 for a physical copy and include all that stuff like skins + poster and access to future betas, while the normal game would be $40 full price for pre-order. It included a screen for a receipt as well.

Obviously nothing is confirmed but seeing as it got removed from the mods so quickly it's kinda suspicious it might be true

Honestly if this game has a $40 entry price with microtransations later on then it's doomed from the start. When you have dozens of f2p shooters out there (like tf2) and the most played fps in the world (CSGO) at $10 then this game doesn't seem to cut it.

I was eager to try it but I'm not paying $40 for a multiplayer only fps. Still hoping it's announced as f2p or with a very low entry fee. But if its not, Im still happy, good news for tf2.

Why would you not pay 40$ for a multiplayer game that can (potentially) give you tens of thousands of hours worth of gameplay as opposed to paying 60-70 for a 30 hour singleplayer game?

it's going to be crap it's going to be crap until valve uncrapifies it. I don't think no class limits, which is what I expect valve to do, will ever work out. I care that the config is going to likely be terrible and thus no one is going to enjoy it
Show Content

I wonder where all you guys are getting your valve intel from that allows you to have such confident predictions about a game mode of which nothing has been announced.

Worst case, you can still look forward to skillfully outplaying people with crit cola/candy cane wombo combos
