#2 Unidentified network in Off Topic

Ask all your neighbors if they also use powerlan. If they do and they're on the same powerline, this will fuck up your internet. This happened to me and fucked my internet for a month or so and no one knew what it was until I found out.

#2 Quickplay Issue in Q/A Help

Know it, don't know how to fix it. Can't offer help for the broken server browser. But for quickplay, I just use the quickplay server list. Almost-full servers with good ping should always be at the top.

KevinIsPwnI can't think of a time I've ever seen a sport (or any competition other than some of the esports) keep the score in the dead center..

Uhm

^Yeah, those aren't scores and will be faded out, but the point is, the main region for flat elements is the center.^

I don't know what broadcasts you have been watching, but having overlay elements on 3 sides of the screen is bad design. It forces you to look all over the place. Yes, scores are often in the corner in sports broadcasts where scores change slowly, are faded out, or aren't very important. But there's almost always overlay elements in the center. And why would moving the element make it "take up more space with less information"? There is plenty space in the top center (where nothing happens gameplay-wise) to display both round and overall scores.

mathsadthe problem is that some people want to see previous scores instead of just who's leading in the series.

Display both scores, one top one bottom should look good.

#35 Star Wars Battlefront beta in Other Games

I really wanted to like it. But...
Battlefront 2 had interesting, arena-style maps with many ways to get around.
Battlefront has huge flat Battlefield maps with half the players bunched up in one half and a good 30% chance of getting sniped before ever seeing the battlements.

Battlefront 2 had balanced vehicles you could pick up at spawn and leave wherever you like for your teammates to take, and you could switch to gunner/driver depending on your and your copilots' skills. There were tons of different vehicles that all played completely differently, and were different for each faction. Literally dozens of different vehicle playstyles to choose from.
In Battlefront you pick up an upgrade to get teleported into a fighter that's only good for taking down other fighters until you get shot down.

In Battlefront 2 there were tons of ways to make creative plays with your vehicle, like getting an escorted bomber over the enemy's player or vehicle spawn. You could also steal the other team's vehicles and troll noobs by pretending to be on their team.
In Battlefront you just shoot at people until you get destroyed.

In Battlefront 2, vehicles of all sizes had strengths and weaknesses against other vehicles and different types of grenades and bombs. ATATs and other large vehicles felt like a genuine threat but never OP. You could take down EVERYTHING on your own if you had the skills.
In Battlefront, the ATAT is Godzilla and can't even be attacked until an objective is reached, giving everyone inside effortless free kills for half the round.

In Battlefront 2, classes had a tf2-level of diversity, each had a unique feel to it, and unlocking commander classes felt genuinely rewarding. Skills at your class mattered in a way that I've only encountered in tf2 since.
In Battlefield, everyone runs around with an SMG, a sniper rifle and a jetpack.

Battlefront 2 had a great minimap that allowed your team to actually coordinate.
Battlefront's minimap is garbage.

Lastsly, Battlefront 2's CP game mode is simply superior to Battlefront's confusing A/D system, which, coupled with the atrocious minimap, leads to everyone running around without a clue.

These are just a few select points off the top of my head; there are more. But from what I saw, I really wish they had just remade Battlefront 2 instead of Battlefield 3.

EDIT: Oh right, and in Battlefront 2, Heroes were awarded to top players, a great mechanic to actually encourage you to play well. In Battlefront, it's just an upgrade that's an inferior version to the ATAT upgrade. It just gives you a little fewer free kills.

#9 Valve in TF2 General Discussion

I see, you can still "bookmark" them by manually saving their IPs. Your problem reminds me what happened to me a while ago, but it turned out that that was due to my internet being completely screwed (powerlan getring mixed with the neighbor's powerlan). You should check if everything is fine with your internet otherwise and if the necessary ports for tf2 are open.

Maybe the update has altered your search preferences? Make sure that valve servers aren't being filtered.
But the fact that you can't connect to them might indicate a port problem. Is it always the same servers you can/can't connect to? Have you tried faving a server you can connect to and try again the next day or after a reboot?

#1 PVHud broken on snowplow? in Q/A Help

Just had the first opportunity to play some gun mettle; my HUD looks broken, I don't know if it is on other maps too as I didn't have time to play any more, but this definitely looks weird.

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/440574362337159474/EFCADD4FD8CE1927F8DF7A5F904D5ED7C5AD197F/

Anyone else experience this?

I know PV is ancient, but it has always worked fine for me and I like it. Would like to know if other HUDs are affected too and I can expect it to be fixed or if I should switch HUDs.

eXtineThey better utilize that weird hilt in a fight scene otherwise it's definitely just kinda stupid. Show the practicality of it and I'm on board.

Otherwise shit looked dope. Definitely more hype than the Phantom Menace trailer O_o

it's a really poop design in terms of how much it would limit your agility with the thing, but it protects you against getting your hands cut off which I heard happens sometimes in the SW universe... also who says you can't turn the handles off?

#16 tf2 is broken. in Q/A Help
are you connected to a gateway (router/modem combination), or are you connected to a multi-part system (like a router that connects to a modem, or a switch that connects to a modem, etc.)?

Modem

what kind of connection are you on (DSL, Fiber, Cable, Satellite)? who's your ISP?
if DSL, how are you attenuated (VCI/VPI numbers -- this can usually be located in the advanced panel/WAN of your connection settings)? don't worry about it if you don't know; the rest of the information can help me guide you to figuring out more advanced info.

Cable, German provider called Unitymedia

what are the makes/models of your router/gateway/however you're connected to the internet?
if you can find them, what firmware version(s) are you running?

You probably don't know any of it since it's just a regional German provider.

are you wired or wireless?
what's the make/model of your NIC/wireless adapter?

Using power lan through a device called devolo dLan 200 AVPlus, firmware 4.4.0 (up to date)

what's your computer's operating system?

7

have you run any malware checks recently? if so, with what programs?
do you run any programs that modify your hosts file (Spybot: Search and Destroy, for instance)? in other words, do you run any "website immunization" programs?

Scanning regularly with Avast, no signs of infection and no

do you run any "registry cleaners" or "game boosters"?

do you route your connection through a VPN or a proxy?

no

run your IP through http://www.spamhaus.org/lookup/ and tell me the results

Listed in PBL681432, which is an email blocklist so I assume that's just because it's not a server IP.

switch your DNS to a public DNS, like google's or OpenDNS.

Will try, but first let me tell you what I suspect could be causing this. I kinda lied in the OP about having forwarded any ports on this machine, I had this problem before and tried it but it did nothing and then it went away on its own so I dismissed that. Now trying to forward the mentioned ports, I realized that with my current provider I can't, because (from what I understood) the whole network is IPv6 since 2013 and it works with something they call Dual Stack Lite and if I got that correctly it basically means that I don't really have an IPv4 and can't port forward anything. Which sucks.
I don't know why I would have to port forward for tf2 though, especially since it ran fine for years. I don't know exactly how long it has not been working because I don't play all that often but I think it about correlates with a time when I noticed that on any internet IP tests they give a wrong part of germany as the source location and Telekom as the provider, so I assume that some time ago some routing change happened within my ISP and somehow it broke tf2. How to fix it though I have no idea, I wonder if there has been a firmware update for my modem that I didn't notice that somehow changed the internal firewall settings, I will try to check that out, but if it's anything firewall-related and if I can't access the master server at all... why do a few servers work fine for me?

:confusion:

No, as I said, favorites don't work, joining by IP doesn't work, joining after friends doesn't work, quickplay doesn't work.
