#170 Windows 10 release day in Off Topic

Yeah, agreed. I was lagging the other night while playing and I was sure noone was using the net.

Haven't had the problem since I turned that option off.

#93 Funny tf2 misconceptions thread in Off Topic
PhunkMy mom took some tf2 lessons from me and she had to practice looking around and walking at the same time. Like when she walked up to a corner, she would have to stop, then turn, then continue

She really likes hearing me talk about the game and asks lots of questions but she still refuses to let me play it sometimes, even though she says the analogy to sports practice is a good one

My dad likes to cover my eyes and have me play by the force, and always shit talks me when he stands behind me to prepare me for an audience. He seems cool sometimes but I saw him tear my brothers computer out from under his desk without unplugging anything, haul it to the basement, and then destroy it with a splitting maul, so I guess I'm walking on real thin ice

holy shit make sure ur studying boi

bryanc2kaSo I heard Windows 10 is causing lag spikes and I got a link that can stop those lag spikes. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2955491/windows/how-to-stop-windows-10-from-using-your-pcs-bandwidth-to-update-strangers-systems.html

This is in the thread a few times. Good to have another source anyway, I suppose.

"why can't you just save your progress??"
"can't you just pause it and go back to it later?"

Not a misconception, but my sister is one of those people that just explodes with emotions for no particular reason. Even though we only came 4th at i49 (and i52 heh), she was in hospital and looked up the stats of the games (for i49) and was like "I saw you did the most damage and got a lot of kills". lol daww

#23 Map location nicknames in TF2 General Discussion
conductorhalf the names that aren't that intuitive at all were born out of random inside jokes that higher level people came up with and lower level players just parroted it - that's the only reason I've ever encountered for cheese on snakewater, the only reason I ever heard for people calling that area al qaeda was because wonderwall did it, and people called the area underneath snakewater second africa because of a joke post from gotfrag or natf2, I can't even remember which posts were on what forum anymore.

there are some other names that come from decals on the map that you can't see with fps configs and shit turned on - what people call shithouse on badlands was called maintenance at one point in time for this reason

maint/closet image
  • We still call this maint (says maintenance above it, has generally stuck)

  • A lot of aussies still call "Trash" "pocket"

  • Chokes are often called "corner" here

  • On gully, our team calls the place from your big door to choke elbow, the opposing 'ramp' we call ramp

some names are still ambiguous to me. An example being the medkit/ammo area from mid to yard, and almost anywhere on metalworks. I believe we called the area with medkit and ammo area near mid 'four door' (because it had 4 exits lol), and the one on last we called lobby.

#59 ESEA Allowing medigun pickups? in TF2 General Discussion
As I've actually witnessed, it's entirely possible to have your medic die late on mid, and because of forward spawning, have the enemy medic come and pick up the dropped 60-80% uber charge that was dropped due to your scout chasing the enemy med down. Now you're pretty much sure to lose the round...

I'm pretty sure there's a capture point between last and middle that can allow you an opportunity to force the other team's uber. I don't think "we have huge uber adv because their med died on mid and we won mid with our medic able to pick up their medigun in time", is ample to win a round.

It's kinda cool for comebacks, but if you're on the receiving end it's a nightmare.

I'm going to quote some of my post on ozfort about this (aporia pasted the link before, but meh):

One map where this is a particular pain in the ass is viaduct. We all know that viaduct is all about time; if they have uber, you have a high % and push in, they pop, kill you all and take your medigun, it just gives them another minimum ~20 seconds (spawns, getting to mid, popping their uber) that they have the point.

You are already punished pretty heavily for dropping uber; this mechanic just shits on you even more so, and as a result you can be popping uber in less favourable positions/situations just because you don't want to drop and give it to the other team.

TL;DR I think just in general it wrongly encourages teams to make rash decisions and can cause you to take really unfavourable fights in hopes of not losing more than you already have/potentially will.

There are a lot more settings than those 3 things. Could you screenshot all of your settings so I can try to reproduce the issue with one of my PCs? Wouldn't hurt to have a pic of your dxdiag as well.
KaiThePhauxThank you for this! I'm gonna spread this playlist around for sure.Thanks. I'll hopefully add more to this playlist soon. I've been super busy over the past few months, though.

I'll do so when I get home today
