Figured I would make a post for people to say what they did and didn't like about the VTV's coverage of i49.
Bad Things:
*The bird on the hp. Serves no purpose and distracts.
*The HUD having no/little indication of low hp. Blinking etc...
*Every single map there was the thing for 3 maps even though it was just one every time.
*No picture for Sal at first/not changing the names and stuff for different casts.
*Sometimes there was silence and sometimes there was music.
*The splitscreen was good but it could have been used better to show both demos roll outs.
*Not using AdvSpec at first.
*Randomly using the dmg/kill thing
*Barely letting Sal talk while Scully talked at 1939374842 words a minute.
*The Dota guy
*Never showing other ongoing games but rather just having pauses/barely talking about them.
*Never showing a table of standings. Comp.tf had one as did the multiplay site.
*Not mentioning the lower groups at all
The good things:
*Variety in casters
*The dmg/kills thing and using that to talk about the flow of the game.
*Splitscreen
*Staying (mostly) live for 7ish hours
Anyway I am sure that I missed things on both the good and bad but overall I was very impressed with the cast and am looking forward for the rest of i49.

I thought the cast was very good. Most things you listed were just minor things that really don't matter.

I really enjoyed the casts, few technical difficulties and really coverage of the games. You're nitpicking lame crap.

The alerts were pretty much entirely useless, liked everything else though. Kinda wish the stats and scoreboard checking didn't come up/get checked during fire fights.

I agree with these. With an event like this, mentioning of the games that aren't being casted and even a live ticker with the results would be a neat thing to have. Football has it, we can have it too.
Also, that would be a better use for alerts than "hi".

I don't like the scoreboard on the top right, it covers the killfeed.

If you're going to use the whole alerts thing, use it for something actually useful, or only use it when there's not an actual game going on otherwise it's just distracting and annoying. I also personally didn't like the whole splitscreen thing, it can make things hard to follow sometimes and if you aren't watching in full screen it makes things too small.

Yep, I know. I loved the casts and the games but there were things that could be different next time. This is to help them get some feedback.

Aside from not showing tables/brackets, basically everything you said there is pretty minor.

Beta's mic was hellishly distorted for the bit I watched. I will never understand how this slips past broadcasters so often/for so long. So much effort put into video production, and the audio ends up sort of ignored.

I'm going to go against the grain and say that getting the dota guy in was fine. The game was unimportant. It was HRG blowing someone else out of the water, and there was no doubt as to who would win. It didn't last very long and made for an entertaining change to what've otherwise been an unentertaining roll.

Cloudmaker2I don't like the scoreboard on the top right, it covers the killfeed.
It doesn't, our kilfeed is just a bit lower, so you're not missing anything.

Poor Lange already has 10 scenes to hotkey, if we'd have scenes for the smaller scoreboard he'd have about 10 more, so we're just going with this for now.

We're using dropbox to update the overlays on the fly, but the internet was so bad it failed to sync a few times :(
Merchant*Sometimes there was silence and sometimes there was music.
Internet too slow at times to stream music, we have some local files now that we can use, but really we need some more download speed at i49.
Merchant*The splitscreen was good but it could have been used better to show both demos roll outs.
Yeah! The second screen is one of the casters though, so we need to better coordinate so we have a proper split-screen rollout with both demos.
Merchant*Not using AdvSpec at first.
Game was accidently in DX81 mode, luckily Bluee is on-site and fixed it :)
Merchant*Randomly using the dmg/kill thing
We want it to be: "Last round stats" when the round ends, "Current round stats" after big fights or when there's slower moments in the match. We'll get that to work
Merchant*Barely letting Sal talk while Scully talked at 1939374842 words a minute.
Sal was very tired and had sore throat, we're hoping he feels better tomorrow.
Merchant*Never showing other ongoing games but rather just having pauses/barely talking about them.
We could try to hop into another game still going, but having a bit of downtime allows us to set stuff up for the next match, make splashes, prepare interviews...so we might not be able to do that.
Merchant*Never showing a table of standings. Comp.tf had one as did the multiplay site.
Must fix that.
Merchant*Not mentioning the lower groups at all
Indeed.

Indeed it was, we checked the levels beforehand with Skully, assuming he's the loudest of us all, but Beta just blew him away really.
We got better mic levels on later matches, we might do some final tweak tomorrow.

I liked making lame alerts :( We're going to use a little less of the split screen, or try to find the right moments to use it. Demo rollouts, medics building uber during 'stalemates', that's pretty much it in my opinion.

alerts were pointless and distracting (nitpicking, but they were really fucking dumb)
other than that I was very pleased with the production quality

Bedtime now, got an early day tomorrow again. Thanks for the constructive criticism and nice words, we'll try to keep it up and improve on as many of the things you're mentioning in this thread, thanks!
Noone mentioned the audio-desync on the interviews yet...that was the one bothering me the most :D
edit: the rebroadcast just crashed and we won't be able to fix it, you can watch the Twitch VODs instead: http://www.twitch.tv/vanillatv/profile/pastBroadcasts

I don't know if it's possible on short notice and with how my understanding of the schedule tomorrow works but it would have been awesome to fill dead time without casters by showing a match and having the Mumble comms on hand instead. I know from a previous game that having the game being played and showing one team's POV while having their Mumble comms helped fill the time, keep the audience entertained, and allow people to gain insight on how high level teams play.

probably because there's a euro sheepy who's a fucking lan dodging 40 year old peadophile hacker who they're more used to seeing play and they just mix up the names a bit
Also I think this is the best TF2 production I've seen, and some of the best TF2 content I've ever watched too, your stuff is sick VTV, really really well played.

The only issue that stood out was the slightly un-sync'd audio, besides that great work VTV!

RussianGuyovich, your rampant anti-american slander is getting a little long in the tooth.
I see it in Twitch Chat, ETF2L Forums and now here.
What is the REAL problem? Let's talk it out.

I liked the split screen, but I think it should be kept to pick classes. So if someone goes sniper, turn on the split screen and leave one on the sniper.
When there are no pick classes and it still shows split screen it's just confusing, imo.
