war's rant seems to be same recycled diatribe people have been spouting for quite some time. my counterpoint is: if you like the game, you should continue to play. however, if you're expecting that tf2 will blow up and weapons/classes will be properly balanced and money will be funneled into the competitive scene and viewership will skyrocket, you are most likely in for a bad time.

matchmaking could have been the first door into the aforementioned great things, but it was shipped haphazardly (after 5 months of beta) and without a knob. i don't understand why people keep banging their heads against this very same door. it would seem that no one cares to answer.

valve doesn't give a single fuck about the community, hasn't this been seen many times enough?

tf2 is just a fountain of money for them

Just because all these are things we know and just because it's old news, doesn't change how bad that this is the way things are.

Man, it really sucks seeing so many before-and-after opinions of TF2 from so many veterans and big names in the scene. So many old videos of people enjoying the game, feeling at least a hint of optimism for its future (during that streak of valve being more vocal about comp support), people who would defend the game with their life over competitiors, but fast forward to post-mym and valve really fucked the bucket hard. I've yet to see anybody think valve knows what they're doing on this, and even the optimistic people fully admit that "Valve DOES want tf2 to succeed! They're just refusing to do any logical steps to fixing it!" I don't understand why it's so difficult for them. I want to hang out for them, but every week that passes just further shows how inept they really are about it

the sad part is that for them it doesn't matter, they will earn their money and even if competitive tf2 will grow, the growth in income will be pretty small and insignificant. it's a shame really,
watching war's stream it genuinly looked like he was depressed and almost tearing up.
not a good year for tf2.

my general thought about the whole thing was how OW was coming out and Valve, to me, were making efforts to get their game up to modern standard so they don't possibly lose a player base. but from a company that has been around for years, one that has 2 other games with functioning MM systems and we get the shit show we have now.

imo i never felt like money would solve or really fully help competitive tf2. but just a somewhat "hey guys, if you want some more serious gameplay, try comp over x website" kinda deal.

even though that never happened i thought comp tf2 being added would help people explore the format and competitive game a bit more.

what has resulted is an experience which is quite shit compared to other games these days and to me will actually put people off competitive tf2 because of the poor experience they might have. Not only that but you in theory actually have to fucking pay to play matchmaking!!!

It's probably my own fault for thinking like this, as mentioned in said "rant" I have a lot of emotional investment in this game and I'm sure there's many others around similar to me. Not only that but many people at tftv have put themselves in a lot of debt just putting on a show. When you have such a passion for e-sports and competitive gaming seeing talent and opportunities go to waste is somewhat heartbreaking.

I continued watching him stream casual, and started thinking, what other game do you know that over half of the player base doesn't know how to play it.
I played a lot of f2p fps games before I started playing tf2, obviously there were a lot of bad players, but they generally understood the game modes and what they should be doing, even if their execution was poor.
in war's stream 3-5 players were afk in spawn the whole time, and most of his team couldn't get out of spawn and didn't know how to play their class.
in what game is the casual experience anything close to tf2?

We need to realize valve does not care, if they do its very minimal, i first played this game when came out on xbox 2010-2011ish, then i quit playing and found steam, and right before the MVM update i started playing tf2 again, and it rekindled my love for it. And i love this game from the bottom of my heart, and it literally breaks my heart to see such a passionate competitive community doing everything they can to keep this game alive competitively(and the people at TF.TV as well). The worst thing is not the updates they do, or break items and such, its that they don't listen to people, or don't care too that are reaching out to valve in everyway possible saying "hey this is what we think needs to be fixed, valve can you look into it". Instead valve just does a 180 and does something completely breaks something/change something else.

And as a player that has put 5,000+ hrs into this game, and watch top invite players leave, cause they have tried to play this game for as long as they could without success money wise. Its honestly the better choice to move to OW if your a top player because you can make money at it and get lots of exposure as a player, and it has developers that care about their game.

After watching War's Rant video i agreed with him on just bout every thing he brought up, and after i watch it i just felt really sad on the inside, and made me realize unless valve kicks into high gear and actually shows they care for such a small community, maybe there is a future. But after this next I58 i really do think this game could die,or a lot people will leave cause why play a game that is buggy, devs dont care, and a 9 year old game that has a competitive scene so small, when you can switch to OW that takes less skill to get to the top, and actually make some money while doing it.

Sorry for long post i could have said alot more, i really want tf2 comp scence to live and flourish just like any player, but after seeing the Meet your Match update i can't help but to feel sad inside, cause valve just does what they want regardless of the comp community.

Anyways i love this game and this community, and i just pray it doesn't die.

frenzyx you can switch to OW that takes less skill to get to the top, and actually make some money while doing it.

that's just flat out wrong, it's much easier to get into prem in tf2 than it is to become an overwatch pro.
if you watch the overwatch pro players that came from tf2 the vast majority of them play overwatch a lot to improve their mechanics, good examples are the french players that played overwatch since closed beta non stop everyday for hours, tviq, shadowburn, dummy and seagull all play overwatch more regularly than they used to play in tf2 to make sure they get into the pro scene,if it's much easier and also will earn you money, why aren't more people are at do that?

the most infuriating part about all this is that while valve doesn't listen a whole lot to the community, the people they do listen to are sub-70 r/tf2 redditors with hours on tf2 matching their IQ

i don't know if its wrong or right, its just my opinion bout OW and TF2, i feel like its easier to get in to OW and make some sort of profit, then TF2 cause every season i play in ESEA im not going in and saying im going to make money at this game, i am actually losing money. I play this game because i love it. I just think its easier to get your foot in door in OW.

I've pretty much convinced my shit that the only reason this is happening is because the TF Team is shit.
Like literally shit game developers, most of the people that were on the initial TF Team have left and replaced by some dudes who are only pushing updates just so that they have to pretend they work when they go to their office every day.

I'm quite sure that if Valve (not TF Team) wanted, they could recruit a team of good, passionate developers and a good news announcer who follows the competitive scene and the forums.
