So I acquired this monitor from my father for free from the company he works out. It had a few dead pixels in the middle but i just massaged them out everytime they popped up so I thought nothing of it.
Fast forward 2 days ago, a small black corner started to develop and I thought nothing of it because I assumed it was just a clump of dead pixels and it didn't really bother me. I left my PC and turn my monitor off and came back an hour later and when i turned it back on it was gone. Then within a few minutes, the black corner came back. Thinking I was insane I left it alone. The black corner got bigger and bigger and I started to worry. Fast forward to today. I was watching a yt videos and the there was a hissing noise. Between videos assuming it was my speakers i thought nothing of it. Fast forward 20 minutes ago, I was cleaning my desk behind my monitor and I realized my monitor was hissing from the corner and it also has a smell to it. A burning sort of smell. So I turn my monitor off and unplugged it.
TL:DR
Monitor has a black corner with a smell and hissing noise
Is my monitor now garbage or is there way to fix it?

sounds like youve got a cat trapped in your monitor.
try hitting it really hard with a hammer or throwing it into a bathtub

Hmm, I'm no expert when it comes to this kind of stuff, but your best bet would probably be to find some way to take it apart. I mean worse case scenario you break it more right? lol
Then I'd start looking for the source of your burning - it could just be that some component is getting really hot and touching a bunch of dust or some other object - paper scraps or hell I've even found saw dust inside of a computer before so it could be anything.
It could also be that some wiring is now exposed or some electrical component is overheating and dying.

me_irl has gone off the deep end.
Anyway a burning smell usually points to something burning.
Apart from insects or hair from various pets this could also be a defect. Either way you'll have to open it to find out.
Contact someone who knows what a screwdriver is and how to use it. Or just do it yourself.

It's not the burning smell that concerns me, its the fact there the corner of the screen is going black and yellowish which indicates to me that something is wrong with the panel or a component it burnt out, and the smell, smells more electronic if that makes any sense. I will open it up and post a verdict later today.
Guess I will probably have to deal with 60 hz for a while

it would be nice to do that. If only I had the cash to spend...

I'm not sure if you got your priorities right. If there was a burning smell and I didn't know where it was coming from I'd be hella concerned.
