medic is unfun because of the other players on ur team, its pretty fun if ure playing with people that know how to play.
forgive me sir for i am but a simple soldier main, i know not what i say.
jetzBy having 5/6 players be directly combat and aim-oriented you're going to attract the kind of players who aren't necessarily interested in the gameplay medic has to offer
yeah, overwatch has a much bigger need for support/tank players than tf2, but offers enough variety to attract people who like that stuff from the get-go. the gameplay is also, uhh, forgiving enough to allow people to have fun on support classes even in casual.
also, support players in overwatch have the option to easily queue for combat roles if they feel like it. even people who enjoy playing medic will tend to avoid pugs when they know theres a 99% chance they end up playing med every time

mustardoverlordfrom my pov it's not that medic is boring, it's just how dependent you are on your teammates for basic awareness/dm
there are few things worse than when you know your heal target is doing something absolutely stupid but you have no choice but to follow them even if you know it's going to go poorly
I don't see how you fix that as long as it's the healer class
you could improve the basic awareness thing if you could see your teammates thru walls ala quake live, and/or have some kind of visual tool to ping where enemies are and whatnot like league of legends pings, but you could argue that this would simplify the game.
But similar quality-of-life shit has been done for example in SC2 where the game prints how many workers you have mining at a base, or tooltips recapitulating your control groups and players did not mind too much.

The medigun is a boring weapon and imo the biggest problem with medic. It is a non-interactive weapon for the user while simultaneously requiring like 90% usage time. Ppl who say that medic is fun bc of the brain/movement/heal-priority aspects of play are valid, but those things can still exist with a version of medic that has a more engaging toolkit.
In my experience this lack of engagement makes it hard to stay focused on med, and the parts of med that I enjoy (arrows and surfing/dodging) only make the class playable in moderation for me in non-ultiduo formats.

^i agree with this. Making the medigun more interactive is really tricky though because the nice thing about how ez the medigun is to use is that it lets you look around freely for bombers and flankers. It would be cool if medics could increasetheir heal rate by keeping the beam as straight as possible, but i could see it being really frustrating when you should be keeping your head on a swivel but theres a 1v1 in front of you and you need to give your teammate the edge.
the crossbow does a pretty good job at making you feel like your heals are influenced by your skill, but its really annoying to drop uber because someone asked for a bow. I wish you could pop uber no matter what weapon youre on. they should also make it so that if you kritz all of your med weapons are kritzed too. that would be fukn epic lmao
