a wee bit confused about joining a team

i have played a bit of tf2 center and it seems pretty fun, but people recommend i join an hl team. i am a begginer eu spy. how do i go about it, i have browsed the etf2l "open" section (as it is the lowest one i believe) for eu teams that need a spy and submitted a comment on some of them. is that all i need to do? and how do i play my first match with any team?
can anyone here who actively plays hl and is part of a team detail their first experience?

you'll need a team to add you to their roster, usually they link you to the team page and give you a password. also, you need to be on the main/starting lineup because some teams may recruit you as a substitute instead of a main, so make sure you're actually a main roster player

also the etf2l season has started, you might want to look on the lfp thread and instead of commenting, add the people who make the lfp posts and ask them as you'll more likely get a reply back that way

I am unfamiliar with how the ETF2L runs HL, but it looks like there is currently a season of HL running (and is nearly over), so I doubt a lot of teams are looking for players right now. Once the season is over and silly season starts, you should be able to find some teams to tryout for and start scrimming with. Also, looking at the website, you may want to create an LFT post in addition to commenting on LFPs so that more teams can find you.

I'm also unfamiliar with how EU runs HL scrims, but on this side of the pond HL scrims run only on the weekends, and usually run two scrims a night. Once you get some tryouts lined up, you'll probably play with a potential team either all night or for one scrim to find out if 1.) you like the team and 2.) the team likes you. Once you're on a team, you'll probably continue scrimming through the offseason for however long it runs to practice & improve with your team. Then once the season proper starts your team leader should take care of getting matches scheduled and all the other stuff that comes with playing in a league. Then all you have to do is show up to the server & VC like any other scrim night and play your official.
