For the past two months, I have submitted information to ETF2L, UGC, and ESEA, and have had no luck getting into competitive Team Fortress 2. I have asked many current and former competitive players on how to get into comp tf2, and they just say to put your name out there. I have tried and struggled. I made a team on UGC and was denied. I come here for advice on how to get into comp tf2, and I hope you can help me out.

Not sure how much you try to participate in pugs/mixes, but trying to make friends with people around your skill level will help a lot. If you find some players that you like playing with, you can start a team with them. "getting your name out there" really means just having people recognize you from somewhere, usually being a regular around the community by doing pugs/mixes or posting on TFTV will start to get you noticed.
Not sure how much you try to participate in pugs/mixes, but trying to make friends with people around your skill level will help a lot. If you find some players that you like playing with, you can start a team with them. Thanks. I've been playing some lobbies lately to try and ramp up the skill level I'm playing against. Like I said, I had a group of some pretty decent players who were fun to play with and we put a team out on UGC, but we still haven't heard back from them.

I'm not sure how UGC works nowadays, but I'm fairly certain you don't have to "apply" for anything; what exactly do you mean you put a team out on UGC?

You should wait until the details for the next season of UGC are announced. The current season is just finishing up. Just start trying out some pugs. If you're dedicated and friendly, you'll get to know some people and you'll find a team eventually.

Hey synchro. There is a "Create Team" section on the sidebars of the website. I asked a couple of friends on Steam and they were down for it and I soon picked up a few more who were willing. You just had to give your team name, steam profile, steam group, and a couple of other things. Then, you would have to wait for email confirmation, which I unfortunately did not receive.

However, I believe the current season is still underway (highlander is, anyway), so you'd have to wait for it to end before you and your team could play. Just keep your skills sharp by playing PUGs and, more importantly (if you can), scrimming with your team.

Thanks, I should probably contact a UGC administrator. However, I believe some teams already got accepted because a saw a "New Teams" list for the North American highlander division, so I got worried. I'll try to figure out how to do those pugs and mixes, I visited atf2.org and it was kind of confusing.

when you're first getting into comp you have to be seriously dedicated if you really wanna make a dent
dm,mge,pugs,scrims and ringing for different teams etc
pugs are the best way to get yourself out there, a lot of people aren't into pugs because sometimes they can be pretty stacked and a total shite fest which sucks BUT.........you're still playing with different people all the time and getting yourself out there. plus you can jump between pug.na and tf2mix. both channels are extremely active so you'll always have a chance to play. since you're new some other players might give you shit when you make mistakes but don't let it discourage you, if you need any help with anything else just add me.

1) get really good at mge
2) play lots of soap dm
3) play lots of pugs
Then, try out for teams with the people from the pugs; they'll know your playstyle from pugging with you.
