How do I make the jump from Mid-Steel to Silver?

Hi! I'm Atlas, and I'm currently maining as Pyro in 9v9. What I'd like to figure out is when to gauge when I'm skilled enough to make the jump to Silver, and how big that jump is.

Find a silver team that needs a pyro and try out. If you're pleasant to play with and have decent comms, you'll probably be picked up without any difficulty.

Try out for a Silver team? If you make it, you're either good enough to be in a Silver team, or not good enough to be a Silver team, but you'll become Silver-level faster if you play in Silver rather than wait around in Steel.
