After skipping 4 generations of Pokémon™ games, I've returned back to where I started; back to the Sinnoh region, in the upcoming newest remakes Pokémon™ Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon™ Shining Pearl.
With nostalgia of playing the original games on an r4 coming back to me, I have now decided to play more "seriously" this time.
Instead of just having a team of my starter Pokémon, evolved into a 1-hit K.O. machine, surrounded by HM slaves, I want to look into competitive Pokémon; learn fundementals on good EV spread, team compositions, movesets, etc.
Anyone out there that can guide me, or even just to trade/fight Pokémon with when wi-fi trades/battles come out
Also, if you're planning to play the newest remakes, what are your goals for them?

hey guys i tried to build a team on a teambuilding website for BDSP OU but i think it was bugged and i couldnt select Lando-T for some reason? might a glitch idk but it would really complement my team really well, looking forward to using it again!

i'd be willing to teach you or anyone else the basics of competitive pokemon. it wouldn't necessary translate into in-game that much since they're not really designed for min/maxing that much, but this knowledge i've got rattling around in my head could be good for something. azazel#6897

ya the whole ev spread and maximising shit is overkill for in-game playthrough, end of da day its still a kids game. if u wna create artificial challenge try dump ur starter / dont use items in battle (or at all) / turn off the setting that tells u what theyre gna switch in. only then would u maybe need to start considering dat stuff. otherwise u can just abuse potions and stat boosting items while spamming whatever op move u have access to.

they renamed lando in these games for some reason try looking up "gliscor"

I would try use an original team idea like: Infernape, Luxray, Staraptor, Garchomp, Floatzel and Lucario.

Pokemon diamond was the first pokemon game i took a little more seriously than pokemon blue, but this was at a time i was in elementary school. Keep in mind i got 7 badges in diamond and 4 in blue. Diamond remake = my childroom reborn

there is a very short list of improvements the remakes did
-revamped underground
-kept the new exp system
-kept the new learnsets
-HMs no longer required to be learned
-pretty good battle animations
everything else about the games is so lazy. there are multiple game breaking bugs discovered on day 1, route encounters and trainer pokemon + movesets are basically the same, same weird map flow that diamond and pearl had instead of the gyms being in order like in platinum. level curve isn't accounting for the new exp system imo. somehow fire types still hella limited - only options are chimchar, houndoom, and ponyta. i haven't passed valor lakefront yet so this is all that i have to say for now.

in addition to what spu said my main issues are
1) I don't like the chibi 3d artstyle at all though this is subjective
2) compared to the gen 1 gen 2 and gen 3 remakes they really didn't add a lot of new content at all
3) they didn't even do the cheat that other remakes have done and add content from the 3rd game- a lot of good stuff from platinum is not in here
the gen 4 games are pretty classic so if it's your first time it still has that going for it but I wanted more for a remake!

from a gen 4 baby i would like to say:
-modern exp share with original D/P's level curve lmao how do you fuck up that badly
-360 movement in a tile-based map lmao
--- switching to d-pad when this matters doesnt even lock you to the grid, so you're gonna be offset from wherever ur trying to go regardless which all adds up to the worst feeling pokemon game of all time
-i disagree with mustard i really like the chibi overworld/usual battle style sprites and think its charming and cute in a vacuum. i just think it lacks polish and looks bad as a result
-platinum dex is exclusive to the player in the underground (LITERALLY WHY)
-affection is the dumbest mechanic of all time
+elite four has items and EVs/IVs n stuff thats pretty swag
+jupiter is a baddie
all in all the child inside of me that grew up with gen 4 is very disappointed
