PSA: animated steam avatars using cpu

open your friendlist, hit the cog in the top right, make sure this option is disabled:

when turned on, the animated avatars/borders cause steam to suck up a ton of your cpu power. for me with a small friends list of 25 people, having this turned on makes steam use a constant 5-7% extra cpu. a few people i've talked to said this made no difference, but the vast majority of people i've spoken to did have extra cpu being taken up.

when i turn off steam overlay i get about 20 fps boost
also when i just close the steam friends and chat windows on my desktop i also get about 20 fps boost

This kinda worked (didn't see a huge increase in my fps but depends on the PC), to be honest If anyone wants to suck every single fps possible out of steam then they should use steam -nobrowser, this thing eats more resources than It should, its crazy

FYI

-no-browser

is being deprecated. I think the new solution on Windows is just to delete the webhelper executable and use

-noverifyfiles
