(ETF2L) The offseason is 4 months long. Thoughts?

Main season is projected to start 6th of October.

Two seven week seasons a year is not enough I feel, but with the league dying and the small amount of staff I'm really not surprised.

It's not like the league just took a break, there's nations cup, hl and an ultiduo cup.
I don't agree with a 4 month offseason but people keep crying whenever anything overlaps with 6s (like hl or nations cup).
So it's hard to please everyone and not have extremely long offseasons.

supposedly there would be 6s cups (potentially laster longer amounts of time than just 2 days like in the past) replacing the season but no announcement as of yet.
think having a shitty summer season is better than what we have now tho

In our last discussion with the admins, I was one of the strongest advocates for not having a summer season going forward. I still believe this is the best approach, since summer seasons tend to be shit due to alot of players going on holidays and there not being a major Lan like Insomnia anymore. I, however also thought that there would be at least 1-2 6s cups organized in cooperation with EssentialsTF or other orgs. For example (as Yak already pointed out), a 1-2 week long lan qualifier cup would've been great. Even a paid entry cup could work fine imo, if there are funds missing on the org side.

Overall, I believe the EU comp scene would benefit from having just two main seasons (spring and autumn) while focusing more on cups during the summer. However, it's crucial for the admins and orgs to really try and have direct and consistent communication to make this happen...

This is definitely something that we can look at running, something akin to the DreamHack Community Clash tournaments we ran a little while ago. If there is enough interest I can look at getting this arranged and set up, but before that I would like to ask a couple of questions.

1. Would people be willing to pay for entry into a tournament, to establish a small prize pool and support future ETF events? Or would people prefer a free entry event but little to no prize pool (aka just play for the sake of playing)?

2. Would people be interested in exploring one or two weapon unbans for experimentation - things that could provide useful data for future ETF2L seasons?

3. When would be a reasonable time for this event to run, how much time do people need to set up teams for such an event?

Getting answers to the above will make it easier to get this arranged, but any and all comments surrounding this would be useful. Given that there are a number of tournaments going on in Europe around this time (PASS Time/Nations Cup) we want to avoid clashing with anything which could lead into less interest for the tournament. Eager to hear from you all here.

put up a poll with these questions, put it on etf2l front page and advertise the shit out of it

I'm not sure if I'm still the biggest fan of 2 day events if theres only gonna be 2 cups in 4 months, maybe have cups be more spread out or have them more often?
Also I think the issue with cups is that I'm not sure how attractive they are to newer players, maybe it'd need a b-tournament or smth like that.

Hi. I want to run some 6s cups myself since etf2l won't (not flaming them, just wouldn't get in their way otherwise - same for essentials if they announce something). Might as well use this thread to see if there is real interest, as my knowledge is limited only to what people said before in discord and talking to 1 guy. There would be no prize pool, as i am poor, and there would be no differences to the current etf2l ruleset. Simply a weekend or week 6s cup. If anyone with previous organizing experience would like to help don't be afraid to contact me. I have previous experience founding and running a tf2 league so this is not some meme thing.
Also streamed games yes, they will be streamed and casted as much as possible

This is our first year trying out without a summer season. We get both sides of the coin and pretty much had the same reasoning as multiple players here mentioned. The amount of offseason is indeed quite large but it was the only thing that fit around the other competitions we run as well. We will look into reducing the amount of offseason time going forward.

VoxiI, however also thought that there would be at least 1-2 6s cups organized in cooperation with EssentialsTF or other orgs.

We did look into this originally, but couldn't really fit anything that's more than a weekend cup in due to insomnia and the rest of our own schedule. insomnia falling through did open a gap, but it did allow us to shift the schedule a bit for the dortmund LAN.

That being said, if essentials and/or other alternatives want to host something we can always look in what ways we can support that (given it doesn't clash with our events).
